I'd say it depends! If you're just starting out, don't overcomplicate things.

I'd recommend starting with:

  1. An announcements channel where you can share upcoming events and important updates.
  2. A YouTube updates channel where people can get notified whenever you upload a new video.
  3. A general chat channel where everyone can hang out and talk.
  4. An optional introductions forum where new members can introduce themselves.

The first two channels should be read-only, meaning only admins can post, but everyone can see the updates.

I also recommend having an introductions forum because forums work differently from regular channels. Some people feel more comfortable making their first post in a forum, while others prefer jumping straight into a chat channel. Giving them both options can help!

And that's honestly enough to get started. You don't need to worry too much about adding more channels until your community grows.

For moderation, Discord's built-in AutoMod should be enough in the beginning. As your server gets bigger, you can look into additional tools like Sapphire Bot or our AI-powered moderation tool.
