New: the program updates itself
A new version used to mean a fresh download. Now it checks for one at startup, quietly — a server that is down changes nothing and the program runs as it is — and offers the update when there is one. You install it or carry on; nothing is forced. Every update is signed, and both the signature and the checksum are verified before a single byte is installed, so a tampered download is refused rather than run. The swap happens in a separate step that keeps the old version until the new one has come up — and if it doesn't, the old one is put back. The only thing it ever says about itself is which version is running, and only if you leave the anonymous stat on.
New: Backups
Everything the program remembers — your watchlists, your favourites, what has already been saved — lives in one file under %APPDATA%. Delete that folder by accident, or let a "clean up" tool sweep it, and it was all gone. Two things now stand between you and that:
- On the same PC: a rotating stack of copies is kept outside %APPDATA%, in your Documents. Start the program to an emptied folder and the newest copy is put back by itself before anything loads — your lists are simply there again.
- Media is shrunk first: pictures become WebP and clips become WebM on your own machine before they go up, so the archive takes far less room. The same file is never sent twice.
Anonymous count
The program reports which version is running and, once a day, a token that changes every day — no name, no account, no machine. One switch in Settings, off whenever you want.
