Summary

The Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments server presents a deep dive into the Sandtile team archetype. This guide explains how to utilize the synergy between Mega Sceptile and Rotom's Discharge, while optimizing Sand Stream usage with Tyranitar and Excadrill. It is an essential read for players looking to refine their team preview decision-making and master complex positioning in competitive VGC battles.

The Sceptile/Rotom idea has a clear purpose: Discharge can boost Mega Sceptile through Lightning Rod while damaging the opponents. Make sure Sceptile has actually Mega Evolved before relying on that immunity. Discharge also hits your partner in the other modes, so Excadrill is a much safer neighbour than Tyranitar or Volcarona.

You don’t need to Mega Tyranitar for the sand mode to function. Base Tyranitar still supplies Sand Stream, which lets you use Mega Sceptile and Sand Rush Excadrill in the same game. I’d practise that four before changing members; decide whether you need Sceptile’s special pressure or Mega Tyranitar’s damage at preview rather than treating both stones as automatic upgrades.
