Revise Hype Engine for Quality Engagement

This is personal feedback regarding the hype engine from a server owner who values community quality over activity metrics
Hype engine isn't doing exactly what it is called
The hype engine is a way to farm engagement which doesn't provide any actual hype to the community
I know Community.one supports quality servers and its their priority
But hype engine doesn't align with this
An engagement farming tool is not a quality server
Complete quest for reward is a great idea but only if we utilize it in a way that matches our needs
The intent is to keep servers active but the hype engine currently rewards quantity of messages over quality of engagement
If i don't like the hype engine i could just stop using it but we can't use other features like the partner program because of it
So what i suggest is to disconnect the partner program from the hype engine or revise the hype engine or use server insights with the partner program if the goal is engagement based partnership and not quality
What changes would make the hype engine actually reflect community quality
- Hype should be based on how many members participate in events
- Hype should be based on how many members participate in a stage
- Hype should be based on how many members react with โญ๏ธ on forums to push it to the starboard to bump real work
- Hype should be based on forum content post's count which are contributed by their members
- Hype should be based on submission count of server reviews
Add a toggle button for the daily quest feature
One thing i personally liked about the hype engine is that our social media feed can be featured on discord and members can engage with social media pages to complete the quest
Many discord communities do put effort on other social media to hype the community too
This is the hype that the hype engine should create
Consistent participation of members in events is called hype
Consistent participation of members in stage is called hype
Consistent engagement with quality content in forums is called hype
Bumping quality content to starboard is hype
Members create hype for the community with real engagement
A server with consistent event participation and quality forum content should qualify for partnership regardless of chat volume
Gating partnership eligibility behind chat activity alone disadvantages quality servers unfairly
As i said you can toggle existing features
Hype engine does really have potential and is helpful for new communities
What im asking is to add some features for quality servers too and make current features flexible so we can disable or enable them as per need
A fully automated engine is a very good idea but the engine should also have a solid one time configuration too
The hype engine has two real use cases that should both be supported
For smaller communities it works well as an engagement generator to build initial activity
For established quality communities it should function as an engagement measurement tool that reflects actual participation in events stages and forums
Both are valid and both deserve to be served
Thank you so much for taking the time to give such detailed feedback. We really appreciate it.

yep, tagging so that he doesnt miss it either.
100% agree with everything you say,
We are not emphazing on hype engine at the moment precisely because of this issues. And also i competely agree that the only saving grace that we have is our social media quest, which we tend to bring on reddit and youtube very soon.
The only thig that we did right on hype engine is the pretty UI and also a rough outline on the gamification part.
But yes, hype engine is excessively grindy and encourage farming behavior and that is a relic of us serving some type of communities that excessively craving engagment at all cost, you'd be happy to hear that we have started to move away from serving this type of users very delibrately for a while now.
One highlight from hype engine is that it does incredible job in retenting users.
After pushing out new version of spark and integrate spark to your forum, we will do a new version of hype engine, focus solely on quality engagement and pushing users to provide geniune interactions for the purpose of enriching the community content and also to help commnity grow beyond Discord in a organic way
Yea the impact on retention can be real
To be honest i didnt use hype engine much because after checking quest i realized it is not what we need in long term view
Our community is facing low activity too and we need retention
But the quest is not helping much with it
What problems we are truly facing are
- i dont have anything that will give event prize just rank
- i have hosted nine creative and fun events in these two years but hardly someone participated
- we have forums for students and tech related topics but they dont even know these exist
While hype engine is delivering something else
role based on message count is exactly what leveling bot does we have that system already which eliminates need of quest system our members prefer leveling system over hype engine
(It is hard for me to shift them from leveling system to ai based quest system)
Good luck and thanks for hearing though
Also can i ask for your opinion on this workflow
use hype engine to hype up community
then matching community on hype engine will be partnered automatically
now we can host event with our partner who can sponsor virtual currency or item of cm one
on sponsor side they dont need to find idea for events
event will be hosted mutually
we can use those currency to buy real thing via cm one global shop our channel specific shop our partner server shop
integrate shop with hype engine quest too need to think carefully about it
It can be anything like merch or art kit
The idea is that our sponsor can promote their community or product to partnered server who need sponsor for events
I'm very excited for spark ai update ๐ถโ๐ซ๏ธ
Haha thank you too for noticing.
I really need a solution for this.
I have some personal frustrations with communities without purpose. People are just chatting for freebies or to find a partner on discord.
Those communities dont have any goals left after becoming the most active server. The members of the community arent loyal to the community. I used to ask members personally how they met their friends. They mentioned the name of a community which used to be very active. They built strong emotional connections and memories with that community but they cant go back because it no longer has any goals left. Even if they want to return what else can they do except chat more to have fun.
Basically it becomes wasting time and here comes the factor of quality of engagement or the mission we really seek. They found their best friends in a chill server. What else does that community offer them now.
I dont want my community to become like this. I need more options after reaching high activity. I see that potential on discord.
do you have any thoughts on how to continue to engage users after a while on the server?
yeah, we are doing a lot of backend stuff on spark, its gonn be a lot better and more powerful
i think theres a lot of potential with the sponsor idea, thats essentially in-server native ads,
I think we should get away from the curreny system, bc if we want hype engine to be about quality engagement, there's not gonna be an economy system.
for now, the next couple weeks to cuople month, we are gonna focus on growth and try to bring in more traffic from the google side
This is how we keep new comers engaged attached to server at onboarding
i think realistically, if we wanna build out the in-server partner sponsor, we need a lot of servers so tht the user can choose
but monetization is the ultimate goal for us
but growth and the quality engagement, as you said, come before this..
btw, is this deliberate

