Religion might be humanity's greatest coping mechanism.
Not because people are weak, but because existence itself is ridiculous.
You're a self-aware organism floating through space on a rock, capable of love, pain, dreams, anxiety, and the ability to wonder why any of this exists in the first place.
That's a lot harder to process than:
"God made us."
Once a higher power enters the picture, every impossible question gets a convenient answer. Why are we here? God. What happens after death? God. Why does suffering exist? God has a plan.
Religion doesn't solve the mystery of existence. It just moves the mystery one step back and tells people not to question it further.
