Summary
At Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments, community members collaborate to refine competitive doubles teams. This discussion focuses on optimizing a team featuring Mega Scizor, exploring the benefits of rain synergy versus trick room setups. It highlights the importance of move selection, such as incorporating Protect, to help players improve their performance in Master Ball tier battles.
So this is my team rn. I’m quite new to competitive pokemon, so I have no clue really about streamlining my mons to work together and be as effective as possible. I like using my favourites and I’m not too bothered about being unstoppable in the meta, I just wanna pick up some wins and have fun. Any help would be appreciated

the hard cut into seeing mega Slowbro Gave me a heart attack
Hey hey! Although some of your mons are good, most of them have no real use case
If you want to be using your favourites, what are some of your favourite mega evolutions?
You're also missing so many protects
Mega scrafty, slowbro, scizor, sceptile, and scolipede. I know they aren’t the best, but somehow they’ve gotten me to master ball twice. I think the fact that nobody expects them helps, but I will be sad to let some of them go
Unfortunately you can’t play them all yeah haha
Theyre actually all pretty decent except for slowbro so if you want, take your pick and we can build around it!
mega Scizor probably the most useable one
Slowbro has actually been my main win condition haha, he’s great against garchomp and metagross
But yeah let’s try scizor
Mega Scizor works! How do you feel about rain teams?
Never used a rain team before. Would a trick room team work with him? If not I’m down to try rain
He’s actually too fast to be great in trick room haha
But Scizor is good in rain because the rain reduces the only weakness, and Scizor can help kill annoying grass types
Rain is also very simple to build and play so I suggest it to newer players pretty often
Okay great, I’ll have a look for some mons I like that can set up rain
The only real answer is Pelipper
Along with Archaludon as the best rain abuser in the game
But beyond those three there is a lot of freedom in how you want to build rain
If you want I can give you some ideas to try out
I was thinking of politoad over pelipper. Wouldn’t mind having someone with rain dance too just in case
Sableye

Unfortunately Politoed doesn’t have nearly the same amount of utility that Pelipper does in terms of both damage and other moves
But yeah Sableye is a great mon if you want extra rain dance and other useful things!
Unless you're wolfie pelipper is the only option
Damn okay. Was hoping to avoid that stupid pelican
But I guess if I have to
You can just not use it and only have Sableye but it's not very beginner friendly
imo at least
Yeah don’t do that
So now that we have our selection of four so far, there are a few options you have
One of them is picking mega Swampert as your main physical mega in matchups where Scizor will not be applicable
The other option is picking Basculegion to fit that physical rain attacking role, and then choosing a different Mega to cover for rains other difficult matchups such as Zard Y
The second option means that you will have filled out your team, making it more offensively oriented with Sableye as your exclusive support
How about helioptile with dry skin?
Where if you pick Swampert you can fit another mon on your team
Heliolisk sorry
Heliolisk is kind of just worse than Archaludon unfortunately because of the bridge having electro shot
Noted
Archaludon is pretty much central to any rain team
you'll be making yourself at a high disadvantage against garchomp too with heliolisk
Just tryna work with what I’ve got, since I don’t have much vp left
Thats fair
I’m happy to trade stuff you don’t have, and I can make sure it’s got the right moves
what mons do you have access to rn anyways

These guys
Oh you’ve got swampert! Nice!
How do you feel about playing swampert? It leaves you with another slot for a Pokémon of your choice
I like using swamped. Never tried his mega though
his mega is really strong rn because there isn't alot of grass types
It’s extremely good :D
And Scizor can help against the grass weakness if the enemy team has too many
Pelipper can also just click hurricane
Okay I’ll see what I can cook up. Thanks guys
Scizor's best moveset rn is probably Bullet punch, Bug bite, Duel wingbeat, and protect
just a heads up
Or, swords dance instead of wingbeat >:)
No worries! Always happy to help
Yeah it's nice too snowball if you can find the opportunity
Duel wingbeat is great for dealing with Sneasler, whimsicott, Sinischa, Mega staraptor, and Venu
especially since it's technician boosted
What would be the best item for sableye
roseli berry
run rain dance
encore
quash
Fake out/disable
or duel screens
Fake out
encore
Duel screens is easier to use so probably just do that
Do want screens or do you want really annoying support moves lmao
Screens me thinks
Lowkey araquanid would be super strong here with Liquidation
Wide guard
Icy wind
sticky web
but it's not an easy play style
I’m down to try araquanid. He’s one of my favourites
Screens is easy enough to use
Then you just chuck on rain dance and your next choice of support move
Duel screens encore rain dance would be the simplest to use
There’s like tens of options for the 4th move haha
Encore is good, fake out is good, quash, wisp, disable, foul play etc
