Children of the Corn
is a Stephen King short story about a couple, Burt and Vicky, who stumble upon a murderous cult of children in the rural Nebraska town of Gatlin while driving through cornfields. The children worship a demonic entity called "He Who Walks Behind the Rows" and kill all adults over 19, leading to a terrifying encounter for the couple after they run over a boy who was already dead. The story was first published in Penthouse magazine in 1977 and later included in King's 1978 collection Night Shift, and it spawned a long-running horror film franchise.

Watchers
is a 1987 suspense/horror novel by Dean Koontz about a lonely man, Travis Cornell, who encounters an extraordinarily intelligent golden retriever, Einstein, that has escaped from a secret government lab. The dog is being hunted by a ruthless assassin and a monstrous, genetically engineered creature called "The Outsider," leading Travis and a woman named Nora into a deadly confrontation with the lab's dark creations. The book explores themes of humanity, genetic engineering, and the bond between humans and animals.

The Haunting of Hill House
is a classic 1959 gothic horror novel by Shirley Jackson about a group of people investigating a notoriously haunted mansion, Hill House, focusing on psychological terror and the blurring lines between supernatural events and the characters' mental states, particularly that of the fragile protagonist, Eleanor Vance. The story follows Dr. Montague, his assistant Theodora, Eleanor, and Luke (the heir) as they experience increasingly disturbing phenomena, with the house seeming to target Eleanor, exploring themes of loneliness, trauma, and the human psyche.

Dead Meat
There's a Butcher on the Loose is a 2015 Indian noir crime novel by Ankush Saikia, the first in the Arjun Arora Mystery series, featuring a flawed private detective in Delhi investigating a gruesome murder linked to match-fixing and corruption during the T20 cricket craze. The book is known for its gritty portrayal of urban India, dark humor, and compelling characters, blending a hard-boiled detective story with social commentary.

Psycho
, a 1959 horror novel by Robert Bloch, tells the story of Norman Bates, a motel owner with a domineering, deceased mother, who becomes a killer when a female guest checks in, leading to a shocking twist revealing his fractured psyche. Inspired by real-life murderer Ed Gein, the book is considered a landmark in horror, popularizing tropes like the isolated setting, the serial killer, and the "mother" figure, and was famously adapted into Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film.
