Building the Best Yard Team: VGC Meta Strategies

Summary

The Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments community is diving deep into competitive team building by exploring the viability of Yard teams. This discussion focuses on optimizing team cores, specifically comparing Sylveon versus Floette, and analyzing defensive spreads to counter threats like Sneasler. It provides essential insights for players looking to move beyond Trick Room and master the current wonky VGC meta.

I want to build the nastiest, most meta, honest to God upsetting Yard team.
Now this is outside of my wheel house but I really just can't keep doing trick room I need a break. Ill take any opinions on this or alternative mons.

daringknight-67

if i remember correctly the consensus was sylveon > fraudette for yard teams

quickjester-17 OP

Is sylveon actually better?

daringknight-67

well not on an absolute scale

daringknight-67

but the idea is that the fire + fairy core is strong so you kinda wanna bring them together

daringknight-67

but you cant

daringknight-67

soooo

daringknight-67

sylveon

@daringknight-67 if i remember correctly the consensus was sylveon > fraudette for yard teams
sagetemple-50

yeah exactly, sylveon is just so much better. as floette is entirely dependent on mega, and doing that means giving up your only drought setter and arguably the strongest mega yet. so just not worth it

quickjester-17 OP

:NW_Hmmm: I see

quickjester-17 OP

What kinda set would a Sylveon on a yard team even do for spread

sagetemple-50

make the sylveon slightly more bulky only fast enough to outspeed the steel mons. and now you have a decently tanky mon to go beside your charizard both doing bat shit spread damage

daringknight-67

32 Hp / 13 Def is the minimum to tank jolly sneasler

daringknight-67

assuming you care

quickjester-17 OP

10 HP / 0 Atk / 15 Def / 30 SpA / 0 SpD / 11 Spe

daringknight-67

if im not mistaken the meta is super wonky right now

quickjester-17 OP

It is

daringknight-67

people are genuinely running yard on rain teams

quickjester-17 OP

They are

daringknight-67

and there are max bulk yard here and there

quickjester-17 OP

They use yard up front swap into pelipper then use its beast of a attack stat to use weather ball

@daringknight-67 and there are max bulk yard here and there
quickjester-17 OP

Yeah but aero folds max bulk yard

daringknight-67

mega charizard y is my favorite fire, grass and water attacker

quickjester-17 OP

Lmao basically

quickjester-17 OP

11 speed also outspeeds jolly sneasler under tailwind

quickjester-17 OP

For syl

@quickjester-17 Yeah but aero folds max bulk yard
daringknight-67

i think they do it for accelerock

@quickjester-17 10 HP / 0 Atk / 15 Def / 30 SpA / 0 SpD / 11 Spe
daringknight-67

does this take a dire claw?

quickjester-17 OP

32 Atk Sneasler Dire Claw vs. 10 HP / 15 Def Sylveon: 168-198 (93.3 - 110%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO

quickjester-17 OP

Alot of sneasler are starting to run bulk so I assume yes

quickjester-17 OP

Though 17 defense would crank the chance to a near 50/50

@quickjester-17 11 speed also outspeeds jolly sneasler under tailwind
sagetemple-50

that doesn't do anything tho, sylv doesn't have a good enough answer for sneasler

sagetemple-50

so it outspeeding barely makes a difference

quickjester-17 OP

Well normally I would switch out of sylv if I saw a sneasler

quickjester-17 OP

32 Atk Sneasler Dire Claw vs. 10 HP / 26 Def Sylveon: 150-176 (83.3 - 97.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

quickjester-17 OP

But that would rob most of its attacking stat

quickjester-17 OP

Ntm I have chomp and venu

quickjester-17 OP

I don't think I need to worry about if it lives dire claw
