This discussion explores critical adjustments, including potential replacements for Empoleon and Ape, while evaluating the benefits of incorporating Kingambit and Sableye for weather control and support. It is a must-read for trainers looking to refine their competitive VGC builds and improve team synergy.
I made a variation of the Sceptile rotom team but I’m uncertain what should be my 6th mon or if any of the mons need stat or move adjustments. Also PLEASE don’t recommend garchomp

let’s see
ngl
ape looks pointless here
I use it to hit steal and rock
And it grants a immunity to fighting
I don’t know what to replace it with though
That’s why it’s here
yeah but you already have that with earth power and overheat
and drain punch is not doing alot
True
Basculegion would be better as your ghost type
and gives you a physical attack pressurer
I didn’t go with it because empoleon worked as a better water type for me because of its steel typing and competitive
it's kinda bad here though
You get pressured by garchomp, sneasler, Archaludon, and sinischa walls you
Good point
being so slow it's not outspeeding Charizard even with tailwind
But it could work as option if my opponent turns on trick room
And what steel type would do it’s job better if I get rid of it
If I get rid of empoleon for basc who would be a good final mon and if I kept empoleon who would be a good last mon for that variant
Honestly instead of Basc there is something else you can go with and it's Kingambit and Sableye with Sunny day
it gives you a check against weather
gives you Sun boosted overheat and More importantly Solar beam on sceptile
Quash also a good support option
you can run duel screen for survivability
encore to bait people with protect
fake out because fake out and you can't be faked out because ghost types(unless it's kangaskhan or idk loopunny)
sorry late
i was doing chores
I have a personal vendetta against kingambit
So no
Aite i guess
idk Aegislash
Ok
it also completely walls out sneasler
But not only am I getting rid of a fire water grass core but solar beam on scep is really risky
True
ehhh not really
since it goes after both switching and megas
there's nothing stopping you from hitting sunny day and solar beam
True but if sableye get taken out then I can’t set it up again
Also setting up sun helps Charizard which already isn’t that good of a match up for the team
It just feels a bit too gimmicky
brother you're running mega sceptile
the team is already gimmicky
I know
But I don’t want to be locked out of my grass move if I want to go for the strat
what match up would you really even need to press a grass type move for though
there really isn't alot of grass weak threats running around
Basc
Ttar
Swampert
Mega blastoise is no longer just a ladder mon
You know what could help with that
Sunny day
True
But o would have to switch him in then attack
I’ll try it
But just in case I do want a 6th mon for the original team with empoleon
Or one for the basc variant
probably sneasler or Sylveon
maybe gholdengo
also recommend adding 1 more speed on rotom
if you're speed tieing your rotom the whole discharge lightning rod thing won't always work correctly
Ok
He also has a priority move to finish off mons as well
Like Pelipper is unironically a better offensive water type here and I'm completely deadass
Rain boosted weather ball is more reliable
Hurricane hits sneasler, sinisch, Venusaur, mega staraptor for super effective
Wide guard stops rock slide
it resist Sneaslers CC and immune to ground so garchomp no EQ
and has Ice beam to threaten garchomp
Good point
I’ll try the basc version
