Summary

In the Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments server, members are collaborating on a unique anti-meta team featuring Vivillon, Metagross, and Politoed. The discussion explores how to optimize this rain-based core while addressing common competitive weaknesses like Trick Room and Garchomp. This thread highlights the community's dedication to theory-crafting and refining off-meta strategies for high-level VGC play.

wildkernel-28 OP

My idea for a weird rain anti meta team mainly revolving around having vivilion set tail wind for team then proceeding to sleep while metagross sweeps with the idea for toed to be bulky disrupting support do we think this could work

"The steel special move" :BulbasaurConfused:

quickjester-17

This for sure could work I'd probably go for a anti trickroom/trickroom sini just to turn it off if you can't one shot opposing farig. This seems like it could work. My big gripe is this team seems like it gets dismantled by like trickroom kingambit or Gengar (not even perish), basically any dark or ghost type. You also don't have a good way to deal with opposing Arch that can hit 3 Mon with electro shot for super effective. You will also probably struggle with garchomp because it would out speed meta and hit with super effective eq on 3 Mon again.

@quickjester-17 This for sure could work I'd probably go for a anti trickroom/trickroom sini just to turn it off if…
wildkernel-28 OP

Yeah I get what you mean I think my main core for this team that I think alllows the possibility for it to function is toed metagross and viv are the main 3 I want to keep the others I’m very open to subbing out do you have any suggestions?

wildkernel-28 OP

I think sneasler could fit well to counter arch and king

quickjester-17

Lemme seeeeeeee, because arch is for sure a good choice

wildkernel-28 OP

But still them leaves a big weakness to chomp but would tailwind ice punch meta be a answer to this?

wildkernel-28 OP

Hear me out as what may be a crazy shout but string shot on viv

wildkernel-28 OP

Never mind just infinitely worst that tailwind

@wildkernel-28 Never mind just infinitely worst that tailwind
quickjester-17

Yes, did some research, if it's not scarf chomp or jolly, and is rather Adamant. You can put 25 speed into Metagross and out speed chomp (tail wind is preferred still)

quickjester-17

Now the only issue is they will likely have prankster tailwind

wildkernel-28 OP

Yeah I mean my logic for a average lead is metagross viv prot metagross tailwind Viv gets down to sash then start trying to snowball with sleep

wildkernel-28 OP

Feel like a lot of ppl expect scarf Viv sleep so more likely to prot turn one also allowing for free tailwind

wildkernel-28 OP

Like this team is just designed to subvert expectations on ladder if ygm

wildkernel-28 OP

Like main things on lead I’m finding rn are zard swamp or flo and this turn one matches decent into all 3 imo

wildkernel-28 OP

Just working out what to bring in back for coverage

quickjester-17

So imo the mons id use outside of the core are
Tsareena, archaludon, incineroar
Tsareena would be a good helping hand Mon that also gets triple axle and power whip which nukes garchomp and mega Swampert. She also shuts down prio moves like fake out or sucker punch.
Incineroar for sure is gonna be mostly pivot rotating fake out, parting shot, intimidate since it can't use flare Blitz effectively.
Finally arch is just too good. It walls entire teams

wildkernel-28 OP

Tbf I was just thinking tsarena she seems very good rn and swamp and chomp probs my biggest weaknesses rn

wildkernel-28 OP

My only concern is oposing arch

wildkernel-28 OP

And this is where only having 4 moves sucks for metagross cause really you can only cover for like 2/3-4 of the things you need to

wildkernel-28 OP

I’m leaning towards fangs iron head and rock slide but just means arch hard walls

quickjester-17

32 Atk Tsareena Triple Axel (120 BP) (3 hits) vs. 32 HP / 32 Def Garchomp: 220-264 (102.3 - 122.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

quickjester-17

Garchomp physically cannot survive this lil fucker

wildkernel-28 OP

She WILL be used

wildkernel-28 OP

So poli tsarena Viv and meta are my main 4

quickjester-17

32 Atk Tsareena Power Whip vs. 32 HP / 32 Def Swampert-Mega: 292-348 (141 - 168.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

quickjester-17

Same with swampert

wildkernel-28 OP

what do we think for countering opposing arch tho

wildkernel-28 OP

Actually can psychic fangs 1 shot zard y?

wildkernel-28 OP

I know he isn’t crazy bulky

quickjester-17

Lemme see

wildkernel-28 OP

Cause then could ditch rock slide and opt for stomping

quickjester-17

I wouldn't count on it
32+ Atk Tough Claws Metagross-Mega Psychic Fangs vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Charizard-Mega-Y: 138-163 (90.1 - 106.5%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

quickjester-17

But if you helping hands it will

wildkernel-28 OP

Damn that’s annoying

wildkernel-28 OP

So I’m thinking maybe sneasler instead of incin?

