Genuine question, why don’t the hezeb people revolt against Naïm Qassem when they are losing everything and that there’s no way Hezbollah is going to win ?

It’s so crazy that people are losing their homes and still supporting Hezbollah

Sur Got hit again even though it is no Threat to Israel

Yet again, sur was hit. Sur is mostly amal and doesn't have a big hezb presence, yet it has been normalized to hit it over and over again as if it's the new Dahiyah. Israel lose soldiers and put their angers on a city that has nothing to do with their losses. The dirtiest way to fight a war, punishing civilains that have nothing to do with the war.

Lebanon War Debate: Civilian Safety and Solidarity

lsraeI asserted its war is with hezboIIah only, not with us, yet it targets mostly us; civilians & paramedics, this necessitates a collective punishing response of us joining the war against the lsraeIi invasion in south.

lsraeI always claimed it is fighting only hezboIIah, not us, that is we are not an enemy or party in this war, which is what many of us find acceptable as a fuckin colonial entity fights an lranian proxy, let them fuck each others to death.

Yet the main lsraeIi target is not hezb, it is us; civilians, paramedics, journalists, and even army soldiers. We should realize They made us a party and enemy by targeting and killing our families, we cant just sit idle and pretend it is not happening or they cant be lying.

The most proper punishing retaliation is us volunteering to join the fight against the lsraeIi invasion in south (intentionally) along side hezboIIah, the point isnt military effectiveness — obviously we are not militarily match to either hezboIIah or lsraeI, the point is invalidating the lsraeIi belief and terror doctrine of “we kill more lebanese families = they turn more against HezboIIah & shias” until the ultimate goal of erupting civil war where lebanese people kill each others & lsraeI get a chance for a free resistanceless land grab like syria.

The worst decision we ever made was rewarding this policy — many of us (including myself) wasnt aware of this b/c of how much we hate hezboIIah, i (and many others) unintentionally incentivized lsraeI to keep murdering more of our families. despite how much we hate hezboIIah, we should have demonstrated that this policy would only result in the opposite of their desired outcome and break it for good.

Lebanese Harvard Speech on Lebanon and Palestine

A Lebanese Harvard graduate's speech on Lebanon and Palestine

"Lebanese graduate Leen Ezzeddine delivered a powerful speech at Harvard Medical School’s 2026 graduation ceremony, reflecting on war, displacement, and the unequal realities shaping access to education and medicine.
She recalled learning medicine in the US while a US missile destroyed her family home in southern Lebanon, contrasting her experience with that of Palestinian and Lebanese medical students forced to study under drones and amid bombed hospitals.
'We were told to stay silent as Gaza unfolded before us,' she said, accusing universities of promoting principles such as health equity and human rights only when they are 'politically convenient'.”

Could Israel Resume Bombing Beirut and Dahieh?

Only a matter of time now before Israel resumes bombing Dahieh/Beirut

The general understanding was that as long as their towns and cities weren't hit, they would stop bombing Beirut/Dahieh.

They're "allowed" to attack Israeli soldiers in Lebanon.

But now, with Hezbollah launching barrages of rockets on Israeli towns and villages "unexpectedly" and Bibi getting political backlash in Israel for it, they'll respond as we expect:

  1. Bomb Dahieh
  2. Double down on their land invasion throughout the south to "stop the rockets"

Not a matter of what's right or wrong, but that's the same pattern/story every time.

US Sanctions Target Lebanese State Not Just Militia

US sanctions just targeted Hezbollah’s real shield — the Lebanese state itself

The U.S. Treasury didn’t sanction a militia last week. It sanctioned a system.

Nine people were designated last Thursday — Hezbollah parliamentarians Hassan Fadlallah, Ibrahim al-Mousawi, Hussein al-Hajj Hassan, and Mohammed Fneish, but also Amal Movement security figures Ahmad Baalbaki and Ahmad Safawi, and an Iranian diplomat accused of coordinating Hezbollah’s regional support networks.

But what is most significant is the designation of Colonel Samer Hamadi, who heads Lebanese Army Intelligence in the southern suburbs of Beirut — Hezbollah’s urban stronghold — and Brigadier General Khattar Nasser al-Din, who directs the Analysis Department at Lebanese General Security, the agency that controls passports and border movement. Neither commands combat troops. Both commanded information.

For years, Washington sanctioned Hezbollah as though the group were a militia operating at Lebanon’s margins. It is not. Hezbollah survives because the Lebanese state — parts of its parliament, its security services, its administrative apparatus — has sheltered it, laundered its influence, and normalized its parallel authority. This is the architecture Qassem Soleimani built: militia fused with mafia, weapons protected by patronage, coercion normalized through institutional complicity.

