While delegates from the Shia Conference of El-Hujair were in Damascus swearing allegiance to King Faisal, an act the Maronites of Jabal Amel considered threatening, a Shia gang led by Mahmoud Bazzi, which "proceeded from brigandage to confronting France and its Christian friends in the south",[48] attacked Ain Ebel on 5 May 1920, pillaging and killing more than 50 people.[49][50] It appears that the gangs responded to a call for jihad.[51] The people of Ain Ebel defended the town from sunrise to sunset until they ran out of ammunition.[52]
A contemporary Franciscan document chronicling the event states that attackers abandoned themselves in the violence, massacring children in the arms of their parents before killing them, raping young women and then killing them, and burning people who were still alive.[53] The survivors fled south to Haifa until French ships took them back to Tyre where General Gouraud promised the Maronite Patriarch to punish those who had caused the massacres and destruction.[54] The town was completely destroyed, and the damage done to the two churches, school and convent, were evidence of sectarian malice.[47][55] The neighboring villages of Debel and Rmaich were also attacked so after 12 days of plundering and massacres,[56] the French arrived and suppressed all activities in Jabal Amil region.[57]
While awaiting to return to their village, it was reported that a soldier, in the service of the English, offered the villagers to sell their properties to the Zionists because they were not guaranteed a return to Ain Ebel, but they all refused. This was yet another example of how the Christians of the Tyre district were under a lot of pressure to abandon their land and emigrate out of the area.[58] The massacres hardened Maronite opinion in favor of Jabal Amil being part of Greater Lebanon, which borders were cemented at the San Remo conference in 1920.[48]
By 1921, although the village’s homes and churches had been repaired and rebuilt, the massacre had trigger...

do you people honestly think Israel wouldn’t be taking our land for their own if Hezbollah ceased to exist? I preface this with the fact that there are people whom believe there would be zero Leb-Israeli conflicts if Hezbollah never came to be.

This was back in January, and after that, Hezbollah made the biggest remontada in the history of remontadas, non stop rockets, drones, fighters, fought for weeks in Frontline villages, with what ammo? With what guns? I thought the Lebanese army took them?
Shia high ranking Generals are for sure playing a role here.

Long story short, about that "sex/private room".
Days into the beginning of the last war not this one, Lmadrase lfiya lnez7in 7adna fawalet, ba3d kam yom multiple small fights erupt about privacy, then 1 couple started doing sexual stuff (foreplay and kissing) in the open , so the municipality thats taking care of the school decided to let them have it on the roof in a small room, hence the term. "How does this guy know"; One of my close friends is a chorte baladye. Now what you should ask is, kif lwa7ad bi 3ezz l7arb, like literally at the peak of it, elo nafes 3a hek chi, aw byo2af ma3o, thats the question that i want answered , i was so shocked to even hear that they went into a fight over such a thing. Crazy.

Hi all! This is quite random, but a genuine question.
I went on a date with a Lebanese shia guy yesterday (his family is from the South) and he knew I was Christian, but assumed I was either Catholic or Orthodox. When I said I was neither and that I was Maronite, he seemed genuinely confused and didn't know what Maronite was. I even said it in Arabic and he was even more unsure. He's been to Lebanon on numerous occasions btw, not sure if that's important context.
My question is, are Maronites not spoken of in a lot of Shia households? Is it simply a world of Sunnis and Shias?

Hey r/lebanon,
3 months ago I posted here about Sobhiye, the Lebanon newsletter. Quick update.
Bit of context: it started before the war as just a quick morning read. Five news sites/accounts + the family WhatsApp every morning was getting to be a lot. Then the war happened and the whole thing became something else - a bunch of you told me it was the only news source you weren't dreading at 8am, which honestly meant a lot. And now that things in Lebanon are slowly turning the corner - semi-functioning government, ceasefire holding, reconstruction starting in the south, finally - Sobhiye is shifting with it. More of the wins worth talking about, more reporting that holds people accountable, less doom.
New stuff since:
Still free. Still daily. Still 3 minutes with your coffee.
If you tried it 3 months ago and it was rough, would love a second look. And if anything's annoying, tell me - most of what's good in there exists because people in this sub pushed me on it.

Hi everyone. I was born to Lebanese parents but was born and raised in America.
I am planning on getting a script/calligraphy tattoo with a certain style that I often seen done in English, but want to get it in Arabic. I want to get my mom’s name “Manuella,” which I believe is مانويلا.
Attached is the style I am going for. Is there anyone that would feel comfortable creating some Arabic calligraphy in this style that I can give to my tattoo artist?

