Summary
In Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments this announcement shares a Metagross rain team that reached Masters and asks for tournament prep feedback. Suggestions include switching Pelipper to Tailwind, testing Wave Crash on Basculegion, Taunt on Grimmsnarl, Stomping Tantrum on Garchomp, and choosing Megas more strictly to improve matchups.
This is the team that got me to masters and I'm looking to see if there should be any changes in it, I'm joining a tourney soon and I would really like to hear your guys's inputs! Please and thank you

I’d probably only make a few small changes, since the team already clearly works if it got you to Master.
- I’d try Tailwind on Pelipper over Protect.
This is probably the biggest one. Right now Basculegion is the only Pokémon really abusing rain speed. Tailwind would let Metagross, Garchomp, Venusaur, and even Basculegion pressure faster teams more consistently. - I’d test Wave Crash over Liquidation on Basculegion.
Liquidation is safer, but Wave Crash gives you way more damage. In a tournament, sometimes the stronger hit matters more than playing safe. - I’d consider Taunt on Grimmsnarl over Parting Shot.
Parting Shot is nice, but Trick Room and setup can be annoying for this team. Taunt gives you a cleaner way to stop Trick Room, screens, setup, or passive support mons. - I’d think about Stomping Tantrum over Earthquake on Garchomp.
Earthquake is strong, but it can be awkward because most of your team doesn’t want to take it. Stomping Tantrum is easier to click beside Metagross, Grimmsnarl, Venusaur, or Basculegion. - I’d be stricter about which Mega you choose each game.
Metagross is probably the default, but Venusaur looks better into rain, Water/Ground cores, and matchups where bulk + Giga Drain matters more. Picking the right Mega at preview probably improves the team more than changing half the team.
I appreciate you taking your time in reviewing it and giving tips, and you make very valid points because I DO see myself losing games simply because I'm not faster
The megas I use are dependent on matchups, so there is that going for me
Is there any stat distributions I should change for some of them? I'm thinking of changing metagross and venusaur to be more bulkier but I'd like to hear your input anyway!
I think Parting Shot is just fine
Most trickroom players use the girafe, so taunt wont work on them, or pokémon like mimikyu often hold the mental herb
I recommend when playing against giraf next to torkoal to get rid as fast as possible of that giraf by leading with strong attackers like Bascu, Garchomp or Metagross
I would also do a little EV rewriting and use Icepunch instead of Thunderpunch
One of your biggest threads is Garchomp in this meta and being able to outspeed and ohko him is very important
of course you also have a matchup problem against kingambit, but I barely see any possible answers in your team except brick break or low kick grimmsnarl maybe, but thats a weird move to use on grimms
