Darkitsu Scam Alert: Protect Your Accounts
Summary
Darkitsu warns members about common scams targeting Steam, Roblox, Fortnite, Instagram, Snapchat, and more. The announcement lists examples like fake report claims, false item transfers, malicious links, requests for verification codes, and fake commission or help requests, and urges never to share passwords or codes. It explains how to verify support emails and what to do if you suspect a scam to protect the community.
Please be aware of common scams. Real people will not randomly message you about your steam, roblox, fortnite, instagram, snapchat, etc.
Common scams include messages along the lines of:
"I accidentally reported your (app) account." : Will have you contact someone posing as a staff member that will ask you for personal info.
"I accidentally sent you (item/money). Can you transfer it back?" : Never sent anything, hopes you will transfer them the item/money 'back' to them
"Can you vote for me through (link)" : Will take you to a page that asks for personal information
"Can you test my game/script/plugin" : Interaction can download viruses, malware, or grab your cookies
"I need your help to recover my account" : Trick to steal verification codes to your account. If you received a verification code email from Discord support, this person has your email, password, or both. If this happens, change your password immediately and block.
(From a friend) "I need money to get home/hospital bills/etc" : Will get you to send them money. Check through another app to see if it truly is your friend!
"I'm a digital artist. Are you interested in commissions" : Can be legit, but be wary about commissioning strangers. Majority of real artists will not randomly message you.
Just make sure to:
- Never share any personal information like your password, emails, codes, etc.
- Verify support emails. On most social medias, support will never message you through the app.
- Don't click on any links/scan any QR codes from people you don't know.
If you're ever confused on if something is a scam, research! Majority of scams are well known, like the ones i've listed above.
