Sand Box Suggestions Sandstorm Trick Room Help

Summary

In Pokémon Champions a member posts Sand Box Suggestions asking for help with a sandstorm + trick room team hardstuck at Ultra Ball 4. The announcement details concerns about three support Pokemon holding healing items, Mega Steelix underperforming, and struggles vs Archaludon, Mega Dragonite, and Basculegion. Community advice includes trying Tailwind and swapping Steelix for Aerodactyl or temporary Gliscor.

Original Post

The attached photos are my current team that I am hardstuck Ultra Ball 4 on right now. Overall I love playing sandstorm + trick room but I have some issues I would like help resolving.

  • Having three support Pokemon all holding healing items makes it feel like their support longevity is not being used properly.

  • Having three support Pokemon in general makes me feel like I don’t have enough firepower.

  • Mega Steelix I thought I saw potential in as a Trick Room threat, but I’ve been leaving it behind more and more as it just gets ignored or doesn’t have the right amount of bulk to survive even physical hits properly.

  • I tend to struggle against Archaludon, Mega Dragonite, Basculegion (Dual Dragon Rain).

Any and all advice would be appreciated! (I miss Gigalith…)

Most of your mons (excluding steelix) are in that middling tier where they can also benefit from tailwind

Have you thought about trying it to see how it feels?

If you swapped out steelix for Aerodactyl, you get a second mega still. Dual wingbeat. Fits sand. Allows you to swap out trick room on sinistcha for a slot for a move like life dew making it a bit more utility than it was and potentially opening up a slot

Honestly I was so fixated on Sandbox that I didn’t really consider Tailwind, but given what you said that all of them could benefit from Tailwind, I can absolutely give it a shot. I can check to see if I have Aerodactyl, if not I can briefly use my Bright Powder Sand Veil Gliscor to supplement until I can find Aerodactyl.

Just give it a try and see how it feels

Some people don't like that 80-100 range some do

After a few games I did originally struggle with Basculegion as before, but moving from Mega Steelix to even Bright Powder Sand Veil Gliscor was a massive improvement. There are some offensive reads I got wrong which led me down a losing streak, but overall the team is fairly consistent and have found counterplay to Basculegion just running over my team even if the weather gets immediately flipped (Gliscor Tailwind endgame and Knock Off or Sinistcha Rage Powder and Knock Off).

Play casuals until it feels good so you don't tank your rank

I got back higher than where I was now, so it is absolutely working, but I will take your advice for casual play until I find the right balance and gameplay loop for the team
