Integrating Optimum Realism RTX with Custom Resource Packs

Summary

This announcement on the Optimum Realism server explores the technical challenges of merging high-quality PBR RTX textures with custom Minecraft Bedrock resource packs. It focuses on preserving the architectural integrity of a detailed Minas Tirith map while utilizing advanced ray tracing features. The discussion provides insight into modifying terrain_texture.json and texture_set.json files to achieve seamless visual compatibility for complex custom worlds.

Hi everyone! I need some help integrating Optimum Realism RTX with a custom Minecraft Bedrock world.

I’m currently using Optimum Realism R4.2.0 256x RTX+VV with a highly detailed Minas Tirith (Gondor) map inspired by The Lord of the Rings.

The world originally comes with its own custom resource pack, which replaces vanilla block textures with specific architectural materials.

My goal is to use Optimum Realism’s high-quality PBR textures and ray tracing while preserving the original appearance of Minas Tirith, including:

  • White stone walls and detailed architecture
  • Dark gray rooftops
  • Symmetrical stone pavement patterns
  • Original decorative details and material placement

I’ve already created several compatibility resource packs, and the results have improved significantly. However, some textures are still mismatched, especially the pavement and rooftops.

The main issue seems to be that the original Gondor resource pack uses custom texture mappings for different vanilla block variants, while Optimum Realism uses its own texture atlas and PBR materials.

My question is: Is there a recommended way to integrate Optimum Realism’s PBR textures with an existing custom resource pack while preserving the original block texture mappings?

Would modifying terrain_texture.json, blocks.json, and the corresponding .texture_set.json files be the correct approach?

I’d really appreciate any technical advice or guidance from the developers or community.

Thanks in advance!
