Hi all!
I'm preparing for this weekend's tournament, this is where i am.
The idea is to use Whimsicott + Incineroar + Rillaboom to control positioning and speed, then create openings for Mega Salamence to do most of the heavy lifting. Metagross helps into Fairy-heavy teams, while Primarina gives me a second special attacker and a much better way to play into slower teams / Trick Room.

I’d especially appreciate feedback on the overall team structure rather than just individual sets: whether the six work well together, if I’m too dependent on Salamence, any major matchup or coverage holes, and whether any slot feels redundant or could contribute more to the team’s win conditions. Also very open to smaller move/item/spread changes if you think they solve something specific.

Also, I'm starting to feel as I play longer, that Rillaboom is just there for 2 very specific reasons: Basculegion and Terrain. Basculegion is losing terrain (at least at my side of the ladder), and there are other terrain options, so... just early thoughts.

Looks good, I think people might be testing a couple points on speed on the rilla for mirror matches

this team looks very good, i really like the balance core with rilla/incin and salamence. they can all switch in for each other very well and i like the secondary mega metagross as it does very similar stuff to salamence while still covering its bad matchups. my only concern is, when does primarina come? the strategy seems quite centralised around those 4 pokemon (and metagross for if salamence is bad) but i feel like if you bring primarina then you have to not bring one of your 5 who you need for the strategy to work? or is primarina only for TR and slower matchups but doesnt come to anything else? if so i would consider using like taunt rillaboom or something and maybe switching primarina? i am only saying this because it seems as though double fake out is quite important to your gameplan of controlling positioning with incin/rilla and primarina doesnt really help with that, although i may have understood wrong and double fake out isnt really important, in which case yes i think primarina is a really good fit as it also has great typing synergy with the rest of your team and completes a fire/water/grass core

also you have probably noticed this and changed it but just in case, salamence has 32 physical attack instead of special attack 🙂

I MAXED ATTACK ON SALAMENCE. Amazing team bulder here. Love it.

Thank you for your input , if you were to switch Primarina, any good options you would suggest?

rustymirror-80 OP

How about giving Salamence Tailwind and replacing Whimsicott for H-Arcanine?

i would probably switch it to something which enable a secondary mode, for example maybe if you changed it for excadrill and changed your metagross to mega tyranitar, you could bring a sand core whenever salamence is bad (this might be a bad example because your other pokemon dont really fit sand)

Quick update after the feedback on the first version of the team. I’ve made a few changes that I want to test before committing to them. The original version had Flamethrower Salamence + Whimsicott + Incineroar; I’m now testing Tailwind Salamence + Hisuian Arcanine + Kingambit instead.

The main idea is to make the team less support-heavy and give it more independent offensive pressure. Salamence taking over Tailwind makes Whimsicott less mandatory, so H-Arcanine comes in as a fast non-Mega breaker with strong Fire/Rock coverage into things like Gholdengo, Kingambit, Mega Golisopod and Charizard. Kingambit then replaces Incineroar to add another real win condition, improve the matchup into Gholdengo/Psychic Terrain structures, and punish Intimidate with Defiant. Rillaboom still keeps Fake Out and terrain control, while Primarina gives the team a slower special mode and Mega Metagross remains the alternative Mega, particularly useful into Sneasler/Fairy-heavy teams.

The obvious trade-off is losing Prankster Tailwind/Encore, Parting Shot and a second Intimidate, so the team is definitely moving from balance toward more bulky offense. I’m especially interested in whether losing Incineroar makes physical/Fighting matchups too uncomfortable, and whether putting all speed control on Salamence makes it too mandatory.

Would love feedback on the overall structure, any matchups you think become noticeably worse, and whether you’d build H-Arcanine/Kingambit differently.
