Lebanese Army Launches Huge Operation in Bekka Valley - Drone strikes house of notorious drug dealer and wanted fugitive Monzer Zeaiter, aka "Abou Salleh,"
The latest:
Around noon, the Lebanese Army launched a major security operation in Baalbek’s Sharawneh neighborhood, fully encircling the area and striking the residence of top fugitive Ali Monzer Zeaiter, aka "Abou Salleh," with multiple drone-fired missiles. Zeaiter and others targeted in the raid are known to have enjoyed long-standing protection from Hezbollah in this lawless stronghold.
Shortly after the strikes, armed men launched a retaliatory attack on an army barracks in Hermel’s Wadi Fissan.
The operation marks a bold move by the LAF in its intensified crackdown on fugitive networks and drug lords, particularly in Hezbollah-influenced areas of the Bekaa. Gunfire echoed throughout Sharawneh amid heavy security deployment. No official army statement yet on arrests.
Hezbollah supporters erupted in outrage on social media following reports that the Lebanese Army conducted a targeted raid against drug traffickers in Baalbek’s Sharawneh — a neighborhood long considered a Hezbollah stronghold.
The backlash comes amid growing tension between the army’s push for law enforcement and areas historically shielded by the party. Many online comments accused the military of "crossing red lines" by striking figures once seen as untouchable.
