Mega Scizor Snow Team Feedback

Summary

This announcement in the Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments server features a deep dive into a unique Snow-based team composition. The build centers on Mega Scizor as a sweeper supported by Alolan Ninetales, Mr. Rime, and Milotic. Community members discuss the viability of this strategy, focusing on defensive synergy under Aurora Veil and tactical counters to common VGC threats.

grandknight-68 OP

royalcloud-73

Holy fire weakness

royalcloud-73

Your mega is really confusing as well

grandknight-68 OP

Yeah, Milotic and Hydreigon are supposed to help with that

royalcloud-73

Venesaue

grandknight-68 OP

I guess I should explain what I'm thinking. My thinking with Mega Scizor is:

Scizor is super tanky in Aurora Veil
I can switch in after a good Mr. Rime Encore to set up with Swords Dance, and then sweep

royalcloud-73

Sweep how? With bullet punch?

grandknight-68 OP

Yep. Mega Scizor has 150 base attack. Swords Dance boosted Technician Boosted Bullet Punch is going to kill pretty much everything that doesn't resist it in one shot

royalcloud-73

Any fake out user will stop that

grandknight-68 OP

Yeah true, I have to time my protect correctly

royalcloud-73

Protect won't save it my guy

grandknight-68 OP

I mean, aside from fake out, there's not many priority moves right? Farigiraf/Tsareena is the other counter I can think of. There's Extreme Speed but it's going to tickle Scizor

grandknight-68 OP

I think Mega Scizor fits my team, I'm not sure what other mega you would use?

royalcloud-73

It's not that it doesn't fit

royalcloud-73

You just don't have it's support

royalcloud-73

And you don't have a solid answer for y zard sun

royalcloud-73

Your chosen mega has a glaring 4x weakness to fire

grandknight-68 OP

That's true

royalcloud-73

Your answers to fire are weak to the other most common mons in y zard teams

grandknight-68 OP

My Hydreigon can deal with Charizard Y, but otherwise yeah you're right

royalcloud-73

But can it stop other mons on the team?

grandknight-68 OP

My team can definitely deal with Venusaur, I have a lot of answers to that

grandknight-68 OP

What else do people run on zard teams?

grandknight-68 OP

Maybe I should go back to the drawing board to deal with Zar better

royalcloud-73

For starters, do you know how fast sun boosted chlorophyll venesaur is?

grandknight-68 OP

Nothing on my team outspeeds it, I'm hoping to kill it with priority ice shard

royalcloud-73

And that it runs sludge bomb and sleep powder

grandknight-68 OP

I just have Icy Wind on 2 Pokemon for speed control, it's not going to be enough to outspeed Venusaur in the Sun

royalcloud-73

Correct

royalcloud-73

Priority won't kill either

royalcloud-73

Prio moves are meant for dealing that bit of damage you need to either kill next turn in revenge or finish off a mon

grandknight-68 OP

I have to kill Venusaur with a combination of Ice Shard and Bullet Punch, or a well timed Icicle Crash might OHKO it, but it's harder to pull off

royalcloud-73

If I were playing you in sun

royalcloud-73

I would fake out and sleep powder the threat

royalcloud-73

Then finish with sludge bomb

royalcloud-73

Your entire team is weak to y zard

grandknight-68 OP

I think my weakness is Mega Scizor, it doesn't add anything to my team, it doesn't even cover for my fire weakness

royalcloud-73

So it becomes a weather control game to have a chance

royalcloud-73

Mr rime is good but not your best option either

royalcloud-73

I would swap for clefable

royalcloud-73

If Scizor is the mega you want to build around snow isn't your friend

grandknight-68 OP

I chose Mr. Rime for 3 reasons
1. It's super bulky in the snow with Ice Body
2. Encore can mess up a lot of pokemon, especially Whimsicott
3. need Icy Wind for speed control, since I'm not running TR or TW
Does it make sense?

grandknight-68 OP

Yeah I'm going to change Mega Scizor for another Mega first

grandknight-68 OP

I need something that counters Sun

royalcloud-73
  1. Clefable is super bulky in itself and has the same fake out and follow me to keep your mega alive or get aurora veil off safely
  2. Clefable also has encore
  3. Milotic has icy wind
grandknight-68 OP