The last point
Traffic from google side is exactly what i want too
Look at this

I got a lot of members from chatgpt cause of communitone
the third servers, where is it quoted from
wow this is cool
can i posted on my twitter
we are gnna do something even more powerful
this is coming in 1-2 weeks
Hey wait lemme check whats happening there
its called "domain expertise", so we look at all your annoucement and forum details and then build around a keyword, and then interlink all the relatied articles and forums and annoucement to that keywords
so that google will reconigize you as the domain expertise
but i think we are gonna charge a small prmium for this, since its good amount of work on our side
You haven't joined the server thats why ig
wait really? i thought i joined lol
Nah
Coolest
We were using own marketing articles before
I deleted those cause i got alternative
Why not
Its cause of SEO focused description in our server listing
CommunityOne's Domam Authority is avarage i guess
Around 65-70 i guess
DA depends on how old your site is and how optimized it is
Also there are some other factors like external links and traffic
๐ค
Lemme show you prove

Are we going to make it automated too
How about asking CommunityOne members for their thoughts on the sponsor idea as well?
CommunityOne isnโt listed on Product Hunt.. otherwise, I would have created a discussion forum for this myself.
To be honest, I think community management is primarily responsible for engagement. An inactive server wonโt survive just because it has a few โtoolsโ to boost activity. Maintaining a healthy balance of engagement still comes down to how the community is managed.
That said, Iโve seen members who prefer freebies, giveaways, and ranks over events, stages, forums, or starboards. They tend to stay engaged through simple in-server activities. mini games with scoring systems, leaderboards, and similar mechanics.
In short, games like word chain, counting, or card based activities can be enough to keep that segment engaged.
But the real question is: isnโt CommunityOne meant to be a community directory and a platform for building communities?
Another one by our member

this well is well said. yeah.
we do see oursevles to become a complementary platform addiiton to your primary choice of community building. The main two problems that we wanna solve is growth, since almost all platforms ask you to be responsive for the growth and monetization. but for montization, this requires us to facilate meaningful community engagement directly on our platform too.
Yea sure. Thanks for thinking this way.
CommunityOne already has all features divided as separate parties, so you can build that infrastructure to maintain the growth of both your platform and CommunityOne itself.
But one key topic from this forum was to keep features like this optional and flexible for communities.
If you make it compulsory, it may cause another issue: some portion of our members will become oriented to your platform rather than our own community.
I understand that for monetisation you need meaningful community engagement directly on your platform. But we already facilitate engagement ourselves โ forums, emojis, server announcements, etc.
What makes me uncomfortable is sharing our members directly with a third party. Iโd much rather support and contribute to your platform as administrators, without putting your tool in front of each member.
So my suggestion: measure and work on engagement that benefits the whole community under administration supervision โ not direct, perโmember engagement on your platform.
I was really brainstorming with the idea of event partnership haha
๐ญ
interesting, but we are thinking more in the line of doing revenue share with your community via all the engagement directly happen on our platform
kinda of like how youtube shares revenue with the creator
i dont think there are plans from Discord of sharing their ads revenue with you and also i dont think discord is a platform where your member will be okay with ads natively
very very few servers that we come across can sustain themsevles directly on Discord, even if you get some sponsorship deal happening, they are never long term revenue
Yea i support the idea
You know I'm really worried with current culture of discord
Members don't even know about stage, events, forums these days
I want to use those to be monetized too
If you can do something to it
Ads on our community listing?
so the long term plan is to drive enough traffic and engagement to your community page on our site, so that we can help you monetize automatically. this includes the abilities to opt in for ads, and also let you allow users to do ads-quests, so as your members complete those quests, you will directly get ads revenue from the sponsor and also donations or subscriptions
so far very few members pay for member subscription on discord, so i'd image this to be hard and a lot of work and iterations for the server owner to figure it out
What will we offer to user doing quests
nothing, they will be on the leaderboard, and be acknaoledge for the contribution that they made for you... kinda of like twitch donation
Cause discord server doesn't offer anything in return
They are like "Buy rank to support us"
Perk: some emojis....
thats the whole point of a commnunity, everybody contributes a bit to the best they can
Right
We got leveling system on our server
Its like
assets
1 message = 1 xp
1 minute in vc = 1xp
formula
1 level = 100xp
for every next level = prev requirement +20
rank based roles
5 level = Level I [Role]
10 level = Level II [Role]
It takes 1 year+ to complete level 10
Can do impliment this type of flexible template in ad based quest too? For audience
Sorry im just brainstorming
It like if we can replace traditional leveling system with this lol
This all thing just to introduce them to this feature cause its unique