Sanctioning Hezbollah members of parliament is not new. Sanctioning Lebanese Army Intelligence officers is.

Lebanon’s Recovery: A Community Rant on Division

Rant: We are cooked and I see no possible way for Lebanon to recover in our lifetime..

1- We are cooked i honestly lost hope and I don't think we will ever recover i believe we lost the chance to recover and rebuild our society... our society is deeply divided in every single thing we don't even agree that we should be loyal to Lebanon.

2- Israel is a terrorist genocidal state and we should know better than always giving the benefit of the doubt whenever they kill civilians.

3- Hezbollah is also a terrorist group that is the biggest traitor to Lebanon ever they allied with assad who occupied us longer than Israel and brutalized us more than Israel and they have Lebanese syrian and Iranian blood in their hands.

Feeling More Fluent in English Than Arabic?

Does anyone else feel ashamed that their english is better than their arabic?

I write everything in english, I even think in english, Ive always studied both in school and even talk to everyone around me in regular fos7a but I cant really formulate thoughts in arabic because i just dont know the words for it. (its ironic considering arabic has millions of words over english)

While i understand english is the lingua franca, I just wish I was able to think and “live” in our mother tongue.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Lebanon Debate: Hezbollah, Israel and National Unity

Reminder that Hezbollah holds as much blame as Israel for our destruction

This is beyond religions and sects. Mafi ana sunni w shi3i w marouni in this. We were all dragged into this, & it's our duty to speak up & end Hezbollah's influence for good before we turn into Gaza 2.0

Hezb's explosive drones don't mean shit when theyre only causing us more death & annihilation. There's no victory to be celebrated here. Thousands are dying or losing their homes every moment, & there's no force in the world to save them from Israel's genocidal wrath. Hezbollah knows this yet still chooses to continue fighting a losing war - 3a 7seb 7ayetna w 2ahelna w watanna

Hezb needs to fall, or we'll fall with it eventually. Hezb supporters are too high on captagon to be reasoned with, or to believe in a strong Lebanese state. They only want to fight, until 5 ni2at mo7talle become 60 diya3, & 60 diya3 become khat asfar, & who knows what else will come next

There's no nuance here, no national dialog to be had or "selm ahli" to "preserve." Either we cut this Iranian parasite from our country or we lose jnoub & our "selm ahli" with it too

The one who instigates needless wars & labels us as "zios" IS the threat to jnoub & our unity, not just Israel

Can Ottoman Ancestry Qualify You for Turkish Citizenship?

Turkish citizenship through Ottoman descent

Hey everyone! I’m a Lebanese from a well-known Sunni family. (I identify as Sunni in the sense of community, i.e., culturally, tribally, and politically speaking, never religiously (I am an atheist)). I always knew that in the late 1880’s and early 1900’s I’ve had 100% ethnic Anatolian (Turkish) ancestors. Stemming from the Ottoman Empire. We even have intact Ottoman documents from 19th century. I am neither a Turkish citizen nor my parents or my grandparents are. However, with the right support, I am likely capable of genealogically proving the existence of my Turkish ancestors by indisputable documentary evidence. The question is would this entitle me to a Turkish citizenship? I am fully aware that it would be tough and time-consuming but I am just psychologically attached to it. I have some sense of “Turkish pride” in me and I love Atatürk. So Turkish citizenship would boost my morale.
P.S. I appreciate in advance productive, helpful feedback relevant to my inquiry.

Is This Is Beirut Truly Independent Media?

What do you think of This is Beirut?

They claim to be an “independent” media source but a quick scroll shows otherwise.

Overuse of Israeli and Lebanese flags side by side, it is almost like part of their brand identity.

Around 90% of their posts are anti‑Hezbollah, anti‑Iran, etc.

One of their reporters, account named “selenaryan” is literally Israeli with photos next to IDF tanks/missiles used in Gaza during the genocide war.

They’ve conducted interviews with Israeli ambassadors months before any direct negotiation talks even began.

Legally, since they have a US office, interviewing Israelis or employing Israeli journalists is allowed but ETHICALLY though… “This is Beirut” calling itself “Independent”? Really??..

Is This Is Beirut Truly Independent Media?

Lebanon-Israel Talks: Rethinking US Mediation

The US can't be trusted as a mediator...

Okay, I think most of the points I will make about how the US approached the Lebanese-Israeli conflict will be self-evident.

They're clearly not an impartial mediator; they favor and defer to Israel, no matter how misguided their approach is. Most of the time, their approach is counterproductive to the ostensible goal of disarming Hezbollah, which I think both the US and the Lebanese government agree upon.

But if anyone's been following wider regional news, you'd realize how this loser of a president just demanded that all countries in the Middle East, namely the Gulf states and Pakistan, and obviously would bounce back to Syria and Lebanon, immediately normalize relations with Israel for no reason other than that he will sign a concessionary deal with Iran, which would leave the US's position in the Middle East weaker.

