Walrus Memory Security Patch and Migration

Summary

The Upside announces that Walrus Memory uploads have resumed after a security upgrade that patched an encryption bypass. All existing memories were migrated to a new secure contract, but copies on the previous contract remain exposed until deleted. Community members should remove pre-migration data and review sensitive stored information using the provided deletion guide.

Hi . Uploads to Walrus Memory have been resumed, following a security upgrade. This patched a bug that made it possible to bypass the encryption of stored memories. All existing memories have been migrated onto a new, secure contract.

Important note: A copy of memories written before the migration remains in the previous contract, where they are exposed to the original bug. We recommend removing all pre-migration data on the previous contract, and reviewing any sensitive data you may have stored. A guide to removing pre-migration data is available here.

These pre-migration memories will remain on the previous contract until they are deleted (or expire).

Thanks for your patience while we worked through this, and thanks to @cryptanna for reporting the bug.
