this argument falls apart because it treats every adult decision like it's the same thing when it clearly isn't. voting, driving, taking out loans, joining the military, and dating all have different rules and different risks, which is why we already have different age requirements for different things. so saying "either raise the age for everything or accept that 18 year olds are fully mature" is a false comparison. and most people criticizing large age gap relationships aren't saying a 20 year old can't make decisions at all - they're pointing out that huge differences in life experience, money, status, and influence can create power imbalances. being legally able to consent doesn't automatically mean every relationship is healthy or equitable. "they're both adults" answers whether it should be legal, but it doesn't answer whether the relationship dynamic is actually a good one.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should. 18 is legal but 18 and 30 or 18 and 40 is straight up weird. It's basically saying "I'd date kids if the age of consent was lower."