Follow Me is not going to help me much against Charizard's Heat Wave though, and I think I need more than one pokemon with speec control, not just Milotic

grandknight-68 OP

Maybe something with Wide Guard?

royalcloud-73

Correct so you need an answer to y zard that is fast enough to ohko it and has access to a hard hitting ground move and doesn't falter in an ice team

grandknight-68 OP

I was gonna say Mega Emboar, it resist fire and can OHKO Charizard Y with Head Smash, but sadly it's weak to flyping

royalcloud-73

Maybe a certain Mon that also has access to tailwind

grandknight-68 OP

Mega Emboar also ignores chlorophyll with its mold breaker, I think?

royalcloud-73

And also has a mega 😉

grandknight-68 OP

tell me who is the mistery pokemon lol

royalcloud-73

Aerodactyl

grandknight-68 OP

Ooooh, good one

grandknight-68 OP

Ok I'm trying that

royalcloud-73

Clefable Aerodactyl combo hard counters y zard with rock slide

royalcloud-73

It's also faster in tailwind

grandknight-68 OP

but how does clefable counter charizard y?

grandknight-68 OP

charizard y isn't even dragon type

royalcloud-73

Fake out

grandknight-68 OP

True but Mr. Rime also has that

royalcloud-73

Mr rime is weak to fire

royalcloud-73

Clefable is not

grandknight-68 OP

True

grandknight-68 OP

And also if I run Tailwind on Mega Aerodactyl, having 2 Icy Winds isn't necessary anymore

royalcloud-73

Correct

grandknight-68 OP

On Mega Dactyl, I can use Rockslide, Tailwind, Taunt, Protect?

royalcloud-73

Follow me flamethrower from hydregion also should remove the threat from venesaur

grandknight-68 OP

What about Fake Out Flamethrower?

grandknight-68 OP

even better, no?

royalcloud-73

If you have it available in time

royalcloud-73

But I would think venesaur would be a switch if clefable was already out follow me denies it attacking anyone but clefable

royalcloud-73

And gives you a chance to get hydregion in safely

royalcloud-73

I would run follow me, moon blast fake out protect on clefable

grandknight-68 OP

Losing encore kinda stinks though

royalcloud-73

Double check if clefable gets fake out as well

royalcloud-73

I feel like Ive seen it

royalcloud-73

If not, it isn't needed completely

royalcloud-73

You can then give it say, helping hand

grandknight-68 OP

It does have Encore but not Fake Out

grandknight-68 OP

According to pikalytics

royalcloud-73

Or encore instead

royalcloud-73

Yes

royalcloud-73

Any of those would work in place of fake out

royalcloud-73

Try those out and see how it feels then ping me and let me know how it goes

royalcloud-73

If you run into any other trouble, make a note of it here so we can work around the issues

grandknight-68 OP

yeah I'll let you know

royalcloud-73

If you decide taunt isn't needed you could try stealth rock as well

royalcloud-73

On aero

grandknight-68 OP

I'll try Clefable with Moonblast, Follow Me, Encore, Protect

royalcloud-73

Sounds good

grandknight-68 OP

Interestingly though, Mr. Rime learns Thunderbolt, while Clefable only learns Thuner

royalcloud-73

What would you need that for lmao

grandknight-68 OP

to kill Charizard Y

royalcloud-73

You have rock slide

grandknight-68 OP

it's weak to water, electric, rock

royalcloud-73

And scald

grandknight-68 OP

true but that's it, I have rock slide, and scald which is not that good since burning a special attacker is useless

royalcloud-73

We aren't concerned with the burn on y zard

grandknight-68 OP

yeah, just killing him ofc

royalcloud-73

And if you ran thunder you would lose a move

grandknight-68 OP

True, but I just realized that if I run Tail Wind, I can replace Icy Wind on Rime with Thunderbolt, Thunderbolt + Psychic is good neutral coverage and hits Zard Y hard

grandknight-68 OP

It's better offensively, but weaker defensively, I think

grandknight-68 OP

compared to Clefable

grandknight-68 OP

Does Mega Dactyl Rockslide OHKO Zard Y? This is what I need to know

royalcloud-73

You could change rock slide to stone edge and garuntee ohko on y zard

grandknight-68 OP

True but Rock Slide might OHKO anyway since it's 4x weak to it

royalcloud-73

Correct

royalcloud-73

But you lose follow me

royalcloud-73

Which makes it harder to do

grandknight-68 OP

The only question is, does Mr. Rime in the snow with aurora veil still die instantly to Heat Wave?

