Swagger Dragapult & Rain Team Guide | Pokémon VGC Strategy

Summary

The Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments server hosts a deep dive into a unique dual win-condition team featuring Swagger Dragapult and a Rain Mode with Mega Swampert. This announcement includes the team ID and sparks a community discussion on optimizing rain setters and physical attackers. It is a valuable resource for players looking to refine their competitive VGC strategies and learn from peer feedback on team composition.

Been testing this team for a while and thought I’d share it here.

The idea is having two win conditions instead of relying on one combo.

⚡ Swagger + Lum Berry Dragapult

🌧️ Rain Mode with Mega Swampert

Team ID: 3RP1LUQ90N

Curious what you guys think. Anything you’d change or improve?

What the actual

cleverinbox-49

Uh ok, while I do like tech like swagger lum berry, I think having 2 mons who cannot do any damage isn't gonna end well

cleverinbox-49

You do not need 3 rain dance setters in my opinion

cleverinbox-49

Actually, if you rly want rain that badly you should just be using pelipper

cleverinbox-49

Your only special attacker is freaking farigraf, your tinkaton is rly random

cleverinbox-49

Actually, tinkaton can barely do damage either aside from gigaton hammer so you have 2 mons that do a lot of damage and 4 mons who either can't do any damage or struggle to do so

cleverinbox-49

And both are physical, ye sure dragapult is immune to intimidate but its still ginna deal with screens and with bulk up mons. Not to mention there is only one mega on this team

cleverinbox-49

I'm not saying swagger dragapult won't work, Ik it will, I've seen the strat bfore but you need good fundementals if you wanna try a gimmick

freshmartin-21 OP

Appreciate the feedback! 🙂

Yeah, I actually agree on the 3 Rain Dance setters. That’s probably the first thing I’d tweak. I’m thinking of giving Talonflame a Flying move instead so it can make better use of Gale Wings.

I’ll definitely give Pelipper a shot too and see how the team feels with it. Having another special attacker could be nice.

For Tinkaton, the main reason it’s there is Own Tempo as a second Swagger target. It also gives me a Fairy and Kingambit answer with Brick Break. At +2 with Life Orb, it actually hits harder than most people expect.

Still testing and tweaking the team though, so I appreciate the feedback. Out of curiosity, what would you run over Tinkaton?

cleverinbox-49

Ye I'm a bit sry for the way I conveyed it but ye I believe that the team has a lot of issues

cleverinbox-49

Hmmmm oh ok, ye that makes a lot more sense for why tinkaton was there

cleverinbox-49

Was wondering why you are using sableye over grimmsnarl for this

cleverinbox-49

I mean ig the rain dance thing would be lost but grimmsnarl has much better stats and also has swagger

@cleverinbox-49 Was wondering why you are using sableye over grimmsnarl for this
freshmartin-21 OP

Sableye to handle those fake out user, unless it’s scrappy fake out. So the rain combo realized where I noticed Sableye can be active rain dance setter, also overwrite Whimsicott Sunny Day.
Or you can use Mega Banette but I don’t want to waste a Mega slot.

freshmartin-21 OP

Yes, I don’t want to worry about the fake out. So for this team first turn Swagger is everything. 🤣
