Summary
On Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments members discuss whether Mega Swampert, Pelipper, and four other Pokémon can function as a rain team. The announcement covers team viability, rain-specific roles like Surf Pelipper, Grimmsnarl screens, Mega Swampert versus Mega Scizor choices, item suggestions and matchup considerations to help builders improve strategy.
Mega swam, peli, arch, basc, incin, and sinisctha
I'm wondering if these 6 pokemon work together in a team, and if they do how I should build them as I've never built a rain team before so I don't know the weakness's and what to cover for.
Any help would be much appreciated.

dont have scizor
Kingambit ?
Have that,
Use him over scizor
Complete
Nice team too
I dont recommend surf pelipper
as well as I dont recommend mega scizor actually
It's barely changing anything about his playstyle except for damage output, so just put a life orb on this dude and you will have the same results without using a mega slot on him
can u explain the strategy of how to play the team a lil bit
Surf pelipper is for arch
Funny tech
It's only clicking twind wide guard hurricane anyw
idk, i feel like weatherball is very important
Also bulk on mega scizor is absolutely massive what are you on about
I feel like metagross would be better here
I tell the owner of the team that too and he won’t do it for some reason lol
Y'all don't get it
Im saying that mega swampert is much more important than mega scizor
but you do want both in the same match quite often, but if that is that case its often lie scizor isnt holding an item at all
I think he dies pretty easy
Im a mega scizor hater
Neither do I
Uh no what
lmao
Scizor comes in like
Two mus
what is mus
matchups
Match ups
isn't this team a bit too passive? I don't understand the point of using screen grimmsnarl on a rain team, but im a noob so maybe yall know better
I dont see a matchup where you prefer mega-ing scizor over swampert rn
The point of rain is to support the rain sweepers
So
Starting with Grimmsnarl Swampert to get a screen or two up, then switching to pelipper once you mega is very viable
can i ask why we don't have basc in this team
why do we lead with swampert if i rain isn't up?
It's redundant because you have swampert
swampert is taking its place here
playing both is very good into soe matchups, but also very bad for some others
what is soe
i see
some, i had a typo
So you can switch rain in when you mega evolve. You can protect the first turn to set up screens
Grimmsnarl is just generally useful
Got it, and what role does sneasler and scizor play? i dont have scizor so i need a reaplcement
yea, like lightscreen protect
parting shot into pelipper, mega and kill
Sneasler is just more support
And I'd play Metagross over Scizor
Is using incinroar on a rain team generally a bad idae or does it work?
Having that strong steel type attacker is really nice
it can work
no meta gross either any other replacement?
i like Gambit in rain teams, since more and more farigiraf and sinistchas are calced to OHKO swampert now
hmmmm
Not really. What other steel types do you have?
king gambit
and thats about it i think
I don't like gambit in rain
i have tickets i can try to gamble for a metagross in recruitments
what is the team even looking like rn?
can i send u guys a screenshot of my box?
sure
go for it! Put it here
i have raichu and i see some ppl use it on rainteams but idk if it fits here
i dislike mega raichu
Raichu could work if you're having trouble into Zard Y
But that's about all it's good for
oh nvm im blind
i do have metagross
lmao
do i use normal or mega
oh epic haha
absolutely mega
do we play archaludon if we use metagross?
bc
why is the mega so good
i stil dont get it
Yes
Insane stats
Tough claws
Greta moves
Great type
what does tough claws do
they share alot of weaknesses
Discord sent us an expired image link.
Boost power of contact moves
by 30%
or 33
i assume if i use mega metagross i dont bring swampert
yes
yeah i was looking at that too
lots of overlapping weaknesses
There's not that many
Like just ground
And I wouldn't even use sneasler
i mean
wait
this outspeeds garchomp and OHKOs 100%

but do we even need so much atk?
maybe a little less and more into bulk
yes lol
I run my metagross to do exactly that
I don't play rain, but I play metagross/raichu Y
also icepunch on swampert? probably
its important coverage
Yes
what does foul play do and why do we have surf and wide guard on peli isn't the standard protect and weather ball?
you can choose what you think you want for the team
I'd personally go with wide guard and weather ball
The 6 I would pick for rain is this:

