What does the what emoji mean?

A low-resolution, blurry Sonic the Hedgehog expressing pure, unadulterated confusion.

This emoji features a distorted, low-quality image of Sonic the Hedgehog with a wide-eyed, gaping mouth expression. It is a classic example of 'deep-fried' meme culture where intentional degradation of image quality enhances the comedic effect of the character's reaction. It is widely used in Discord servers to express extreme bewilderment, shock, or a 'what just happened' reaction to a bizarre statement.

When to use it

  • Expressing total confusion at a weird message
  • Reacting to a completely unexpected plot twist
