Summary
In the Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments server, a community member is seeking advice to refine a bulky balance team featuring Archaludon and Klefki. The discussion explores transitioning away from rain-based archetypes and optimizing defensive cores to climb beyond Master Ball rank. This thread is a valuable resource for players looking to improve their competitive team-building skills and understand defensive synergy in the current VGC meta.
I built this team aiming for a "bulky balance" style, but it ended up becoming a somewhat questionable rain team. Honestly, I’d love some advice on how to improve it (I’d rather not add Pelipper or Politoed unless I drop Primarina—which I’m hoping to do, as the way I’m using it has been disappointing). I’m open to changes regarding EVs, specific Pokémon, or the overall concept.
I’d really appreciate any help, as I don’t have much experience with team building.
I’ve reached Master Ball rank for the past three seasons, though I haven't managed to climb higher than the top 200k.

First of all, thanks a lot for the advice.
Getting down to business: I might not have the right name for the type of team I’m building, but I really like Pokémon that can take a hit and play defensively. Take Archaludon, for instance—it boosts itself gradually each turn thanks to Electro Shot and Stamina. That’s exactly why I run only Light Screen on Klefki; it compensates for Archaludon’s very low Special Defense, allowing it to easily tank a Focus Blast from Mega Raichu-Y, for example.
Mega Kangaskhan seems like a solid fit for what I’m aiming for, but I feel it lacks damage output. That’s why the Lopunny option looks really interesting; it would let me hit Ghost-types like Gholdengo with Fake Out and Close Combat, plus I’ve actually wanted to build a team around her for a while.
The "rain" concept might be a bit diluted—and yes, it definitely is. Rather than using weather as a primary win condition, I’m using it more as a counter to automatic weather setters like Mega Charizard Y, Pelipper/Politoed, Torkoal, or Tyranitar, which are quite common in the meta. Since Archaludon also benefits significantly from that weather, it’s a win-win situation.
As for Incineroar’s Snarl, the idea was indeed to support Archaludon, though I might have focused too much on the move dealing damage instead of just letting it serve a support role.
Ok so
Kangaskhan kinda needs sucker punch cause of its speed
and i dont think it can fit on this team mega pert seems better overall
klefki
just use grimmsnarl bro
rillaboom
make it a bit specially bulkier and have fewer atk evs since it needs to be switching in and out many times for terrain wars
replace primarina with a rain setter
and arch
run dragon pulse instead of draco