I like sinitcha
It's very good
what builds and ev stats if u dont mind sharing
0 Atk Tough Claws Metagross-Mega Ice Punch vs. 4 HP / 4 Def Garchomp: 212-252 (115.2 - 136.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
so uhm theoriticaly we dont need any investment into metagross
jk
I haven't built rain, but I'll make the paste quickly
thank you for your help
do we want to use energyball on sinistcha? 👀
its seen some rise in usage bc its much more likely to OHKO opposing mega swamperts
isn't macha gatcha always preferred
yes, bc it heals you and can burn
Of course! This is how I would build rain:
https://pokepast.es/7ada3b40ff09d000
72+ SpA Sinistcha-Masterpiece Matcha Gotcha vs. 136 HP / 12 SpD Swampert-Mega: 168-204 (87.5 - 106.2%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
but it can miss and wont OHKO for sure, even if you invest into its SpA
The metagross set is a little different, but it fits the team better
72+ SpA Sinistcha-Masterpiece Energy Ball vs. 136 HP / 12 SpD Swampert-Mega: 256-304 (133.3 - 158.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
thats why some started playing energyball, to counter the big fish
heeeeeell no
even if you don't one shot
you recover all the damage they did with ice punch haha
im in a game rn let me finish it and ill take a look
but i can miss and if you dont OHKO it you will get OHKO-ed
bet
no you wont
it's worth the miss chance
matcha gotcha is just much more useful in general
I wouldn't play energy ball instead just for swampert
i see
i get it on sinistcha
but nobody will change my mind on energyball farigiraf
i have a question if we run screens on grimmsnarl is wideguard still worth it
since screens cut damage
That's why I put protect on peli instead of wide guard haha
oops should have checked ur team sheet first before asking questions lol
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9championsvgc2026regmb-2639367485-9mxw4swhfpu87x5o65ndo8c0o4axxuepw
nono it's ok haha
my dumbass accidentally used a physic move into king gambit cause i fat fingered
about to lose this game 😔
unfort
nvm they missed rock tomb
we are back chat
lmao
why do ppl run sash on basc
okay i won let me check ur team
so he doesn't die in one hit?
true but i thought the standard was a damage boosting item
The user turns the target's strength against it. The higher the target's Attack stat, the greater the damage this move inflicts.
how do i use foul play, ive never used it on any of my mons before
im so excited for this big boy
Discord sent us an expired image link.
if it's on a rain team yeah
mostly you see scarf or sash
to beat other metagross mostly
it beats physical attackers hard
so use it on mons with high physical attack right?
seems straight forward
TR over shadow ball on sinistcha? i assume its to reverse trick room against other speed control teams right?
yeah!
i always find it weird when tailwind and trickroom is on the same team but thats just me lol
That, and out of rain swampert is pretty slow haha
They are both good in different situations!
I assume I don't want to play this team In TR and only use it to regain speed control correct?
why is snarl max speed? is it to outspeed other grimmsnarls? does that change any key interactions?
Exactly correct!
uhhh yeah so you can go before other grimms haha
does that change any key interactions?
idk lol I don't use grimm much
Last two questions
The archaludon has some weird EV spreads EVs: 32 HP / 1 Def / 5 SpA / 25 SpD / 3 Spe , I assume the original creator did his maths on this so archlaudon can survivie key threats and KO specific mons.
What are the main weaknesse's to this team/ mons i should be careful of?
sorry for all the questions and thank you for taking the time to help me
Yeah the EVs I didn't creat mostly haha
You need to be careful of Zard - position well and you can win!
this team kinda beats everything else haha
sounds good
time to get masterball, thanks for ur help
you got it man!
They don’t need investment in attack
Bulk is just more useful
Swampert needs max speed cause even though it does have swift swim, it’s still normally pretty slow