Clearly, the US, at least under this administration, is not a serious country. Honestly, I think putting all our hopes on the US forcing Israel to abide by the future agreement or on the US helping us resolve the simultaneous issues of Israel and Hezbollah's disarmament is deeply misguided.

I don't think the US can be trusted either in its intentions, in the content of its actions, or even in the intelligence of the people in this administration or of its ambassador to Lebanon.

Now that said, I'm sure most people who've seen me post here know that my position is completely against Hezbollah and I'm in favor of immediate disarmament.

At the same time, I don't see that the current government's approach of simply trusting the Americans and keeping the US as the sole mediator for direct negotiations is a good idea.

We should immediately demand, at least in return for the Lebanese concession to hold direct negotiations with Israel, that they take place in Paris under French mediation, which is closer to an impartial mediator between both sides than the utterly incompetent US government, which is also impartial to Israel, no matter how misguided and counterproductive that is for US and s...

Can French-Educated Students Take Philosophy in English?

Can i do the philosophy exam in english even tho i'm french educated?

As the title states, i'm a french educated student in an official school, and since the national exams are on the way, i want to squeeze everysingle point i can get from each exam and pass with a good enough grade to enter a university.

I asked my philosophy teacher and she confirmed i can do it in english. But a little more confirmation doesn't hurt, no ? :)

If you have any idea about it please do not hesitate and share it . Thank you!

Honest question as a foreigner

Is the Lebanese government planning on fighting back the occupiers? Or is it independent factions like Hezbollah?

Is the military fractured? Or in support of the government?

Is the current government compromised?

Like what the actual plan against the occupiers from the South?

Lebanon Liberation Day: Beyond the 2000 Withdrawal

The Mirage of Liberation: Re-evaluating May 25 and Lebanon’s Unbroken Cycle of War

Every year on May 25, Lebanon marks "Liberation Day," commemorating the 2000 Israeli withdrawal. Traditionally framed as a singular triumph of armed resistance, this narrative is fiercely maintained by Hezballah to justify its independent (Iranian) arsenal. Yet, as Lebanon endures the catastrophic ruin of the ongoing war, a clear-eyed look at history, devoid of romanticism and ideology, reveals that this foundational myth was built on a dangerous, incomplete truth.

**The 2000 Withdrawal: A Complex Geopolitical scene, Not a Singular Victory**

While we have to admit that Hezb's asymmetric warfare accelerated the IDF’s departure, treating it as the sole cause ignores the decisive geopolitical forces at play:

- Israeli Domestic Politics: By the late 1990s, the "Four Mothers" movement and widespread domestic exhaustion of the futility of engaging in external armed conflict, turned the occupation into a political liability. Ehud Barak won the 1999 election on an explicit, unilateral promise to withdraw.

- US Foreign Policy & Syrian Objections: Washington was actively reshaping its Middle East policy, leaning heavily on regional stability and diplomatic re-alignments that made a prolonged occupation of southern Lebanon counterproductive to broader American strategic interests. The sought an Israeli exit to remove all pretexts for the Syrian occupation and reduce IRGC influence in the region. Recognizing this threat to their hegemony, Hafez Al Assad and the IRGC actively opposed the unilateral withdrawal, promptly concocting the "Shebaa Farms" affair to manufacture a permanent pretext for Hezballah’s "resistance" status.

-The Domestic Lebanese Climate: A cross-sectarian, anti-Syrian sentiment was already brewing. The collective Lebanese demand for sovereignty created a parallel political pressure that made the status quo occupation unsustainable.

Therefore, oversimplifying the events of 2000, birthed a fatal thesis: that an IRGC-funded, non-state armed force, part of a broader "moumena3a axis", is the o...

Hezbollah and the Iran-Brokered Ceasefire Debate

Mneimneh: If Hezbollah respects the Iran-brokered ceasefire, it will prove to be a tool in the hands of Iran. Do you think Hezbollah should refuse the ceasefire?

Inevitable disclaimers because we are going to change the subject as usual:

  • To those who are going to criticize Mneimneh: He gave thiqa to a government half of whose ministers are bankers so I don't support him AT ALL, that's no the point
  • To those who are going to say "no Hezbollah is not subservient to Iran": Hezbollah itself said it was, and this is obvious, so no need to try to prove the contrary
  • To those who think Israel is cute and doesn't want to hurt us and is only defending itself against Hezbollah: Check the facts

Again, the point is what Mneimneh said: If Hezbollah respects the Iran-brokered ceasefire, it will prove to be a tool in the hands of Iran. Do you think Hezbollah should refuse the ceasefire?
