Lebanon Marital Rape Law and Beirut Airstrike Updates

Summary

r/Lebanon discusses why marital rape remains outside the scope of Article 503 of the Lebanese Penal Code and the 2017 reform that removed a provision allowing rapists to avoid charges by marrying victims. The announcement also shares reports that an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s suburbs killed two and injured 11 amid a fragile ceasefire, highlighting urgent legal and security issues for the community.

Why is Marital Rape in Lebanon still not a crime? And has no political party ever push for it?

According to article 503 of the Lebanese Penal code "Whoever forces women other than his spouse, through violence and threats to have sex, is punished for hard labor for at least 5 years." The article limits the crime to non-marital.

I know there was a push in 2017 which was, I think by a women's rights organization and NOT any prominent party in Lebanon. This one managed to remove the article that allowed Rapists to marry their victims and go uncharged which very tied marital rape.
