OG Creator Breakdown(with rental): https://mutou610pokepoke.hatenablog.com/entry/2026/05/11/104825

I played a lot of blastoise last season, and saw this pretty cool team based on passing substitue to blastoise using orthworm. The og creator finished top 100 in reg m-1, and I used it to reach top 100 early reg m-2. I would definitely reccomend reading their post, but I'll explain my thoughts and how I used it here:

The primary goal of this team is pretty straightforward in almost every game: set up shell smash with blastoise and sweep. Blastoise with shell smash and rain genuinely does insane damage, it ohkos even most resists(max hp rotom-wash, can ohko some archaludon, etc). If you can set up this board state and keep blastoise safe you basically win. Its important to maintain HP on blastoise for full power water spout, but in the endgame after losing HP you still have a very strong dark pulse.
Meowstick: probably the most unique mon. it has fake out pressure to help orthworm use shed tail. Rain dance to counter charizard-y, yawn to force counters to switch out, and reflect to reduce damage to orthwork/blastoise. Its primary goal is to use fake out to enable blastoise, and then support it with yawn/rain/reflect.
Orthworm: Pretty straightforward, bulky with shed tail. It has sitrus so your opponent actually has to do 75% of its HP in order to stop shed tail.
Sneasler: More fake out pressure. CC to deal with kingambit, dire claw to hit fairies(both of these are weaknesses).
Sinistcha: also pretty normal, rage powder to redirect, life dew and hospitality to support if blastoise gets low(although I didn't get much use out of life dew when playing).
Scizor: definitely the least used mon. its good in the trick room matchup to hit farigiraf, its also good if your opponent has a lot of fairies.
Now onto leads/weaknesses/notes:

hazelpixel-44 OP

Standard Lead: Meowstick + Orthworm, Blastoise + Sneasler/Sinistcha in the back. Turn 1: Fake out + shed tail to set up blastoise, then support with meowsticks other moves. This is usually pretty strong unless the opponent has two pokemon that can damage orthwork enough to prevent shed tail(ex. pelliper + archaludon)
Other Leads: Sinistcha + Orthworm, redirect attacks from orthworm to pass shed tail
Weaknesses: After blastoise sets up shell smash its very frail because of lowered defenses. Its weak to strong priority(ex. kingambit sucker punch), and losing too much health on blastoise basically loses the game.
Sylveon, mega gardevoir, primarina, and kommo-o can all bypass substitue with sound based moves like hyper voice. You can't freely shell smash in front of these.
In both these cases, sneasler is a very necessary bring. Dire claw to deal with fairies and close combat to deal with kingambit. Also if you bring sneasler and meowstick, you can swap between them and basically keep spamming fake out to enable blastoise to keep moving despite these.

Anyways these are just my experiences with the team, y'all should definitely try it out since theres more to explore with this for sure. I tried sableye instead of meowstick and had mixed results. If you have any questions please ask and thank you for reading!

hazelpixel-44 OP

i found it super fun let me know how it goes!

youngpocket-73

i might try this out too

youngpocket-73

i really like meowstic, and i wanted to do smth with it that wasn’t expanding force related

youngpocket-73

pretty creative ngl

youngpocket-73

frr

hazelpixel-44 OP

same I was spamming torkoal last season lol

hazelpixel-44 OP

it fits my play style a little better for sure

hazelpixel-44 OP

sounds good, its pretty late for me though but I'm down to play anytime later as well

@youngpocket-73 i really like meowstic, and i wanted to do smth with it that wasn’t expanding force related
hazelpixel-44 OP

yeah I wanted a good way to make blastoise work and this team looked fun

hazelpixel-44 OP

theres also a vivillon blastoise team going around that I wanna try

royalcloud-73

This looks insane

youngpocket-73

for anyone interested

royalcloud-73

I wonder if this will work for mega Xard to give free ddances

hazelpixel-44 OP

thats a cool idea

hazelpixel-44 OP

theres also some synergy with orthworm because it disincentivizes ground type moves

youngpocket-73

holy cow

youngpocket-73

water sprout is VERY strong

youngpocket-73

do NOT let blastoise get a shell smash off

youngpocket-73

after some ladder testing

youngpocket-73

it is really satisfying to pull off

youngpocket-73

but you can’t bring orthworm, sinestcha and meowstic to the same battle all at once

youngpocket-73

after your blastoise goes down, you’ll be left with no plan B

royalcloud-73

Yeah Blastoise has been slowly taking over ladder

royalcloud-73

When I tested the team I brought orthworm meow blast sneas and it worked just fine

@youngpocket-73 but you can’t bring orthworm, sinestcha and meowstic to the same battle all at once
hazelpixel-44 OP

I had the same feeling, most games I would bring sneasler as the 4th

royalcloud-73

Gonna be testing this with other megas to see if anything else feels good tomorrow as well.

@hazelpixel-44 I had the same feeling, most games I would bring sneasler as the 4th
youngpocket-73

fr frr

youngpocket-73

i only really bring scizzor in tr

@hazelpixel-44 Anyways these are just my experiences with the team, y'all should definitely try it out since there…

Which move you used with Sableye instead of Yawn? I was thinking Confuse Ray could be fun

@smartinbox-23 Which move you used with Sableye instead of Yawn? I was thinking Confuse Ray could be fun
hazelpixel-44 OP

I used encore and disable instead of yawn/reflect. I thought it would be good to disable hyper voicers, stop whimsicott from encoring, etc

@hazelpixel-44 I used encore and disable instead of yawn/reflect. I thought it would be good to disable hyper voic…
youngpocket-73

that’s pretty cool :D

youngpocket-73

in my experience on the showdown ladder, people really underestimate yawn

youngpocket-73

and don’t switch out

Completely walled by Perish Song teams tho

hazelpixel-44 OP

usually wanna lead orthworm and meowstick. orthworm can shed tail out of shadow tag, and meowstick can yawn gengar turn 1 to either prevent perish song or force gengar to switch out and remove shadow tag. after yawning its pretty safe to bring in blastoise

hazelpixel-44 OP

you gotta be careful of plays where they switch twice tho(like in that game they switched out gengar, and let you ko incin to bring it back in)

smartinbox-23

Wait... does yawn work on Gengar?

smartinbox-23

Normal type against a Ghost, I just figured it wouldn't work

hazelpixel-44 OP

yeah kinda weird but it does

hazelpixel-44 OP

normal type status moves usually work on ghosts

smartinbox-23

lol good to know

smartinbox-23

Damn this is not an easy team to pilot

smartinbox-23

Very easy for things to go downside if you don't setup Blastoise and sucks against trick room, sinistcha is mandatory there

smartinbox-23

But then between sinistcha, meowstic and orthworm there's not much power, it's fully reliant on blastoise

smartinbox-23

A fun team when it works though

smartinbox-23

Encore on shell smash is such an easy counter to this geam

hazelpixel-44 OP

yeah its definitely not good into trick room

hazelpixel-44 OP

you have to be super careful around encore but tbh I've found it to be pretty winnable

hazelpixel-44 OP

after shell smash you wanna protect next turn and switch out the partner to meowstic/sneasler for fake out

merrykitten-85

Going to try this team tomorrow
