Summary
In Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments this announcement requests community help improving a beginner team. Replies recommend swapping Gengar for Basculegion, using sash or scarf, adjusting moves like protect, roost, aqua jet, flip turn and disable, and pairing with Garch, Kingambit or Rotom to improve synergy and tournament readiness.
I started playing champions a few days ago and have just been changing up my team from the basic pikachu one you can choose.
Pretty much seeing a mon that would be a better fit I'll try it out and expand on it.
Probably ended up with the most basic team but I have no idea how to further improve, expand upon or replace.
So i figured why not get embarrassed and ask for help with my probably fairly basic team!

The item choices are good but moves not rly
It would be helpful to know any other pokemon you have!
For example there are a lot better options than gengar on this team
Such as Basculegion
I just grab them from the games, only missing mega floette
Roost should be protect, garch can replace any of its moves with protect but prob swords dance although that might still be useful. Gengar doesn't rly make sense here but if you are gonna keep it then protect and disable would be better than taunt and dazzling gleam
Ah ok! I'd recommend switching Gengar out for Basculegion then
As well as the move suggestions above!
Basc is easy enough to use, and you can either chuck scarf or sash on him
Most kingambits have kowtow, but this set is fine tbh
I used to run it but I never really had a need for it, replaced it with protect
Seeing as you have sash gambit, a scarf basc will have aqua jet, flip turn, wave crash and last respects
I actually kinda like rotom here tbh
Or you can put chople berry on gambit and play sash basc. Up to you! In which case replace flip turn with protect
Meshes well with garch so you can replace stomping tantrum instead, which means that you have fake out pressure swords dance
I've been shiny hunting basculin a bit, had most of them shiny already so feels wrong sticking a basic fish in it
Sounds better yeah!
I mean you have Zard for that
But fair enough
This is just my input haha
Mostly had gengar as a fallback mega but it's not been needed much
yeah it's only really useful on gimmick teams
Your one is just a Zard Y goodstuff pile
Which is good haha
Just went in without reading up meta stuff, figured I'd I'd just play and adapt it'd end up as meta anyway
Thanks so much by the way
no worries!
Garchomp, kinggambit and gengar are pretty much just holdovers from the pikachu team
Ye, but having garch do over half to almost your entire team but two pokemon is a bit worrysome
Rotom means that its only sneasler and kingambit so its easier to work around with
You have protect and you also don't have to click EQ all the time anyways
Or you can just play stomping
I do see your point but it rarely poses a problem to me
Fair
My team had literally one pokemon who mamo actually could hit or do damage to
And that was incin, who had sitrus meaning it would go above half
So I was just basing it off my experience
Ah yeah
Yeah I've earthquaked my own metagross a LOT haha
I think the only mons on my team who resist it are sinis and talonflame
Idk, I don't rly use garch much tbh
Prefer mamo when I need an eq spammer cuz he's cool, has priority and immune to intimidate
Also ice ground is just freaking insane typing coverage, just for example on your current tean only yard isn't weak to one of em and icical crash still 2 shots most yards from my experience
It also 2 shots basc, and its only real issue is that it kinda forces you to run sash else you are just gonna die in one hit
I do have way too many shiny swinubs in go that are going to waste, that's at least a bit better than shiny garchomp
