How to Choose a Christian Denomination | /r/christians

I've only ever gone to non-denominational churches, and while I do enjoy for the most part, I'm also curious about other denominations. I don't know much about the differences in all of them (I'm looking into it currently).

Hope this was the right spot for this question. Thank you 💜

How do I know what Soil I am?

I had left Christianity for around a decade since my teens. Since some years I've started to come around, and since a few months i have clearly felt my heart pull towards Jesus. I have since read many online testimonies and watched videos. But I had never read the Bible completely. I have since started and Matthew 13 verse 18-23 explains the parable of the seed in the soil. I am generally an anxious and worried person and am afraid this means I am the soil with Thorns, the distracted heart. How do I know if I am? If I am how do I become the good soil?

How to Build a Biblical Relationship in 2026

Dating was never a thing in the Bible; it was primarily arranged marriage. So how do you start a biblical relationship with someone? Dating seems like a trap for lust and not for growth together, so how do you go about it now?

Understanding Slavery in the Bible: Faith and Questions

Can someone please explain slavery in the Bible for me? It doesn’t make sense to me why God would even say it’s okay for it to happen. I don’t think that just because it was a long time ago that makes it okay because God should never change.

If it was being a hired servant than why didn’t the Bible just use that word? And if it was always in a situation where someone willingly sold themselves to slavery then would they really be a slave anymore if they willingly did something to get something in return? And what would the verse no kidnapping mean if they were buying them from other people?

I’m really struggling with this in the Bible. I feel like I’ve lost all the faith I’ve once had but I don’t think I could ever support anything that supports the enslavement of human beings against their will. It doesn’t make sense to me since the Bible is against being a slave to sin so why is it endorsing the enslavement of human beings? You can correct me if I got all the information wrong. I’m just really struggling with my mental health and faith due to this question. I’ve begged God for an answer and I only get signs but I never get any answers to my questions. I don’t want to give up though and I’m scared what will happen if I do.

Catholic-like Practices on r/christians: Our Policy

What We Permit (with Charity and Room for Discussion)

Because the Reformation itself did not resolve every sacramental nuance, and because confessional Lutherans, Anglicans, Methodists, Presbyterians, Reformed, Baptists, and broader evangelicals all rightly claim the Reformation heritage, we permit respectful discussion of:

  • Baptismal views ranging from credobaptist memorialism to paedobaptist covenantal sign-and-seal to Lutheran baptismal regeneration, provided the view upholds sola fide and does not make the rite itself the ground of justification apart from Christ received by faith.[^20][^23][^1]
  • Eucharistic views ranging from memorialism to Reformed spiritual presence to Anglican "heavenly and spiritual" reception to Lutheran sacramental union, provided transubstantiation and any propitiatory re-sacrifice are rejected, per Article XXVIII.[^16][^7][^17]
  • The language of "sacrament" and "means of grace" when used in its confessional Protestant sense: God's gift received by faith, not a human work earning merit.[^22][^18][^20][^21]
  • Liturgical practice, vestments, the Christian calendar, the sign of the cross, set prayers, the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds, declarative absolution, and other historic adiaphora.
  • Private devotional practices such as meditative prayer using beads or a prayer rope, provided the content is strictly addressed to the Triune God (e.g., the Jesus Prayer) and does not invoke Mary or the saints.

Full Statement

Non-Permitted Catholic-like Practices for r/christians

What We Do Not Allow

The following are outside the boundaries of this server because they contradict one or more of the five solas, the sole mediation of Christ, the priesthood of all believers, or the prohibition of creature-worship:

  • Promotion, teaching, or devotional practice of the traditional Marian rosary, including the full Hail Mary ("Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners"), the Salve Regina, the Fatima prayer, or meditation on the Assumption or Coronation of Mary as Mysteries.
  • Invocation of Mary or any saint as intercessor, patron, or mediator; prayers addressed to them in any form.
  • Marian devotion framed as theotokos-veneration beyond the simple Christological affirmation that Mary is the mother of the incarnate Son; no shrines, pilgrimages, Marian titles ("Our Lady of ___"), or Marian images used devotionally.
  • Veneration of icons, statues, or relics — no bowing, kissing, lighting candles to, or praying before any image as a devotional act; Exodus 20:4–5 and the priesthood of believers settle this.
  • Eucharistic adoration, reservation of the host for worship, or elevation as an object of devotion, consistent with Article XXVIII.
  • Transubstantiation and any teaching that the Supper is a propitiatory re-offering of Christ.
  • Prayers for the dead, purgatory, or indulgences in any form.
  • Sacerdotalism — teaching that an ordained clergyman is an essential priestly mediator between the believer and God apart from the priesthood of all believers in Christ.
  • Teaching that any rite, practice, object, or person is necessary for salvation apart from Christ received by faith, or that adds to the sufficiency of Scripture.

How Do You Know You Are Truly Saved? | /r/christians

I have prayed to ask for his forgiveness and to accept me into his kingdom but I'm wondering should I feel different. I notice a larger pull to evade sin but I can't tell if I'm just more conscious of it or its somethings actually changed. How do I truly know?

Is AI A Tool Of The Devil?

Some see the release of this version of artificial intelligence as the beginning of the end - and I'm not saying it isn't, while others are using in ways both helpful and harmful.

Many are using as a tool to satisfy the lusts of the flesh. Can that same tool be used for good, to the glory of God? Let's ask various versions to see what they say - then discuss to figure out if that's what they're supposed to say...

Spiritual Bypassing in Christianity: A Deep Discussion

As the question I pose here, though not really a prominent concept in Christianity. I just wanted to see everyone’s thoughts and thought process on this ‘Spiritual bypassing’

For starters I’ll give a definition of what this means:

Gemini Ai Spiritual bypassing in Christianity occurs when believers use scriptures, theological concepts, or platitudes (e.g., "just pray," "God’s got this") to avoid facing painful emotions, trauma, or complex,, real-world problems. It acts as a "spiritual bandage" that sidesteps deep healing, often leading to emotional repression, toxic positivity, and dismissal of suffering.

Key elements and manifestations include:
Weaponizing Faith: Using phrases like "God has a plan" or "just have more faith" to invalidate another person's pain or to suppress one's own grief.

Neglecting Emotional Health: Treating mental health or emotional struggles as simple lack of prayer, refusing to address the psychological,, or physical root causes.

Over-Spiritualizing Struggles: Assuming all human,,,,, issues are strictly spiritual, thereby avoiding the hard work of processing grief, anger, or relational, problems.

Ignoring the Shadow Side: Avoiding "negative" emotions like anger, fear, or sadness, which are actually present in the Bible (e.g., Jesus's distress in Gethsemane).

Dismissing Compassion: Rushing to fix problems instead of "mourning with those who mourn".

Healthy Faith vs. Bypassing
While faith is important, healthy Christianity encourages bringing pain to God and, often,, seeking counseling or community support, rather than using faith to escape reality. True spiritual growth involves confronting pain with God's compassion, rather than avoiding it.
