Why The Trifect Episode 1 Took 3 Years
Summary
The Fort Tres announcement explains why The Trifect Episode 1 took three years, with most of the effort going into building a sustainable editing pipeline. It shares a production timeline starting in October 2022 and details challenges including switching to DaVinci Resolve, burnout, developing the story, and real-life difficulties.
Why Ep. 1 Took 3 Years
I’m going to make a video after Ep. 1 drops on SolArcto explaining it.
Very close to release.
Despite what people might think.
I have been doing tons of work on it
- # (while balancing work + other duties)
My ADHD distracts me, but I still try to lock in.
I know it's almost done because I'm getting that same feeling I had when wrapping up Last Laugh.
My Realization
I knew The Trifect would never be fully obtainable or consistent without a powerful editing pipeline.
I could have rushed Episode 1 out in a couple of weeks/months.
Held only together by duct tape and pipe dreams, except reproducing that each time would have been unsustainable long-term.
There's regret I have about what I could've done differently.
Most of the work over these 3 years went into creating this editing pipeline.
Commissioning artists, working with new people, and the scope of the series expanding, it managed to take longer.
Timeline Snapshot
- Production began after Otiose in October 2022
- Otiose started as the prototype for the series.
- Future episodes were recorded, and many things happened, while the vision was still unclear.
- Those early episode recordings got ~~scrapped~~, they just weren’t that compelling.
The Main Reasons
- Switched from PowerDirector → DaVinci Resolve
-
(big learning curve)
- Burnout after Last Laugh + new videos + BtS stuff
- Real-life stuff (mainly depression)
- Developing concepts & story
- Lull periods from some of us.
- Creating a full series is hard.
