Pokémon VGC Team Building Help: Reach Masterball Rank

Summary

At Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments, members collaborate to refine competitive teams for the Masterball climb. This discussion focuses on optimizing team composition, adjusting stat spreads, and countering popular weather archetypes like rain and sand. By swapping underperforming members for strategic picks like Mega Swampert and Heliolisk, players can improve their type diversity and overall win rate in competitive VGC battles.

gentleunicorn-54 OP

need help refining this team, I really want to reach masterball because im currenlty at ultraball 4
so if anyone could suggest a replacement or a whole new team, I'm open for it. And if my team is already good, can you tell me if the stat spread and moveset are also good (also held items please)

You might want some more type diversity. I can’t offer as good advice as other people, but I’d look at maybe swapping some that share a type with something that can counter the weaknesses

youngheron-29

3 grass types, 2 fairy, 2 fire

gentleunicorn-54 OP

what mons might that be? and what should I replace

zestywizard-62

Can I ask about the life orbed whimsicott

gentleunicorn-54 OP

my friend suggested it

youngheron-29

Sceptile would probably be worth swapping out. Do you know what kind of team you want to run?

gentleunicorn-54 OP

I want maybe more on countering weather teams like rain or sand

@gentleunicorn-54 my friend suggested it
zestywizard-62

I can suggest some stuff, itll take some time

gentleunicorn-54 OP

that's great for me

gentleunicorn-54 OP

much appreciated

ironpixel-34

Id drop the whimsy and keep it as a mega sceptile team. You can turn it into a sceptile rain team with swampert as an alternative mega

youngheron-29

Okay so maybe add a mega swampert instead of sceptile. He gets a boost in the rain and is really strong. Replace rotom with a heliolisk as he can have abilities that benefit from all weather besides snow

youngheron-29

He’s also a great counter to basculegion

gentleunicorn-54 OP

damn I'm learning all sorts of things here

Pokémon VGC Team Building Help: Reach Masterball Rank

ironpixel-34

Starrys idea is cool too though

ironpixel-34

Kovahs idea is cool too though

zestywizard-62

Valkrix is the goat cause they alr had what I was planning to jot down

ironpixel-34

If you built like this team though I'd take grim out for your sylveon idea

zestywizard-62

though im a bigger fan of energy ball over giga drain

@zestywizard-62 Valkrix is the goat cause they alr had what I was planning to jot down
ironpixel-34

Hahah this was my favourite team last season. Energy ball is better

gentleunicorn-54 OP

is sylveon better than grim

youngheron-29

I’m still new to team building myself, just throwing down some things that have helped me beat the meta

@gentleunicorn-54 is sylveon better than grim
zestywizard-62

offensively better yes

@ironpixel-34 Hahah this was my favourite team last season. Energy ball is better
zestywizard-62

It's a good team and still holds up

gentleunicorn-54 OP

so I can counter garchomps and other drag type

gentleunicorn-54 OP

will that team comp survive trick room tho

zestywizard-62

reckon you could even switch rotom for Archaludon an be more successful

@gentleunicorn-54 is sylveon better than grim
ironpixel-34

Agreed. This was taking the bones of a rain team and adding the sceptile core.
Id like to add arch but I feel rotom covers everything he brings anyway

@gentleunicorn-54 will that team comp survive trick room tho
zestywizard-62

negatory

youngheron-29

Oh yeah the bridge is so good in rain

zestywizard-62

Trick room is in all words

zestywizard-62

very trick to play around

ironpixel-34

It's always better to have a counter tr mon like sini if your worried. Or get good at stalling with protects

gentleunicorn-54 OP

so basically it's just up to me to play around trick room

@zestywizard-62 very trick to play around
ironpixel-34

Was there any different mons you were thinking of

zestywizard-62

preferably get good at stalling

zestywizard-62

its harder at first but improves you significantly

@ironpixel-34 Was there any different mons you were thinking of
zestywizard-62

I would actually suggest Incineroar over sneasler, and have it be min incase youre in trick room

gentleunicorn-54 OP

will this roster help me reach master

ironpixel-34

Stalling tr is very good in many ways because you will learn to stall out things like sun and tailwind too

@gentleunicorn-54 will this roster help me reach master
zestywizard-62

probably start with getting to Ultra ball

gentleunicorn-54 OP

I am at ultraball

@gentleunicorn-54 will this roster help me reach master
ironpixel-34

I agree with starry in bringing incin.. and i litterally took this from pokeball to master so it us doable

ironpixel-34

This was my climbing team

zestywizard-62

then yes its possible to masterball

ironpixel-34

But ive been masterball every season since launch 😂

gentleunicorn-54 OP

I'll try, thanks for the help guys

ironpixel-34

So tldr

Sceptile mega
Rotom remove trick maybe get electro web for speed control or thunder in rain would be cool
Incineroar
Peliper - wide guard optional swap for protect if you want
Sylveon
Swampert mega

@gentleunicorn-54 my friend suggested it
fleetsilver-84