Press release from Ministry for Foreign Affairs
Sweden increases humanitarian support to Lebanon
Published 20 April 2026
Sweden is announcing an additional humanitarian support package to Lebanon of SEK 70 million. The support is being provided in light of the country’s worsening humanitarian situation due to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. It will contribute to addressing basic needs, protecting the civilian population and creating security for those who have been hardest-hit by the conflict.
“The humanitarian situation in Lebanon is extremely serious. In addition to many dead, wounded and displaced people, we have also seen attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, and medical staff and humanitarian aid workers. This is unacceptable. The Lebanese people deserve peace and security. We are therefore now increasing humanitarian support to bolster the extremely hard-hit civilian population,” says Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa.
“The Government is clear that this support is for Lebanon and its population, who have had to suffer devastating consequences of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The ceasefire that is underway is welcome but fragile, and must also lead to a long-term solution,” says Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard.
Since the conflict broke out on 2 March, more than 1.2 million people have been forced to leave their homes. This corresponds to a fifth of Lebanon’s population. These people now find themselves in over-crowded collective emergency housing, staying with relatives or in make-shift tents in car parks. Schools have largely been forced to function as reception centres for internally displaced persons, which has once again interrupted schooling for children.
“More than one million Lebanese are fleeing from the war. It’s our human obligation to alleviate the suffering of the vulnerable civilian population. Sweden is now sending an additional SEK 70 million to provide shelter, hot f...

I am sharing my full experience with Ishtari.com because it was honestly one of the worst support experiences I have ever had.
I ordered a robot vacuum cleaner and received it on 02/03/2026. I tested it about five times, and at first it worked great. Then, after that, it completely stopped vacuuming. It would still move around, but it was not sucking anything at all. It was basically useless.
I contacted support asking for help, and the response I got was already disappointing. I was told that because more than 3 days had passed, they could not refund it after 3 days. Instead, I was told they could “support” me by taking the product, showing it to their experts, fixing it, and sending it back. I thought about it and said no, because I had already paid around $55, and I was not going to spend more money on what already looked like a trash product. I also did not want to pay the $8 delivery fee just to send a broken item for repair.
After about one day, she called me again. I told her clearly that it was not worth losing more money on a trash product that they sold me, especially if it had to be disassembled and might end up even more damaged. She kept insisting that their experts were very good, that they would fix it, and that they would do a full checkup if anything was wrong. She kept repeating that I only needed to pay the delivery fee. In the end, she convinced me to let them repair it.
The delivery guy came, took it to the repair place, and after a few days it was returned to me in the exact same condition. It was still not fixed. It was still not vacuuming. It was still not sucking anything at all.
I texted support again and told her the issue was still present and still not fixed. It really felt like I had been scammed. She said no, sir, and asked me to record a video. I recorded a video showing exactly that the robot was not sucking anything.
She still was not convinced, so she asked for another video with tissues placed in front of the robot. I did that too. After that, she...

360-ton humanitarian aid shipment sent by Türkiye for Lebanese families displaced by Israeli attacks has arrived in Beirut, carrying 38 containers of relief supplies, including blankets, mattresses, pillows, sleeping bags, tents, food boxes and emergency aid packages.
The shipment, prepared under the leadership of the Sadakatasi Association with contributions from the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, Yetim Foundation, and Yeryuzu Cocuklari Association, docked at the Port of Beirut.
The aid is expected to be delivered shortly to displaced families through Lebanon's Higher Relief Committee.
Aid arrives in Beirut for displaced families
The humanitarian shipment reached the Lebanese capital as families displaced by Israeli attacks continue to face difficult conditions.
The 360-ton cargo includes blankets, beds, pillows, sleeping bags, tents, food parcels and emergency relief packages.
Officials said the supplies would be distributed to displaced families through Lebanon's Higher Relief Committee.
Turkish and Lebanese officials attend reception ceremony
A reception ceremony was held at the Port of Beirut to mark the arrival of the aid.
Among those attending were Türkiye's Ambassador to Beirut Murat Lutem; Samir Haddara, representative of Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri; Administrative Development Minister Fadi Mekki; Public Works and Transport Minister Fayiz Rasmani; lawmaker Bilal Abdullah; Higher Relief Committee Secretary-General Bassam Nabulsi; and other guests.

Its clear to anyone online to see that most westerners have 0 knowledge about islam (some of them dont even know Allah=God)
Lebanons religious makeup provides a unique instance where both of the biggest religions live side by side.
Lebanons tourism potential and location could easily bring in visitors from every part of the earth (if we just got our shit together) and these tourists would be able to see first hand that not only are we more similar than their politicians would have them believe, but peaceful coexistence is possible.
This isn’t even accounting for the shia/sunni split which again is a rarity in the world!
You dont even need to be religious to see how impactful such a mixed religious population could be on a global scale by just existing! If we were just able to get rid of those radical voices that weaponize religion against everyone the society we could have in the future is rarer and more special than all others!
