Garchomp & Golisopod VGC Team Building Guide

Summary

In the Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments server, members are actively refining a Garchomp and Golisopod core. This discussion covers essential VGC strategy, including the importance of Protect, optimizing stats, and integrating rain synergy with partners like Archaludon. It is a valuable resource for players looking to improve their competitive team compositions and understand complex defensive and offensive synergies.

I'm pretty sure this trio is good. Chomp and Pod cover each other defensively (Garchomp resists fire, Pod resists ice and dragon) and offensively (Chomp quite effectively handles other Pods and other fire types while my Pod handles the ice types and fairy types Chomp) hates. Farig is also a good support for both as it provides protection from fake out/priority in general, helping hand and trick room for Pod)

I'm just really stuck on the other pokemon, I've tried a bunch of stuff but nothing feels right.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I think that trio IS nice but i dont like trick room so i dont have exprience with golisopod. I just wanted to say that you have 32 attack adamant and not 32 Spatk modest.

what the frigg??? why do u have 32 atk and not 32 sp. atk???

daringivory-57 OP

Just realised, lol. I was using an auto build thing on this website called Pokesynergy. I guess they must have used that as the default for some reason

merrypanther-88

ok first think is drop flamethrower in favor for earth power, because pelipper really likes to be paired with golisopod and rain would greatly hurt garchomp's flamethower and then earth power can cover for pelipper's electric weakness. It also covers poison and just has really good offensive synergy with power gem.

Since I have rain now, should I lean more into the rain aspect? (Arch, Basc, etc)

@daringivory-57 Since I have rain now, should I lean more into the rain aspect? (Arch, Basc, etc)
merrypanther-88

probably one of those. Depends on which u like

merrypanther-88

Arch gives u an answer to fairies tho so probably better

merrypanther-88

the lack of protect on this team worries me (garchomp)

merrypanther-88

I really do not like flamethrower on the land shark. IMO protect is more valuable

merrypanther-88

what's even the point of flamethrower btw?

merrypanther-88

yeah but like it'll have rain

merrypanther-88

at max sp. atk and boosting nature flamethrower doesn't ever OHKO in rain unless u crit.

merrypanther-88

and then all the other types fire hits for supereffective damage are covered by earth power and pelipper's hurricane

merrypanther-88

as happens with every team

merrypanther-88

takes a while to get it quite right

merrypanther-88

fr

merrypanther-88

hey that's a sign ur getting better at teambuilding

merrypanther-88

yea

merrypanther-88

although it's very rare cause base chomp has poor sp. atk

merrypanther-88

a mere 80

daringivory-57 OP

Could you send the stat spreads for the team too?

daringivory-57 OP

Thank youuuu

merrypanther-88

what the fri-

merrypanther-88

why is chomps' HP 12?

merrypanther-88

and his sp. def 4?

merrypanther-88

is there some attack he has been trained to specifically survive?

merrypanther-88

yeah??? if there's not a reason to not do that then yes

daringivory-57 OP

Just as a recommendation you might wanna lower peli’s by one just so if it gets super fanged sitrus still activates (niche but still could be handy

merrypanther-88

that's not a good enough reason lol

merrypanther-88

What the frick is that archaludon doing

merrypanther-88

did you mean to put all that into sp. def?

merrypanther-88

ok for arch do max sp. atk max hp with the remaining points going into sp. def

merrypanther-88

No??? at least I don't think so

merrypanther-88

I've always built my archs as max sp. atk max HP

merrypanther-88

although I could be wrong

merrypanther-88

if that's the meta go for it

merrypanther-88

but at the very least I'd have 10 points into his sp. atk

merrypanther-88

everything else looks fine

merrypanther-88

except pelliper, again, max sp. atk. the rest into sp. def and give it a sp. atk boosting nature

merrypanther-88

why tank hits when you can just delete the opposing pokemon?

daringivory-57 OP

If you wanna do a more setup pod you could maybe swap farig for indeedee just so you can still get trick room while also having follow me to give pod more chances to set up. Farig could still be good tho, you might wanna use rilla more often tho to give yourself more safe setup chances

daringivory-57 OP

Yeah fair tbh. farig is bulkier too
