VGC Team Building: Refining Trick Room Teams for Tournaments

Summary

At Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments, members are actively refining competitive teams for upcoming tournaments. This discussion focuses on optimizing a dual Mega Trick Room team, specifically addressing weaknesses against Pelipper, weather control, and screen-heavy Archaludon builds. The community provides expert feedback on item choices like Life Orb versus Focus Sash and strategic pivots to improve performance in best-of-three formats.

eagergrove-31 OP

I’m entering my first tournament soon and I’m looking to make any necessary adjustments to the team. This is a dual mega team with both venu and steelix functioning inside of trickroom. The team has a ton of bulk which is nice because I don’t always have to rely on getting tr set up.
The team has gotten me to mb1 but there are some weaknesses. Most of my team struggle into pelipper if I do not have weather control. This is normally fine against pure rain teams as getting my weather isn’t too difficult; however, against the new sun rain teams it’s hard to keep tyranitar alive who is my main answer for peli.
Another problem is archaludon with screens set up. I can one or two shot arch without them but he becomes a pain with them.
The team does also have a problem with shared type weaknesses so if you have any suggestions about that let me know please.

cleverinbox-49

Do wonder if you have found steelix fine cuz I did consider using base steelix with life orb sheer force cuz it has wide gaurd

cleverinbox-49

But regardless

cleverinbox-49

I'll say that type wise it aint rly that bad

cleverinbox-49

Against screens archaladon I actually use curse sinistcha which can rly nicely beat it

@cleverinbox-49 Against screens archaladon I actually use curse sinistcha which can rly nicely beat it
cleverinbox-49

Not sure if it will work in bo3 but it aint that gimmicky so maybe

quickjester-17

To easy to predict around and pivot to make you waste that move. Why not sash

quickjester-17

Unless it has a specific job

@quickjester-17 To easy to predict around and pivot to make you waste that move. Why not sash

happykitten-50

Nah because I want to fake out and THEN kill myself

happykitten-50

I don't even play trick room any more haha

cleverinbox-49

I do not think they should have removed parting shot from scrafty

cleverinbox-49

Would have given it some more use in hard tr

happykitten-50

Scrafty is still good I think but definitely a secondary mega yeah