wildkernel-28 OP

Cause my concerns are gambit and arch now

quickjester-17

32+ SpA Glimmora Helping Hand Earth Power vs. 32 HP / 32 SpD Archaludon: 174-206 (88.3 - 104.5%) -- 25% chance to OHKO

quickjester-17

Here's a funny pick

wildkernel-28 OP

Lowkey

wildkernel-28 OP

That’s a fucking shout

quickjester-17

Also helps with the fairy matchup

wildkernel-28 OP

Does glimpra have abilty other than debris?

quickjester-17

It does

quickjester-17

Corrosion

wildkernel-28 OP

Cause only concern would be potentially proccing toxic instead of spikes

wildkernel-28 OP

Does earth power 1 shot gambit also?

quickjester-17

Lemme see

quickjester-17

32+ SpA Glimmora Earth Power vs. 32 HP / 0 SpD Kingambit: 130-154 (62.8 - 74.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

quickjester-17

No lol

quickjester-17

Lemme see something

wildkernel-28 OP

Ah damn

wildkernel-28 OP

Thing is is that I’m thinking is that sneasler may be better the better choice as I belive it can one shot arch king and ttar while also providing fake out support and dire claw

quickjester-17

Lemme see

quickjester-17

32 Atk Sneasler Close Combat vs. 32 HP / 0 Def Archaludon: 168-198 (85.2 - 100.5%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

quickjester-17

32 Atk Sneasler Close Combat vs. 32 HP / 0 Def Chople Berry Kingambit: 176-210 (85 - 101.4%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

wildkernel-28 OP

Damn this guys a bum

wildkernel-28 OP

What we think of stomping tantrum meta gross potentially

quickjester-17

Id just put garchomp for the last spot at that point

wildkernel-28 OP

True

wildkernel-28 OP

It may be glimmroa time

wildkernel-28 OP

Cause call me crazy but with life orb hh it would one shot both potentially?

quickjester-17

Lemme run the numbers

quickjester-17

32+ SpA Life Orb Glimmora Earth Power vs. 32 HP / 1 SpD Kingambit: 166-198 (80.1 - 95.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

quickjester-17

So now hear me out

quickjester-17

Rock slide would then kill it

quickjester-17

:PokemonChampionsHappy:

wildkernel-28 OP

Hmmmmmmm

wildkernel-28 OP

This may be cooking

wildkernel-28 OP

With triple axel I don’t need ice punch

quickjester-17

32+ SpA Life Orb Glimmora Earth Power vs. 32 HP / 0 SpD Archaludon: 208-247 (105.5 - 125.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

wildkernel-28 OP

With earth power I don’t need stomping tantrum

wildkernel-28 OP

This leaves one move for metagross:PokemonChampionsHappy:

@quickjester-17 32+ SpA Life Orb Glimmora Earth Power vs. 32 HP / 0 SpD Archaludon: 208-247 (105.5 - 125.3%) -- gua…

wildkernel-28 OP

So final team

wildkernel-28 OP

Viv

wildkernel-28 OP

Metagross

wildkernel-28 OP

Politoed

wildkernel-28 OP

Tsarena

wildkernel-28 OP

Incin

wildkernel-28 OP

Not incin

wildkernel-28 OP

Glim

wildkernel-28 OP

Arch

quickjester-17

:Wheeze_Heavy: okay okay so this is the funniest part. Glim is 1 speed point faster than arch naturally

wildkernel-28 OP

Are you fr?

wildkernel-28 OP

Do I even need to invest speed on glim then or just put a very minimal ammount

quickjester-17

Probably a small amount

wildkernel-28 OP

Are we rocking bulky glimora??

quickjester-17

Probably something like...lemme see.

merrypanther-19

Yo?

@merrypanther-19 Yo?
wildkernel-28 OP

You have just stumbled upon the new meta

merrypanther-19

Fair enough

wildkernel-28 OP

Any advice based off what we’ve been talking about?

quickjester-17

Modest
20 HP
32 sp atk
12 sp def (lives flash cannon)
2 speed
Power gem /spike shield /sludge bomb / earth power

wildkernel-28 OP

Astrid your super good at this damage calc stuff is it worth me factoring in the possibility of it living a heatwave?

wildkernel-28 OP

Like zard y drought cause 80 hp 110spd im thinking he may be able to then revenge rockslide?

quickjester-17

I wish I was that good lol uhhhhh

quickjester-17

Lemme see

quickjester-17

I don't think there is a way to deal with that

wildkernel-28 OP

Nah i checked without bombing him it’s not worth

wildkernel-28 OP

Dw I’ll just be a meta demon

quickjester-17

I'm interested to see what Hetera does
