Summary
In Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments this announcement seeks new team ideas beyond Delphox and Gengar, focusing on megas like Banette, Camerupt, Lucario and more. Discussion highlights Mega Banette cores, Shadow Sneak/Sucker Punch/Destiny Bond builds, Trick Room synergy with slow teammates, and merging Camerupt and Farigiraf as a second mega option for Season 2 regulation play.
I'm growing bored of playing Delphox and Gengar. Looking for some new ideas
I am open to team ideas for megas like chestnaught, banette, camerupt, Lucario, beedrill, absol, chimeko
Well
Only one of those has real real potential
Guess
Actually 1 has great potential and one can work
Well
Imo
Yeah
Use mega banette, i will not profess to it being the greatest mon of all time but prankster, an actual attacking stat, and if all else fails destiny bond, is not nothing
Any team comp core ideas? I'll be building this for season 2 and figured I'd open to thoughts and ideas
Take this build slow
I have been thinking a lot about that mega banette sableye combination haha
Will season 2 have the same roster?
yeah, still regulation m-a
Camerupt Farigiraf-
You must try it-
the weaknesses of a pure ghost type are dark and ghost, so a fairy and a dark type to play defence with would be nice- incin or kingambit, and there are so many good fairies but the important part is if you aren't using ninetales or another mega, they're all fairly slow, and banette will only be using priority moves anyways so that lends itself nicely to the start of trick room
Knock Off, Shadow Ball, Sucker Punch...? I never used Banette trying to think of a good moveset to run into this core
Shadow sneak and sucker punch for attacks, then destiny bond and another status move (disable or encore is my personal favourite)
Oh yeah Shadow Sneak
Lets say primarina/kingambit for mons 2 and 3, camerupt and farigiraf could be merged in as a second mega mode, then hydrapple to round out the fwg and fantasy cores and voilla
It has such a high attacking stat I think it should do enough damage
yeah definitely
Cause Shadow Sneak even from Aegislash doesn't OHKO Mega Gengar
actually that's just made me think, how does destiny bond interact with perish song?
Is 75 speed good for a TW and TR double mode in the team
I think it doesn't take anybody down
darn
the destiny bound status is only active for a turn anyway unless you're spamming it
yeah, i was wondering if you used it while perish count ticked from 1 to 0
Sorry, i'm the wrong person to talk abt trickwind with lol, can barely do speed calcs for each individual condition
that's okk
it's just
Mega Camerupt would only work in trick room
But Banette has base 75 speed
I think it's too fast
It doesn't worry abt trick room, because it'll be using all priority moves
So it loses to Farigiraf
ah, hell
I think Banette could benefit from Knock Off personally
yeah that's a good shout
Shadow Claw, Knock Off, Shadow Sneak/Will-O-Wisp/Taunt(?), Protect
I think the third move is where the varience can happen
Protect imo is a must for survivability
I think it can also learn substitute though
Knock-Off is just too good to give up
oh yeah, could combo it with sinistcha instead of hydrapple to recover
why not poltergeist for non-priority ghost damage?
It could work but its attack stat is already so high is it worth risking a 10% chance to miss?
I like going for consistency myself
super fair, i respect it
i'm the kind of woman who runs 3 rockslides on a team and relies on sand veil bright powder, different strokes for different folks
I think Banette benefits from TW
lol I think that's valid
I'm the kind of woman who hates missing attacks
;w;
also entirely valid, i lost a tournament set earlier today bc i missed two slides in a row
I'm gonna try testing out this moveset

What were the other mons you suggested?
Farigiraf?
kingambit, primarina, hydrapple, farigiraf, camerupt as a second mega
i think it should be fine outside of tailwind
This screams trick room mode
yeah, that was kinda the idea
Ok so...
Building it for survivability rn
How about Sableye for fake out?
Probably a good idea, i was pretty much just fitting all that together for type matchups
How you build Hydrapple?
grass stab, dragon stab, protect and a flex move? never used one in my life tbh, didn't pick up the scarvi dlc
oh wait recover is pretty standard, sometimes pollen puff too
https://pokepast.es/20cc140b880cf8c8
looks great!
want to bo3 on showdown and try it out?
