Summary
The Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments server shares a powerful and disruptive team strategy featuring Overqwil and Malamar. This guide breaks down how to use Simple Beam and Minimize to create an unstoppable setup, supported by Audino, Whimsicott, and Dragapult. It is an essential read for competitive players looking to optimize their VGC performance and master unconventional, high-pressure team compositions.
Here's a team that someone in a different server used. It's designed to be absolutely disgusting and toxic to your opponents.
The team: Malamar-Mega / Whimsicott / Chandelure / Dragapult / Audino / Overqwil
The objective: To set up minimize and other status moves with Overqwil or Chandelure (Overqwil strongly preferred), switch in Malamar, Mega, use Psych Up, then sweep the opponent's team.
Analysis:
Overqwil: This is one of the Mons you want to open up with every battle. Turn one use either throat chop or minimize, depending on the matchup, then after Audino uses Simple Beam on it, spam minimize, followed by Stockpile, then finishing with Swords Dance.
Audino: The main support. Some see Overqwil and see it as the main threat, so they focus all their attack on it. Others, however, know that Audino is the Mon that enables Overqwil to set up extremely quickly. Audino is the second Mon you should open up with, acting as your main support. Use Simple Beam turn one. If the opponent outspeeds your team, set up Trick Room turn two so Overqwil can set up safely. Use Heal pulse if Overqwil takes too much of a beating while setting up. Once Audino has successfully used Simple Beam on Overqwil, kept it healthy, and set up Trick Room if necessary, it's work is done.
Whimsicott: This Mon is mainly here to offer Light Screens, Taunts, and a Memento for their opponents if need be. Whimsicott buys Overqwil time if Audino goes down, which can happen often if your opponents realize how much of a threat it actually is.
Dragapult: This Mon acts as a secondary Screen Setter, having access to reflect. It's Wide Lens allows it to hit more often with "Will-O-Miss" to weaken the offense of physical opponents. Curse offers solid chip damage to opposing pokemon, whittling their HP down over time.
Chandelure: Let's face it, most of the time you're not bringing this Mon. But it's nice to have if you suspect your opponent has a solid way to take Overqwil down easily. Chandelure acts as a backup pokemon to set up minimize and other status moves if Overqwil goes down. Flamethrower acts as a good way to soften bulky opposing pokemon, while Calm Mind and Acid Armor round out the moveset with ways for Chandelure to set up further, allowing Malamar to sweep any non-dark-type pokemon team with Stored Power.
Malamar-Mega: This is the entire reason that Overqwil has to set up. Once Overqwil's attack, defense, special defense and evasiveness are maxed out, switch Malamar in, Mega, then use Psych Up on Overqwil to copy its stats onto Malamar itself. After that, sweep with Stored Power, and use Superpower on any pesky dark types, while using Rest when necessary. If Malamar goes down prematurely, Overqwil can still be tanky enough by this point to Throat Chop the opponent into submission, while the opponent has no solid answer to either of these bulky pokemon.
Conclusion: If you can successfully set up Overqwil and get Malamar in and copy Overqwil's stats, most opponents with any sense will forfeit before you even have to click a second move on Malamar. But even if they don't, most opponents aren't likely to have a solid answer to either Mon. Lefties on Overqwil allows it to heal fairly reliably, because by the time your opponent can even threaten Overqwil, it has set up two Minimizes with its new Simple ability and maxed out it's evasiveness, making it very difficult to land a hit on. Some opponents may not even wait for Malamar to switch in, forfeiting when they realize they can't even kill Overqwil.

- 10/10
Lol. It's supposed to be toxic
And you expect a good rating lmao nah
mods send em to the Argentina fans
It's a solid team. Jus because you don't like it, don't bash it.
Too bad I'm bashing it
Shame!
what
LMAO not even this team deserves that treatment
I’ll just let them rest with the fact that this is maybe the most skill less and boring team to exist lmao
It's a funny team. I called it shtsngiggles for a reason
Oh for sure haha
It does take some skill tho
And it's certainly not boring for the person that uses it.
Apparently the original owner of the team made some changes, so I might need to update it.
Fair enough
It’s not completely skillless but the gameplan is extremely streamlined and often depends a lot on luck
Obviously you can play it well the same way you could play it badly but it’s not exactly difficult to execute
And if it’s a team you enjoy then definitely keep using it!
True. It's a great team for beginners that don't know how to teambuild, ig
It’s very polarising
Either you give this team to a complete beginner so they can learn how to play, or give it to a seasoned veteran who is bored and wants to do something silly lmao
Pretty funny either way
almost quit against this same team a couple days ago

“Retardado mental” LMAO
I updated the team with the new changes.

that's a lot of changes haha
