Resumo
In the Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments server, members are actively collaborating on building beginner-friendly teams for the Masters rank in VGC Doubles. This discussion covers essential team composition, move set advice for Pokémon like Charizard Y and Venusaur, and how to adapt older meta teams for current competitive play. It is a great resource for trainers looking to refine their strategies and learn about specific move interactions.
Carrying this over from #general but I'm trying to put a team together that can help me grind to Masters in Doubles.
I know I want to use:
- Charizard Y
- Venusaur
- Toxapex
Looking for moveset advice/using this thread as a depository of my thoughts.
Kingambit and sylveon could slot in here nicely
Just as basic picks

Shoutout to banjo for this banger
It has all the EVs too
This looks pretty nice
Just keep in mind, use stomping tantrum over iron head on garchomp
That was a misclick
Ngl tho you could change ape for gambit
That’s up to you though
Banjo explained lots of stuff ape fills
Though I forgot all of them
Yeah
Dragon claw chomp doesn’t get the ko on bulky dragons
Earth power venu doesn’t ohko arch
With helping hand they do
I do worry a bit about toxapex ease of use but I'm willing to try I guess
If you don’t like it you could try swapping it for gambit/sylveon
But toxapex is the best option here if you know how to use it
Covers for alot of stuff
Good thing I have access to all these dudes
I see some people rocking dengo too
https://pokepast.es/eb... Stealing this from cybertron
Oop

Any changes I should make for modern meta?
Have you checked the date lol
Like when he featured this team
It looks a bit outdated
Or I’m dumb
Oh it's from six months ago...
:(
I just spent my tickets making it too
Maybe it's still good!
Just needs a little refining
What would you change
tbf, a Yard/Mega Froslass team just won a regional
and Cybertron featured it in his latest video
Just sneasler and rotom tbh
And change the bulldoze on chomp
Just use the paste I sent you its pretty good
What would you suggest for both
Also what does stomping tantrum do exactly
Just a 75 base power single target attack move
Doubles in power if It failed to be used last turn but that rarely happens
Ahh
Who's banjo btw
Sorry so many questions
Really good player in this server
Apparently made it to champion tier once
Ooh
Okay fine I'll use it
Do they have any tips on how to use it
Not really
I just asked them to make me zardy team and this is what they came up with
Alright
I will uh
Do my best
It's one thing to rip a team it's another learning how to use it
Guess that comes with time
Do you think we could ping them and ask for tips 👀
Yes
There's two banjos so idk which one
Screw you I was about to do that lol
Thankies
I did some EV, Item and Move changes, while also keeping the playstyle very similar
I don't know about rotom wash in this meta, so I removed him for now
Let me know what you think about bulky ChariY, Lorb Venu, Sash Poison Point Sneasler and the small Incin changes

For our last Pokémon I had mega Aero in mind, which is very good into opposing sun, but makes your matchup against rain teams very hard, since now both our megas really dislike rain
ChariY lives Rock Slide from Lorb Garchomp and still outspeeds max base 60 speed Pokémon
with 198 stab sun fire moves still dealing alot of damage
Venu survives one Hyper Voice from Mence, while outspeeding modest pelipper, without sun
With Lorb Helping Hands it OHKO's quite anything
159hp makes it optimized for Lorb, getting 1% less recoil, which is a nice touch
I replaced Bulldoze with Stomping, since both bulldoze and earthquake deal way less dmg in grassy terrain, and rillaboom has very high usage, i also decreased the atk just a tiny bit, to survive opposing scarf chomps dragon claw
Incin has enough defensive stats to survive sneaslers close combat, with intimidate, also survives pelippers weatherball (i believe, its an old calc)
with 86 speed is 1 point faster than alot of incins, winning you the fakeout, while also being able to throat chop opposing incins, so their partin shot fails
Just woke up to see the changes, thank you for all the effort
I wasn't too sure about using Toxapex, I could try Aerodactyl and see how that goes
Though rotom might be good for countering rain? I'm not sure
What would you recommend running on aero
Sneasler takes up the sash slot so maybe I'll run rotom til I'm sure
mine has been rock slide
dual wingbeat
ice fang
tailwind
has been very decent, but also a bit unconsistent, since all those moves can miss
I have an optimize EV'd aero in champions
I can check the Ev spread later
I just double checked
1hp Ev
3 def Ev to survive scarf chomp 1v1s for 100%
your chance to ohko opposing chomps is very low, with just 12,5%
so I either chipping their garchomps down with fake out or helping hand support from chariY
you also need the helping hand boost to OHKO other bulky chariY with rock slide
30+ Atk Garchomp Helping Hand Rock Slide vs. 32 HP / 32 Def Charizard-Mega-Y: 196-232 (105.9 - 125.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
You will have to click helping hand on chariY quite a few times, but it is a nice way to play ChariY
Atleast I like it

You could add either mega Raichu's for your last mega
Raichu can delay its mega with fake out and protect, to keep lightning rod active, giving your team an electric immunity, meanwhile hitting the rain team Pokémon for super strong damage with Zap Cannon + Focus Blast, like Pelipper, Politoed, Archaludon or Basculegion
With Mega X, you create a terrain, that gives your Garchomp opportunities to use earthquake at its full power, overwriting psyspam and grassy terrain, halfing earthquakes damage
You also block opposing venusaurs sleep powder, while hitting chariY for super effective damage
So its good into both rain and sun
Nice
I might add Raichu just to counter rain
X or Y?
Probably Y
I feel like Y is a bit better against rain
Meanwhile X is a bit better against sun
What would you suggest?
I haven't run into many other sun teams so far
I have more experience using Y so let's try that for now
Go for it
https://pokepast.es/c6c979daf1a8d055 im realizing this team is pretty similar to what I have mine set up to do, do you think it's worth trying this team out to see if it's better or just stick to what I have now?
