Both gold and silver had their best weeks of 2026!
-
Gold had its best week since January, and silver its best since February
Gold traded above $4,300 for the first time since mid-June, with December futures printing as high as $4,411.70 on Friday morning. Silver cleared $64. Across the week, the two metals added roughly $2.2 trillion in combined market value. -
China bought more gold in July than in any month since 2023
The People's Bank of China added 640,000 ounces, about 19.9 tonnes, in the last month, taking official reserves to 76,080,000 ounces, or 2,366 tonnes. That is the 21st consecutive month of buying and 60 tonnes added so far this year.
Monthly Chinese purchases of gold have climbed since February, from 30,000 ounces to 640,000, while gold's trading range fell from $4,332-5,589 in January to $3,992-4,168 in July. They buy more when it gets cheaper. BMO's analysts think that pace puts China past US holdings inside five years.

Real-world assets tripled inside DeFi while the rest of it shrank
CoinShares and Token Terminal published a joint report Thursday: deposits of tokenized real-world assets into lending platforms and decentralized exchanges went from $2.3 billion to $7.4 billion over the past year, while total DeFi deposits fell about 15%. Spot volume in tokenized assets rose 220% as crypto-native volume dropped roughly 70%. Gold holds the largest share of that tokenized spot volume. -
A million people now hold tokenized stock
As of Friday, https://t.co/NB1ZiPLxlQ counts 1,020,510 tokenized equity holders, up 33% in eight days and up from 58,999 a year ago. Total on-chain RWA holders reached 1,622,570, with equities at 62.8% of them and commodities second at 256,264. Equities got the distribution first because a share is easy to wrap and easy to explain. The gap between those two numbers is the opportunity, not the verdict. -
Tokenized gold and silver became margin
On Wednesday, Ondo Finance made GLDon and SLVon eligible as collateral for perpetual futures on Ondo Perps for traders outside the United States, alongside the tokenized S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 exposure it already accepted. Metal that used to sit still now backs a position while it sits. Someone has to accept an asset as collateral before it does any work. -
BlackRock built tokenized cash for stablecoin issuers
Monday brought BSTBL, an on-chain share class of a Treasury liquidity fund with BNY Mellon as transfer agent, and BRSRV, a multi-chain fund with Securitize built for daily dividend reinvestment. Both are designed to qualify as eligible reserve assets for permitted US payment stablecoin issuers under the GENIUS Act. A filing to extend BRSRV to Solana went in the same day. -
Korea started buying its own gold
The Bank of Korea said Monday it will buy domestically refined gold from LS MnM, with Korea Zinc expected to supply as well, its first physical purchases since 2013. It is also weighing storage at home rather than at the Bank of England.
It was a good week for gold and silver, and RWAs hit some key milestones. Remember: tokenization is inevitable.
