Summary
In the Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments server, members are actively collaborating on a bulky Skeledirge team build. The discussion focuses on the strategic choice between Trick Room and Tailwind, with community experts providing advice on team synergy, move sets, and the importance of committing to a specific speed control strategy. This thread highlights the collaborative environment where players refine their competitive drafts for BO3 open team sheet formats.
Hey guys, I've been trying to build a team around Skeledirge for doubles and I decided on its bulky version. The problem is, because of its speed, I can't decide whether to pair it with a Tailwind or Trick Room team. This team is just a draft and I put it together myself, so half the team works with Trick Room and the other half outside of it. I intend to use it for BO3 with an open team sheets and gradually improve it. I don't know if a team like this would work. I was hoping someone with more experience could give me some advice on how to adjust the team. The sixth Pokémon I added was Hydreigon so I could hit Dragon and Electric types. Thanks for the help! :D
this is the team https://pokepast.es/a74af308dca8cfe9
Maybe Incineroar? I checked the Pokémon that learn Fake Out in champions and it could be Grimmsnarl too, so as not to stack up too much of a ground weakness
Who would you recommend I swap him for?
Should I run it with the moves fake out, parting shot and the screens?

that’s how it stands for now
Can go with that grim set it works well.
Only issue with screens in tr is you waste turns setting it up.
I would put tr on your sini instead of protect to re setup tr when it does down mid battle.
Also worth noting you have no tr friendly mega on this team.
Your putting more support on skele then staraptor 😂
I understand, thank you for the comments. Would it be better then to focus it on a tr team? also placing a mega favorable for tr
I would. I usually prefer to go all on on tr when I play tr. Half tr can be quite hard to pilot.
Its okay to keep some fast mons for when tr isnt up but I would lean in on tr
You do need to
It's a nice bonus but it's not needed
Some teams throw in giraffe just because they don't have fake out or protect
I think in something like this; I'm not sure yet how to round out the team. I tried looking for a Fighting-type or something that resists Dark, since I noticed a 3x weakness to Dark defensively, and offensively I don't hit Electric or Normal types for super-effective damage https://pokepast.es/fa70fc2c6c607484
yea?
Skeledirge is great, but it has a few weaknesses, especially basculegion, kingambit, garchomp and most recently glimmora
and incineroar of course
so we need a few answers against these pokémon
I will try and find a few answers in a bit, its easier to check on pc
I dont think you have to play it in Trickroom
You can add a trickroom mode, yes, but not hard tr
Skeledirges biggest strenght is its matchup against mega raptor, as far as I know
Good mega raptor teams always bring a strong rock type Pokémon
so we have to cover
water types (bascu, pelipper, swampert)
garchomp/ttar
incin, bascu, kingambit
and glimmora/hisuian arcanine
I'm not at my PC right now either; I could check later and see how to put it together based on your recommendations. So, you'd suggest looking for an option that isn't necessarily a TR to use for this? Thanks. And one question: could I get it working with some kind of weather team?
I'm thinking of either snow or sandstorm, rain is straight up increasing your weaknesses and sun boosts your fire type moves, but also gives venusaur double the speed with chlorophyll, and its very often played with helping hand lifeorb earth power
I found this snow team online and was testing it out, but it really struggled against Ground types, and I think it could use a different moveset.

I was thinking about a Pokémon that could cover its Ground weakness, and I settled on Basculegion. For its Dark weakness, I chose Sneasler because I see Kingambit as the format's main threat. As for its Water weakness, Sinistcha was the first thing that came to mind, but that would have made my team 3x weak to Ghost-types, so I tried looking for another option maybe a Mega? I considered Venusaur, and while searching, I came across Sceptile.
However, I'm still wondering: if I play with fast Pokémon, would I have to invest some Speed EVs into Skeledirge right?
Should I include a Pokémon that can set up Tailwind, plus another with average speed to help balance things out and cover the remaining types?
how is that struggling with ground types
i mean yeah 3 ground weakness but also 3 ground counters
and A9 outspeeds oneshots garchomp
Maybe positioning?
Nothing else comes to mind
