Refining the Froslass/Yaichu VGC Team | Pokémon Champions

Summary

At Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments, a community member is seeking advice to refine a Froslass/Yaichu team currently climbing the Master Ball ranks. The discussion covers critical weaknesses against Sneasler, Ground-type moves, and Trick Room setters, while exploring potential additions like Talonflame, Kleavor, and Sylveon. This thread is a great resource for players looking to improve their competitive team-building strategies.

Just reached MB3 while testing this cute little team. I'm really enjoying it so far, but surely there's room for improvement.

Sneasler is a big threat here, as there are 3 mons weak to it while no supereffective move whatsoever against it.

No real checks against Floette/Sylveon here too - Iron Head on Kingambit is the best I have against them.

Dual Screens and Trick Room can be very annoying to work around if I don't successfully stop the setter.

This team is quite weak to Ground type moves.

Changes I've been considering:
- A supportive Talonflame with moves like Taunt, Will-o-Wisp and Defog, that could also OHKO Sneasler easily with Brave Bird. It also gives me Ground immunity in one mon at least.
- My own Sneasler to check fairies, Archaludon and Kingambits - but this I want to avoid as I have been playing Sneasler in so many teams already (it is the GOAT)
- Sylveon over Kingambit for strong spread move on Hyper Voice and nuking with Hyper Beam
- At some point I considered Energy Ball/Giga Drain on Whimsy solely for Swampert, as my only real answer to it atm is Tsareena, who's gets OHKOed by Pelipper's Hurricane
- A Rock type mon or strong Rock type move somewhere for extra option against Pelipper and Charizard. I thought of Scarf Kleavor as it can also deal with Trick Room by OHKOing Farigiraf with X-Scissor.

I think that's it for now, open to any thoughts or suggestions here

here I am again

merrykitten-85

Cassandra and Hellen are funny

My answer to sneaz is a twin beam on farig

The team looks cool. Depending weather sneazler actually smashes you or not maybe keep with the same team

If it did maybe like talonflame over whimsi but most likely then want to change protoman haha

smartinbox-23 OP

My idea was to not even have Tailwind on Talon, so I would keep Whimsy and run maybe Sharp Beak on Talon. It would be a counter especially for Sneasler/mons weak to Flying + screen setters and TR setters, so set would be like Brave Bird/Will-o-Wisp/Defog/Taunt

smartinbox-23 OP

Maybe Quick Guard, but not sure which move I would replace for it

merrykitten-85

I guess that would go over the protoman slot ?

Yeah just that sounds cool but I worry that talon definitely needs protect

I thought duel wing for sneaz

smartinbox-23 OP

I think I would need to go close to max atk to guarantee Dual Wingbeat kills Sneasler, but yeah that might be great against Whimsicotts too.

You are def right about Protect. Dual Wingbeat/WoW/Taunt/Protect. I would need to Fake Out with Raichu + Taunt the Grimmsnarl to stop it from setting screens, but it should work

smartinbox-23 OP

I'm just afraid the team lack damage if I go with that

smartinbox-23 OP

Ok how about Tinkaton over Kingambit? A proper check to fairies, non-mega fake out support that I can bring with Froslass and is less afraid of Sneasler

I never used Tinkaton in vgc too, so might give it a try as I really like it, was on my team in Scarlet

smartinbox-23 OP

thinking of Tinkaton with Gigaton/Fake Out/Brick Break/Protect and ig Occa Berry or Metal Coat. She helps me stopping TR, get rid of screens and check fairies

smartinbox-23 OP

Despite he meh atk stat, Brick Break takes over half HP from Kingambits too

merrykitten-85

Tink is always pretty formidable
I really like encore on her

Yeah tinks stats are confusing because she still does decent damage

smartinbox-23 OP

What about an offensive Incineroar instead of Ceruledge here? With Roar to deal with Trick Room and screen setters.

Then maybe a Gholdengo in the Tink/Kingambit slot instead to deal with the fairies and walling Sneasler

@smartinbox-23 What about an offensive Incineroar instead of Ceruledge here? With Roar to deal with Trick Room and…
ironpanther-10

i just created a very strong Ceruledge Kingambit team, let me find it

Now I'm thinking - maybe a Staraptor team with Ceruledge and KG? Lol I think I'll do the Incineroar/Gholdengo changes to this Froschu team and cook this other team, I definitely still want to use Ceruledge

Another thread from me incoming soon :PokemonChampionsHappy:

smartinbox-23 OP

Ceruledge and KG just won me a match so hard and I tried Incin+Gholdengo for two matches and they didn't perform so well. Too much Sun teans out there, Ceruledge makes a difference

smartinbox-23 OP

I'm trying something that I might regret in just a couple of matches but: I replaced Moonblast with Energy Ball on Whimsicott. It's a STAB move with pretty much the same power as Moonblast. I already have Frolass and Tsareena to handle Garchomp and other dragons. It will surely surprise opponents, while Tsareena they can more easily work around with switches and protect. I probably will move back to Moonblast in a few hours but let's see how that goes

smartinbox-23 OP

The SPDef drop is super sweet too to support the other special attackers, much better than Moonblast's SPA drop, but definitely not a good excuse as it's only a 10% chance

Ok it came extremely in handy against a rain team in MB3, Whimsicott OHKOing Swampert is so nice to see
