Mega Houndoom VGC Team Building Guide | Pokémon Champions

Résumé

The Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments community discusses optimizing a Mega Houndoom sun team. This guide covers core synergy with Ninetales and Rillaboom, while providing critical advice on managing Solar Power HP drain and Archaludon's role against rain teams. It is an essential read for trainers looking to refine their competitive VGC strategies and improve their team composition.

I'm thinking rillaboom( deals with ground and water types) , houndoom mega), whimsicott(weather setter), Ninetales(secondary weather setter), venasaur(chlorophyll pressure), and archaludon(rain counter)

Houndoom + Drought Ninetales + Rillaboom is a clear starting core. For Houndoom, try Heat Wave / Dark Pulse / Solar Beam / Protect. Whimsicott can carry Sunny Day as backup weather control and Tailwind, while Venusaur gives you a second attacker that benefits from sun.

Solar Power drains Houndoom’s HP in sun even when it uses Protect; Rillaboom’s terrain helps with recovery but doesn’t remove that cost. Don’t lock yourself into Solar Beam when an opposing rain setter can change the weather.

I’d test Archaludon carefully rather than labelling it a universal rain counter. Electro Shot charges immediately in rain, but takes two turns in your own sun. Keep Rillaboom healthy for the Water and Ground matchups instead of relying on Archaludon alone.
