Kirkuk Governorate Launches New Subreddit

The server now has a new subreddit!

(Sorry for the constant everyone pings, but I've been doing more stuff for the server lately)

Due to how there is a lack of an inclusive kirkuki community anywhere on reddit, I decided to start my own related to this server.

In this subreddit you can contribute and talk about Kirkuk or other topics that are on your mind.

Don't be afraid to post whatever u feel like posting! (Just make sure it follows sub rules <3)

Kirkuk Governorate Pride Month Announcement

Happy pride month!

This month marks the anniversary of the Pro-LGBTQIA+ protests that were caused by police raiding a gay club in the USA.

This month is for everyone fighting oppression, and LGBTQIA+ people are oppressed across the Middle East, including our country, Iraq.

For this celebration, the server pfp has been changed to one of the older proposals (w the progress pride flag and colors!)

Kirkuk is for everyone.

Kirkuk Safety Rules Update

New rules:
- Never mention your specific city (if under 300k people) or ur specific neighbourhood, street, address etc
- Never attempt to hang out with people from this server whom you don't know irl
- Never mention vulnerable parts of your identity to people who you don't know. This includes sexuality, gender identity and even ethnicity, religion or sect in some cases.

These rules are here to prevent people from attempting to ruin your life (or worse) and to protect your privacy.

Iraq is not a safe space for everyone. Even one simple interest you have can make you a target, even if its unrelated to their reasoning. News reports have shown people going undercover on social media to catch vulnerable minorities and report them to the state or militias.

Please stay safe everyone <3

May iraq get freed one day from this corruption and tribal systems :Iraq: 🫶🏼

TRIGGER WARNING: SENSITIVE TOPIC

Honour Killing in Iraq Spurs Community Outcry

Hey so, today I'm gonna talk about a heavy case that happened recently In iraq, its about honor killings. The message will be spoiled because:

TRIGGER WARNING

|| Recently, a 15 year old girl called Kawther Bashar was killed by her paternal uncle and her "fiancé", cousin for not wanting to get married to him and for escaping the house with another guy.

They were about to marry her to her cousin at 15 years old, so she decided to escape the house and her family filed a missing person's report. Many accusations were made against her, such as her having sex with the so called guy but these were all accusations, she was simply a teenager who wanted to live her life. After she was found, she was brutally murdered (see the second testimony) by her paternal uncle and cousin, as mentioned before so they can "Wash away the shame"...

According to a few testimonies:

First Testimony

"The boy had proposed to her, and they [the family] refused. After they [the couple] fled, the boy's family and the public heard that she was engaged to her cousin. At this point, only God knows the truth. But I'm telling you, it’s true, they killed her and held a funeral procession like you saw. In their view, they 'washed their shame' just to show the world."

Second Testimony

"The girl is a relative of ours from the same tribe. They killed her at 5:00 AM. They struck her head with an axe, cut off her hand, and shot her three times in the heart."

Third Testimony

"The one who killed her is her paternal uncle. And her uncle’s son is the one who was her fiancé."

These are testimonies from her relatives and neighbours.

And do you know what they did next? THEY CELEBRATED FUCKING MURDERING HER WITH NO SHAME WHATSOEVER. AND GUESS WHAT? THE GOVERNMENT HAS DONE NOTHING AGAINST THE PREPATORS.

This case is not unique in nature, though. Honour killings are always happening across Iraq, and only a few of them result in arrests. May Kawthar rest in peace 🕊️ ||

We need inclusivity, not exclusivity

Because this server is a community full of vulnerable minorities

With stricter enforcement towards discriminatory and exclusionist beliefs and language

And also, stricter privacy measures

  • demoting anyone with the chief admin role and making it a hierarchical role rather than a gov one
  • The executive of moderators and council of ministers will be removed as a concept
  • removing the name MEMs and COMs
  • reinforcing the moderator hierarchy
  • Removing any ministries or council's relating to anything outside the government area

This includes:

The government system would be separated entirely from the main server

New moderator role hierarchies would be implemented

Entirely

Staff apps are closed

German will be removed from official languages

Celebrate Kirkuk Governorate Heritage

No matter who you are or what people tell you, remember to always be proud of our Governorate and heritage.
Our Governorate has thousands of years of history. We have one of the oldest maps in the world, one of the oldest water systems in the world and even one of the oldest villages in the world.
Our city, Kirkuk, has our castle as its centrepiece. This castle was built by our ancestors who cultivated these lands and settled on these green hills.

And let's not forget the other towns and villages in Kirkuk, Hawija, Dibis, Daquq, Qara injir, Taza, Yayci, Altun Kupri, Shwan etc. They're the cultural hearts of the governorate.

Nothings more beautiful than Kirkuk and the picture below was taken by me in shwan ❤

Please take this simple message to remind yourself just how much hidden beauty this governorate has.

Love yall !

From now you can appeal to be a part of the executive of moderators or the council of ministers at the #『📋staff-application📋』
Just make sure that to be a part of the council of ministers, you also have to join the parliament and choose/create a party or be independent. The Executive of Moderators is rather politically neutral

Very late

Pretty late ik

Eid mubarakk

Oh and let's not forget rhat these people were GASSED.

The baathist did chemical attacks on them. We should never forget this part of history and never repeat it ever again

Remembering Halabja: Mourning and Rights

Today we mourn the Halabja massacre.

This massacre was a part of the bigger Anfal campaign, and due to it we lost many of our people.

Thousands of people were killed and many lost their families, just for being a part of the Kurdish resistance against Baathism.

Today is also the day we mourn all the crimes of the baathist party and its also the One year anniversary of halabjas recognition as a governorate.

Always remember.

Being a kurd is not a crime.
Wanting freedom is not a crime.
All of these are your rights, culturally and legally.

Celebrate International Women's Day 2026

Sorry for the ping but today is a very special day. To all of women.

On 8 March 2026, rally with women and girls around the world to demand equal rights and equal justice to enforce, exercise, and enjoy those rights.

Nowadays, no nation has closed the legal gaps between men and women. Right now, women have only 64 per cent of the legal rights that men hold worldwide. In fundamental areas of life, including work, money, safety, family, property, mobility, business, and retirement – the law systematically disadvantages women.(https://www.un.org/en/observances/womens-day)

Thank you, to all women who fought for our rights and made this day OUR day, so we can spread more awareness about the mistreatment women get globally.

Stay strong and shine bright ladies! Celebrate HER strenght, celebrate HER story! ❤️

Justice for Yanar Mohammed Iraqi Women Defender

Yesterday, we were hit by incredibly disturbing, saddening and unsettling news.

On 2 March 2026, woman human rights defender and feminist Yanar Mohammed was killed in an armed attack at her residence in northern Baghdad.

Yanar Mohammed was a prominent Iraqi woman human rights defender and feminist, and the co-founder and director of the Organisation of Women's Freedom in Iraq (OWFI). Since 2003, she had worked to protect women facing gender-based violence, including domestic abuse, trafficking, and so-called ‘honour killings.’
Under her leadership, OWFI established a network of safe houses across several Iraqi cities, providing protection and support to hundreds of women. Yanar Mohammed led these efforts despite all the ongoing impediments and risks. She was a strong advocate for secularism and women’s equality.
Throughout her activism, Yanar Mohammed faced death threats and, at times, was forced to restrict her movement.

Justice for Yanar Muhammad.
