LU English BA: Master’s Options Beyond Teaching

Masters in LU

Im finishing up my BA in english lit at LU and i'm looking into master's options. I was originally planning on getting a TD, but it will restrict my options to teaching. Since an english BA is pretty broad but it offers very little opportunities in the work field, i want to pivot to a master's in a higher demand field that doesn't have to do with education, plausibly HR or clinical psychology, so i would appreciate any insights on whether i could apply to those master's programs or not, if yes what are the requirements, and if not, any other alternatives that aren't translation nor corpus linguistics.

Why Do Some Lebanese Discuss Gaza but Not South Lebanon?

Why do some Lebanese talk about Gaza but not south Lebanon?

I’ve met alot of Lebanese people who talk about the atrocities in Gaza but not the ones in south Lebanon, despite it being their own country

I have heard the very same people say that the reason why is because all southerners are hezeb supporters and brought it on themselves, so why should they care.

(That’s not the mindset that all of them share, so that’s why I’m asking why do some talk about Gaza and not talk about what’s going on in their own country)

Also, can’t you say the same argument and assume all Gazans are Hamas supporters, so thus there’s no need to talk about it?

Why do people generally speaking, not say that all Gazans are Hamas supporters, but alot of people say all southerners and Hezbos

Everyone has free will to do and believe whatever they want, I’m not judging anyone.

I’m just asking these questions as I’ve noticed this and found that it didn’t add up

BIA Passengers Down 24% YTD — Aug 2026

Number of Beirut International Airport (BIA) passengers down by 24.08% Y-O-Y by August 2026

BIA activity improved markedly on a monthly basis in August, with the number of passengers increasing by 15.71% month-on-month to 835,817, reflecting the seasonal pickup in travel during the summer season. Nevertheless, passenger traffic remained well below the 930,037 level recorded a year earlier, as expatriates and tourists remained cautious about the risk of renewed hostilities in the region. Additionally, the hike in ticket prices due to the increase in the price of oil may also have contributed to the annual drop. The ratio of departing to arriving passengers attained 1.26x in August 2026 (as most expatriates and tourists return to their country of residence ahead of schools/universities reopening) compared to 0.65x in July 2026, 0.74x in June, and 0.82x in May. On a cumulative basis, the total number of passengers dropped by 24.08% y-o-y to \~3.58 million passengers in the first eight months of 2026 down from 4.72 million passengers a year earlier. More specifically, the number of arriving travelers via the BIA dropped by 15.27% m-o-m and by 26.56% y-o-y to 1.81 million YTD August 2026. The number of departing travelers rose by 63.12% m-o-m yet receded by 21.42% y-o-y to 1.77 million. The number of transit travelers, on the other hand, increased by 5.28% m-o-m and by 99.00% y-o-y to 2,199. As to the number of flights, the latter saw a monthly increase of 10.41% and an annual drop of 19.09% in the first eight months of the current year to 29,590.

Lebanese Diaspora: An Essential Voice in Lebanon’s Future

Lebanese diaspora are Lebanese

There's kind of a trend among some Lebanese to kind of deride the diaspora, to treat them as if they're somehow less Lebanese than those living in Lebanon. You can hear it in comments like "How dare they think X, let them come live here and then talk."

You can even see it in political commentators like Ronnie Chatah and Saleh Machnouk, who have expressed disdain for diaspora Lebanese expressing their opinions, painting the voices of the diaspora as less important somehow because they don't have to experience life in Lebanon and the difficulties here.

I find this ironic because these people don't actually platform people who were the most affected by the war unless they say the things those commentators want to hear, but I'm going to put that aside for now.

First of all a lot of the diaspora are going to come back to Lebanon at some point. Many of them live in countries which do not provide a pathway to citizenship, meaning that if they lose their jobs or want to retire, they will have to come back so they have a very real interest in the future of the country even though they don't live in it. Even a lot of those with dual citizenship would love to come back, have family here, etc., so they have a stake in the country's future as well.

Beyond that, I personally believe that if we want to rebuild the country, the diaspora have a massive role to play, and I don't mean by sending money here or by coming back for a couple of weeks during the summer to see their families. I mean that diaspora Lebanese have lived in the countries that they lived in for a long time, have relationships with the people of those countries, in a lot of cases have reached high positions. They know what the difficulties are there, how the systems in those countries function and more generally the realities of those countries. They have built expertise that is not possible to get in Lebanon, and exposed to different environments that give them a unique perspective on things.

That knowledge is invaluable. When deciding what kind of econ...

Lebanon Charges Five in Alleged Hezbollah Network

Lebanon charges 5 in alleged Hezbollah operation to train Assad loyalists

The detainees revealed in their initial interrogations that the network brought more than 40 members of Assad's forces from the Syrian coast through illegal crossings in northern Lebanon, in batches of five people at a time.

Among the detainees is Syrian Col. Manaf Ali Safi, an intelligence officer who headed one of the former Syrian regime's security branches.

The detainees also allegedly admitted that Hezbollah operatives trained the recruits under the direction of a man known as Hajj Alaa, who according to local reports managed logistics and housing for operatives in Beirut’s southern suburbs, Zahle in the east and Haret Saida in the south.

He also paid the trainees via an association affiliated with Hezbollah. According to LBCI, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Alaa, who remains at large.
Judicial sources revealed to Asharq al-Awsat earlier this month that the network was operating under the direction of Maj. Gen. Mohammed Jaber, the former commander of the Syrian army's Desert Brigade. Jaber now resides in Moscow.

The Seal Keeper: Marwan and the Red Python

Marwan overlooking Mount Lebanon (from my comic project "The Seal Keeper")

In summer 1973, Marwan is convinced he saw a red python, much to his father’s dismay: "Red snakes don't exist around here!"

At a wedding reception, chaos ensues when Marwan screams, "Snake! Watch out!" yet no one sees it and thinks he lost his mind.

Yet he was never hallucinating: the creature is the pet of Humbaba, guardian of the cedar forest, who entrusts Marwan with a mystical amber seal pendant.

The artwork depicts Marwan later in the story with his unusual pet, his seal pendant and scimitar.

Hezbollah, Disarmament and Lebanon’s Security

Hezbollah must be convinced to prioritize Lebanon and not Iran, says Elias Bou Saab

“If the Lebanese state does not have Hezbollah’s approval, it is negotiating over something that it cannot deliver.

“That’s why Hezbollah needs to be convinced that we need to reach a solution to the issue of handing over weapons and ensuring that weapons are exclusively in the hands of the Lebanese state,” he said.

Bou Saab emphasized the need to disarm Hezbollah and ensure that the Lebanese army is the only armed force in Lebanon.

But he said that disarmament was not enough.
“The issue is not simply about handing over weapons. There need to be guarantees, including the liberation of Lebanese territory and prisoners, and guarantees that Israel will not attack Lebanon,” he said.

Lebanon Reacts to Syria’s Fuel Price Protests

Lebanese are cowards

Politics aside, respect for Syrians standing up against [rising fuel prices](https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/syria-fuel-price-hikes-trigger-widest-protests-since-assad-fall-2026-09-14/).

Lebanese on the other hand can take every price increase like a bitch taking dicks.
