Baxcalibur VGC Team Build: Strategy & Analysis

Summary

The Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments server presents a new competitive team build centered around Baxcalibur. This strategy utilizes Grimmsnarl for screens and Talonflame for speed control to maximize bulk and utility. The post invites community feedback on the team's viability and potential improvements, such as the inclusion of Rillaboom or Sinistcha, making it a great resource for players looking to refine their VGC strategies.

Baxcalibur: The man, the myth, the legend. Ice gives super effective coverage on a ton of mons, and dragon gives amazing neutral STAB. It gets a priority ice move that doesn't make contact, and glaive rush downside can be ignored by a protect or ice shard (granted that whims/farig isnt on the field). Very bulky, very strong, middling 85 speed.

Grimm: Screens! EVEN MORE BULK! FAKE OUT AND PARTING SHOT! INCINEROAR IF HE EXPERIMENTED IN COLLEGE WITH THE GAYS AND THE THEYS.

Rillaboom: Recovery, utility, big wood hammer. Presuming they dont remove fake out or u turn, I feel this is a must (although sinistcha is super tempting.)

Talonflame: TW setter, quick guard to block prio moves from anything not named aerodactyl, acrobatics because focus sash, and flare blitz to get it off the field in a hurry if I needs a free switch.

Palafin: I just think he is neat. Huge BST, mono-water typing, access to CC or Drain Punch, all around a good mon to have.

Metagross: Secondary Mega and destroyer of toxipex. No meteor mash because I hate missing, and stomping tantrum because grassy terrain reducing EQ damage.

Team Goal: Protect the leader. Bax/Meta too slow? Use Talonflame. Too squishy? Grimmsnarl. Too dead? Rillaboom. Palafin is the ace in the hole who we leave in the back after a flip turn on turn 1, allowing us to cycle in rilla/grim for 2 consecutive fakeouts, or to pivot baxcalibur into a quad resist grass attack or a regular resist electric attack.

Pretty straightforward, nothing fancy, very chill. Yes, incin would be better then Grimm, but I want screens to amplify the already magnanimous bulk that is mega baxcalibur and talonflame for prio tw is a must, so no cat im afraid.

Is the gameplan simple, YES. Would Sinistcha be a strict upgrade to Rilla because rage powder? Maybe. Will this team do anything well? Probably not. But! it is a start.

Let me know what you think, I would love your thoughts!

Obviously ignore the EV spreads, cause we don't know what we need to calc for till we know all the mons.

Yeah, I was considering that, but I feel like I want the fastest flip turn I can to avoid hard switching into bax/rilla. Need to preserve the dolphins health

nobleanchor-28 OP

If i did go mystic, dropping flip turn entirely for protect though, yeah? Just commit to the hard switch

nobleanchor-28 OP

It is but after turn 1 its likely a dead move anyway. Once its on the field in hero form, you just want it to be putting out damage, no?

nobleanchor-28 OP

Maybe sitrus? Imma be honest, I think lefties on mons that aren't named archaludon, hippowdon, or toxapex is bait. 5 turns to get the same amount of healing as a sitrus is just too long for me

nobleanchor-28 OP

Nah, running occa

nobleanchor-28 OP

Yard is scary and I don't have rock coverage

nobleanchor-28 OP

Glaive rush is a guaranteed ohko into no bulk Yard, into bulky zard its 80-95% so an ice shard can follow up the next turn.

quickjewel-96

High likelihood that bax is coming without its mega stone

quickjewel-96

Also a grassy glide would solve your zard problem if you used it with glaive rush

@quickjewel-96 High likelihood that bax is coming without its mega stone
nobleanchor-28 OP

You think so?

nobleanchor-28 OP

Would be a bit of an odd decision

quickjewel-96

Yeah everything we have got so far indicates they are focusing on the Z megas

quickjewel-96

There has been zero mention of mega bax anywhere official and even most leakers are skeptical of mega bax

quickjewel-96

Plus there are no new abilities left from the data mines which go through M-C and it's unlikely bax will have a reused ability

nobleanchor-28 OP

hmm

nobleanchor-28 OP

well, here's hoping

nobleanchor-28 OP

I do really think they'd have it keep thermal exchange

nobleanchor-28 OP

Salamence isnt in the game yet

nobleanchor-28 OP

I just think it would be an odd decision to add Bax and not give it the mega from the Newest mainline game

sunnyquiver-34

floette technically isnt a legendary, just another form
