Off-Meta Mega Pokémon Teams: Malamar & Absol VGC Builds
Summary
Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments presents two unconventional Mega Pokémon teams designed for fun and competitive play. This announcement features a Contrary Mega Malamar build paired with support from Salazzle and Sinistcha, alongside a Justified-based Mega Absol strategy. These builds offer unique tactical approaches for players looking to experiment with off-meta strategies in their next VGC tournament.
Are they practical? no. Are they good? debatable. Are they funny? Yes, and thats what matters.
First team is Mega Malamar https://pokepast.es/711c46324b08b6d6 Mega malamar is the primary mega who wants to press superpower, mega staraptor is the most optional piece, i just picked it because "haha funny other contrary pokemon" for whims, i picked tickle over charm because malamar is VERY frail, so i want to boost its attack and defense with the same move. salazle boosts malamars stats it cant itself, and offers disable + fake out support, sinistcha do sinistcha and keep malamar alive, and arch is mainly for my harder matchups, sylveon and floette. i can usually deal with zard y with fake out + superpower then scary face or fake tears (depending if they have tailwind up or not) then psycho cut.

My main idea is to lead grim, do grim, then parting into absol and justified beat up away, then sweep. i want weavile for fake out + garchomp answer (earthquake hurts even with friend guard and play rough okay?) i feel this slot is expendable though. whims is my speed control on this team, and floette is my secondary mega bc it resists both bug and fighting, which absol doesnt like

i havent really been making too many new teams into champions and using the same 3 that i did before the ladder reset

So itll come down to the kinda speed support stuff has
we know they made mega absol z to say "FUCK YOU" to calyrex shadow
Funnily trick room will be good
hits calyrex shadow for 4 x super effective with both stabs and is one point faster
presumably mega golisopd will be added, and regardless of its ability i doubt it'll be bad
it might be scary with dragalage as the other mega since one is a special wall and the other is a physical one

What id like most is like a incin twin but different typing
So similar that you’d never use them both on the same team but just adds variety to teams

i used to make them forfiet turn 2 because phantom force dragapult ohko gengar, go through protect, and avoid perish song lol

i sometimes make plays like that and lose because all my opponents apparently cannot read
i can genuinely fight a hissuian zoarak, switch between a ghost and normal type, and they'll go "ooh. me press ghost bc it super effective into ghost"
Same tho I lost to a rain team in a tournament because they didn’t protect their swampert on the last turn of trick room in front of energy ball drampa

i changed the last slot for anihlape so beatup + rage fist can be another lead, and it's pretty good into sneasler, one of my biggest problems
