CommunityOne Builders Help: Growth Update

olivelizard-57 OP

It has been 3 years I made my Discord server which is a social community I do not know why I chose the path of no promotion giveaways or ping for ping partnerships I did not allow dating in my server I always chose organic and real members who feel included in a family not just a member of a server But just imagine one thousand members in three years I feel like I am just wasting time or what I thought I would do some online events sell tickets or memberships and start hosting real life events but that part is still too far I recently discontinued using Disboard because there is no point in being there I only had a handful of members every month who do not care about the community at all and I knew I got members from ChatGPT Google and other social platforms Once I made my own web page like a top Indian Discord server listing and I kept my own server on top and this is what other communities do to grow even a company like DigitalOcean I got tons of members every day I felt shameful about fooling people I thought it is better that other platforms call us top and rank us higher and we get better reviews to attract quality members And this new path destroyed me I do not have new member joins anymore We have been stuck on the same number for two months The goal for this year was five thousand members and we did not even hit two thousand According to the growth rate we should have hit two thousand already I feel so tired and like a failure I will not give up but it is painful After all this I am still stupid I am going to remove other self promotional content from server listings soon too

happybeacon-37

huh first, i think u should be a bit kinder to yourself. after all, it is not easy to get to 1000, becauseyou are already better than 90% of the server, it's great to have a goal, but the important thing is to enjoy the journey, and if u gonna get there later, that's okay

happybeacon-37

second, do you have any good ideas on the flow of the server

happybeacon-37

for exampl,e how many are coming in vs leaving

happybeacon-37

third, take this as an opperutnity, u can now look at yuor server closely and then decide what to do, u can decide to change the metric, u can decide to change the marketing or anything in between

olivelizard-57 OP

Growth is the best motivator, and I hope I get back on track soon.

Thank you so much for your kind words they genuinely made me feel better.
I think I felt that way because these days I see so many new servers reaching 1,000+ members through scammy giveaways, dating chaos, and nonstop promotion all at once.
But I truly love the journey of staying genuine, building something pure, and creating a real family.

olivelizard-57 OP

Yeah, Im trying to improve my marketing strategy. Iโ€™ve done everything I could on my own, working only from my phone

happybeacon-37

btw, whats ur server id again, i can take a look

olivelizard-57 OP

Sure, 1062427177326497863

happybeacon-37

so people are chatting 35 message per day per person, which is like a lot a lot!

happybeacon-37

have u thought about hosting som events where your members have to make groups (some sort of competition)

happybeacon-37

so that they have natural incentives to bring their friends

olivelizard-57 OP

Yup we got 60k msg per month
We once had crossed 150k msg/month miletstone too

happybeacon-37

i am sure that they are very willing to bring their friends there

happybeacon-37

the thing about engagement is that yoou should think about engagement as "conversion", like if there are things that you want community member to help out, they are gonna be more than willing to

olivelizard-57 OP

Pixel pursuit, it was very successfull
event had around 80 photography submission counting from first of this event

olivelizard-57 OP

And then we had She isn't Alone global writing contest
Longest running event of 6 months and no one participated

happybeacon-37

then jist do what works? which is pixel pursuit?

olivelizard-57 OP

We had a lot of fun events like
Knight's gambit for chess
The rose station for writing again
Nature's canva
Raghi design contest

happybeacon-37

also another thing I wonder if you can get people to make youtube shorts for you talking abotut the best indian social discord

happybeacon-37

what prize do u give out

olivelizard-57 OP

Pixel pursuit was casual photography contest
I asked everyone to dump gallery and it gone really insane i never imagined those skilled unreal photography

olivelizard-57 OP

Thats the problem
I'm still teen i can't earn in india legally
I dont have pocket money
The only reward i can give is rank nothing else
I can't find sponsors for events

So yea..

olivelizard-57 OP

We do parliament session at every saturday midnight
I'm planning with my team to live stream that stage session on yt

I don't have pc or laptop so i can't do streams myself im dependent on them

I tried youtube shorts and that didn't work
Will create one more content myself i think
Im feeling burnout honestly

happybeacon-37

have u trid to go out and find a sponsor

olivelizard-57 OP

I don't know where to find it
Sponsor based events on discord is very new concept never saw anyone doing this
Even if i do find a sponsor and what if no one participate in event
I'm trying to find platform where can i find sponsors

olivelizard-57 OP

Umm..

happybeacon-37

i see.. how many mods do u have

olivelizard-57 OP

1 admin 2 manager 2 mods 3 owner
Everyone is active at moderation currently

happybeacon-37

huh i think one of th thing that u should think about is to recruit for members to help you out

happybeacon-37

so for example, if you are not good at youtube shorts, mayb someone in your community can be great at it and they will teach you

olivelizard-57 OP

How about long content and streams instead
We already started working on it

happybeacon-37

i dont know, i know people get consistent new viewers from twitch, but its really hard work

happybeacon-37

and also I think twitch is not great with visibitliies, so u got to make clips and then put them on youtube for visibilitis

olivelizard-57 OP

It requires clickbait content

By the way i was working on something today

olivelizard-57 OP

Like fixing some old webhook content from server with new data

olivelizard-57 OP

And record it for star partnership application

olivelizard-57 OP

I got server base for the community but its hard to put everything on single mobile screen recording

happybeacon-37

ah have u talked to about the communityone star partnership program?

olivelizard-57 OP

I only remember we had talked about this on Office Hour and then i checked web page of it

happybeacon-37

the way i see it, and i truly truly mean it, engagement is key at the end of the day, we will work on more ways to help you monetize, but I can tell you that whwn we pitch to advertisor, we wont talk about how big a server is, message per member will be our KPI for engagement

happybeacon-37

good things come slowly

happybeacon-37

and having solid fundamental allows you to scale in the future

happybeacon-37

btw, do u do the marketing in english or in your local language

olivelizard-57 OP

English

olivelizard-57 OP

Bangwing is english community with hindi majority people for now

olivelizard-57 OP

Worked on that very carefully ๐Ÿฅ

olivelizard-57 OP

And how about these all :
message per member
participants per events
posts per member
voice hour per member

olivelizard-57 OP

To new members its social community for healthy human interaction and activity forums as i always say
Yk i always asks few questions to members at joining

Like their hobbies, what games they play and what are their top singers on spotify

If their hobbies are art writing movie or anything like that we suggest them our related activity forums

If they play minecraft we invite them to our minecraft server

If they listen to music i ask them to give me playlist and lets listen together whenever you are free

And this is how i keep guiding new member in convo and introduce it to the server

I always get lovely sweet response from them
Like a lot
Server is amazing, people are so creative, staff teams are good etc etc

New member always stays at server

The thing is we are lacking visiblity and join rates and i can't find exact cause of it
Its happening when we discontinued disboard but i clearly remember i never had a good member from disboard