grandknight-68 OP

actually it's not the only question lol

grandknight-68 OP

with tailwind, am I gonna be faster than zard?

grandknight-68 OP

I don't like Follow Me because I noticed that most Zard are spamming Heat Wave, Follow me would only save me against Venusaur

grandknight-68 OP

Interestingly Mr. Rime has more weaknesses, but the only weakness that matters is Fire, all its other weaknesses are irrelevant against Zard teams

grandknight-68 OP

I'm still on the fence on which pokemon is better, Mr. Rime or Clefable

royalcloud-73

You can always try them both and see which feels better

grandknight-68 OP

If I'm not playing a snow team, then yeah it's clefable, no brainer here

grandknight-68 OP

but Ice Body Mr. Rime in the snow might have more longevity than Clefable, even with the 2x fire weakness, but I'm not sure

royalcloud-73

I just wouldn't bother with thunderbolt

grandknight-68 OP

Clefable is probably more reliable since it's still going to be good if I lose the weather war, while Mr. Rime becomes frail

grandknight-68 OP

Yeah I agree with that

grandknight-68 OP

Icy Wind is better, it allows me to lead with Mr. Rime, and Rock Slide probably OHKOs zard anyway

royalcloud-73

Icy wind isn't needed

grandknight-68 OP

so what else to run then?

grandknight-68 OP

I already have Freeze Dry on Ninetales, so I won't run that twice

grandknight-68 OP

Psychic already has good neutral coverage

royalcloud-73

You are already running icy wind on milotic

grandknight-68 OP

yeah true

royalcloud-73

I would leave it there

royalcloud-73

And use it to gain advantage against opposing tailwind

grandknight-68 OP

But I need a fourth move, I have Fake Out, Psychic, Encore

grandknight-68 OP

Maybe After You to hit harder with Ninetales?

grandknight-68 OP

Thunderbolt is the only good move I can see in the list

grandknight-68 OP

Or Maybe Thunder to surprise right teams, since Freeze Dry won't be enough to OHKO some bulky water pokemon like milotic

grandknight-68 OP

No one on ladder will expect the Thunder Mr. Rime

grandknight-68 OP

I'll try both Clefable and Rime and I'll report my findings later

royalcloud-73

You could also just use screen

royalcloud-73

Gain more defenses against your weaknesses

grandknight-68 OP

Yeah I thought about that but I can't find it in its movepool on pokebase

grandknight-68 OP

Oh but it does learn Safeguard

grandknight-68 OP

don't think that's really useful though

grandknight-68 OP

Oh wait I'm dumb, it learns Light Screen

grandknight-68 OP

true, Light Screen is pretty darn good against Zard Y

grandknight-68 OP

But Light Screen without Light Clay feels bad

grandknight-68 OP

I'll try Light Screen anyway, Aurora Veil + Light Screen feels super strong

royalcloud-73

Sure but it would be paired with aurora veil

royalcloud-73

Mhm

grandknight-68 OP

Yep exactly

royalcloud-73

Now you're cooking

royalcloud-73

Alr give it a try and let me know what is kicking your ass the worst

grandknight-68 OP

With Focus Sash on Ninetales and a super bulky Mr. Rime in the snow, I'm basically almost guaranteed to set up Light Screen + Aurora Veil turn 1. Then I can switch basically anything on my team and live 1 hit, then set up tailwind on dactyl against zard teams

grandknight-68 OP

Yep now finally I'm cooking something decent lol

grandknight-68 OP

Thanks for all the help, wouldn't have gotten there without you

grandknight-68 OP

https://pokepast.es/9e5726d98d778d66 the team new

grandknight-68 OP

Mega Aerodactyl Snow Team

grandknight-68 OP

do you think I can change Icy Wind on Milotic?

grandknight-68 OP

Or it's still useful?

grandknight-68 OP

Nothing's going to outspeed Tailwind Mega Dactyl I think

grandknight-68 OP

I could change Icy Wind with Recover

grandknight-68 OP

But then I become extremely reliant on my Dactyl pulling off Tailwind, so Idk

royalcloud-73

Keep it for when both teams use tailwind