The one who wants a team built is Kane tbf lol
But yeah sure
Ah well lol, we can test it for them
I'm ASeeLion
I sent a friend request lol
and I accepted :]
I think we can replace a mon for a fake out user ngl
yeah
Actually the more i look at the team the more banette itself feels out of place, even tho i suggested it lol
maybe taunt over sub?
we'll see
I mean
Banette can be a last mon in rain
Encore bond polter rain dance
Or something like that
Bit difficult to test Banette when I'm ngl Camerupt is a better matchup
😭
yeah apologies for that lol
now Camerupt can't win lmao
rockslide sand veil bright powder, a win is a win
sorry that wasn't a very effective test tho
and you're a great battler btw!
I'm not saying it's a bad strat it's just
Camerupt kinda lost there
I think it's such a negative matchup it takes a lot of effort to win
In closed sheet I think it could work(?)
What are we talking about
I think we need to increase a bit of damage output
Building a team with M-Banette for Kane
yup; and i think you were right about the fake out user
honestly banette could be swapped for sableye, pivot to a mega camerupt team
Mega camerupt needs tr
Tbf I suck at running trick room lol
How hard can it be
You just lead something with fake out or follow me
Click it
Tr
And boom click eruption
Over and over and over and over
And over
And over
Again
You either win the battle in 5 turns or you get some too uncomfortably close games
OR lose turn 1
TR is almost always an uphill battle lol

The player running tr is on top of the hill you mean
when was the last time you played a tr team yourself? it's one of the least 'turn your brain off' strategies that exist
Me?
yeah
Like 2 weeks ago
I hit 1750 Elo on one account in SD with it
Not my main, an alt to test from bottom ladder
Well you're skilled with it
Tô me it's just always so hard especially on champions meta
Can not really I just clicked buttons and ohkod stuff
Nah*
People can get rid of it so fast unless you're running an offense Farigiraf your damage output is always reduced
On the first turn
https://pokepast.es/c9008b1b9ae77aa5
That was the one
I've never had an experience using TR that was just spam moves
Most opponents know how to stall it out
So it's a matter of counting the turns and using them all to the fullest
This is a strong team though
Also Draco I feel if we wanna make this team work
For Banette
We could remove camerupt for Torkoal
We want some weather control imo
Or we could shift from a TR sun core to a TW rain core
I mean you just gotta know some tricks
Like thinking about what Mons you need to prioritise killing so you are able to get a second tr
Positioning to get the double tr trick
I think torkoal works, rain is the most prevalent weather rn even with the weather wars being possibly the most balanced they've ever been
And allowing your Mons to die early to get pins
Otherwise it's easy
Rain mu is kinda interesting for tr
Not to me
The easiest team that I ran so far has Mega Gengar and Archaludon tho tbf lol
hmm wait how does the team handle fairy types? there's only one resistance, the camerupt/torkoal, and that can't come to every game
Most of the times I beat trick room by stalling it out and killing the TR setter fast but I've never had the same power surge when playing with TR
Gambit should be able to
?
not talking to you
I mean you responded to the message that responded to my team
ah, i meant to respond to the mega banette one
iron head does do numbers, that's fair, just kind of concerned abt switching in on fairy attacks
Gambit doesn't really deal with Floettes
It'd be neutral damage I think Gambit is fine
You would think
Helping hand Floette moonblast/pure LoR ohkos
Aka plus one moonblast
I know Gengar destroys Floette
But he doesn't exactly work well in TR
And toxapex is a bum 😭
no wait hang on, toxapex might be an idea
doesn't have the output of primarina but hella bulk, wide guard, status spreading if you want it
haze for shutting down wall strategies and other boosts
I mean
You wanna try?
I live for insane ideas
might as well, it's not failure if it doesn't work, just means we go back to the board
I should build a stall team
Pex is low-key fun tox answer
Does it beat yard
https://pokepast.es/362a867601f20ad2
Is haze still bugged
It doesnt
Interesting ideas
So we are leaning camerupt trick room?
Also why hydrapple over sinistcha
Dmg?
I am also not too sure about imprison on farig doing anything I want it to do other than denying protect to other farig
Or well denying protect to any mon
Now I see disregard
You could go for Hyper Voice max Offense Farig too
Sure. Still not understanding flapples position here
Didn't pick it lol
Flapple?
Its name starts with an H
Hydrapple
Drapple of some kind
My logic was hydrapple being a slow grass type that isn't sinistcha to prevent ghost overlap, and it also fills in the fantasy core- if you think sinistcha would be better tho go ahead, i'm not a dictator lol
