I understand the age and graphics and even gameplay. I must say though the director of angles, close ups etc for the classic. Knew what they were doing and It really did age well due to his work.
I just knew crowbcat would find a way to downplay RE4R, it was only a matter of time.
Though, most of the examples have more to do with ambience and map layout, than any other heavier point of contention. He did, of course, include the upskirt dialog in the video.
All in all, I wouldn't say that RE4R is 'soulless'

Graphics help a lot, It allows the game to have less baked graphics and more real-time. Original RE was all about jump scares and ambience. The new RE is more about the creatures and interactions with them.

I prefer the original more than the remake. Some of the remake changes annoyed me the entire run. The whole thing with the skirt is that they shouldn't have taken it away. Her outfit is the worst thing to ever graze my eyes. They hid her ears too. The knife having durability forcing me to use bullets more often and I run out of ammo more thanks to that. They didn't even remake some of the other outfits. I played the game on hard-core my first run btw then tried professional because in the original the whole concept of they do more damage but you also do more damage was cool to me but they removed that aspect and it was just hard-core with 2 changes to it like what?
Idk, I honestly loved both. The skirt thing never bothered me in either, mostly because I learned about it years after I beat the game several times.

It's tough... Honestly after side by side. The OG is more hammy but it works for RE and it's silly rockstar Hollywood scripts and events. The new VA works but lots of these deliveries are so dry and feels like she's just kinda awkwardly talking to someone. Not on a mission in a strange country as a one-in-a-million hired mercenary working both sides.
Realism is fine, I just feel the OG fits the "setting and source material" better.
The new VA definitely has a voice than can work, it's just the delivery and pacing that feels a bit off.
