Summary
In Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments this announcement asks for help refining a Mega-Gengar team, debating Whimsicott utility and prankster encore plays. Discussion covers Trick Room counters, suggesting disable vs taunt, rain core options like Palafin or Primarina, and tempo strategies for offensive Gengar. Useful replay and matchup notes help players improve team construction and strategy.
So I've tried making a Mega-Gengar team need help particularly in ironing it out(I don't think Whimsicott is needed) but alas need help

Its not bad
Why lose to trick room when you perish trap em
I think a double up into Farig should be able to take down with black glasses gambit
but that's about what you'd expect in a team like this tbh
Unless there's a mon and move I can use to counter TR?
nah it was meant to be encore
Whimsi is definitely meant to be on a m. Gengar team
I assume hyper offense
Offensive Gengar likes to be played next to disruption and fast
Whimsicott always feels like a drag that just serves to die on the first turn and never be useful for the rest of the battle I'm ngl
Change taunt for disable on Gengar
Its there for prankster encore
In tw, m. Gengar is fast as hell. Double protect into prankster encore after catching them in protect makes the matchup so hard to beat
Especially if you can disable on top of it. They just struggle after a turn
Offensive Gengar mega is the king of anti meta right now
So you know m. Gengar and whimsi synergize REALLY well
Now you have to give them support and damage that keeps the meat grinder moving
And you picked a great secondary core for that. Arch rain works very well into the team
I would take basc out and try out mons like palafin, araquanid, empoleon or primarina if you really want to lean into the rain core, or you could explore options like kommo-o, meowscarada, A9, etc as well
But outside of that it's really solid
Okie

Also this was such asilly win with this team
I'm ngl
Couldn't Blastoise work as well?
No
Too slow
You could shell smash blast
But it's still gonna make him vulnerable
Isn't Primarina also slow?
No.
Well, yes
But it covers better
Slower than Blastoise actually
And still outspeeds most things it needs to under tw
Hyper Voice dazzling gleam. Moonblast encore primarina with fairy feather has been doing some numbers on the teams I use it on
No protect?
Eitherway
I have too many Special Threats
I'm gonna use Palafin to increase physical threat
No. Encore better
Palafin has worked very well for me as well
eehh I already have Encore on one of my mons
Yep
Is better on two if you have it
I don't lose to trick room actually
Well not entirely
It's fairly comfortable to play around
Also I just realized how weird my Politoed build is
Sometimes bad matchups just happen
I could add taunt into Aero tho
Yo
I ain't feelin this team actually
Gengar is good but I feel like the rest just ain't cutting what I need...?
I need help building smth better?
The meta changed so fast overnight on both ladder and tournaments
You need to fully build around gengar imo to fully utilize it
So my team's now heavily underperforming
No crap?? 😭
Sorry
Thats gengars main problem
Your entire team is focued around it
Offense
.
For research
Imo you got 2 mons that literally dont help you bulk things
well give me one Pokemon that is perfect and has no problems to build a team around lol
It got that removed in champions
Maushold
Maushold + perish gengar is amazing
https://pokepast.es/e5be5136ad3e3eb5
See this for further info
I don't wanna run perish
Well your frog has perish
😭
Switched to encore
This is just a example
Ah
Literally said couple messages below
Oh myf
Imo this team is very very cts
Cts?
Oh
Well then suggest me good ots option
Like this team really comfused the enemy imto thinking its perish
Been building for a couple weeks now
I just want smth good atp
Yes i believe
Well whats your favorite mega
Gengar
Mega gengar is easily a mon you can use without perish
You can build a entire team around just shadow tag tbf
Then give me a non perish team
Anything from past tournaments
I'm taking it
Aegislash @ Colbur Berry

- Poltergeist
- Shadow Sneak
- Sacred Sword
- King's Shield
Rotom-Wash @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Levitate
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Protect
Gengar @ Gengarite

I just can't teambuild atp
It went 15-3 at skraws tourney
So cookie cutter but k ig...?
I mean it does seem really good
I just don't fw Garchomp
But so be it
Can easily be dropped
For whom
What do you not like about it
it
I don't fw Garchomp
I just don't personally like it lol
It's overrated
Spreads tho?
I never used Rotom like this before
I'd appreciate some direction
I'm also fairly not good at EV spreads
Which is why I'm asking
Didn't I list hyper offense gengar?
What is the team rn
Why is offensive Gengar almost full bulk
Tf was he cooking
Barely any speed no tw encore disable
Tf
I'll give it a watch
The pivoting is good but it's hard to play
I think you can still run it with basic stats on Gengar tho for max speed and Sp.Atk
