Guess who's back :hllyeah: it's me (I like team building) this time with a sceptile team that I'll run yall through

SCEPTILE AND ROTOM
So to start we've got the standard sceptile duo with Mega Sceptile and Rotom (heat this time but I'm open to suggestions to change). I started building with Sceptile because I'm tired of swampert rain teams, and discharge + earth power OHKO's bulky archaludons as well. The First problem I ran into is simple: swift swim swampert out speeds the fastest sceptile in the rain, which is a problem since the average swampert runs Ice Punch as a coverage move

ALTARIA
I was struggling with the swift swim issue and came up with a few hairbrained solutions. my first idea was adding torkoal and a TR mode but I didn't like the way it was shaping the team, the second was replacing thunderbolt on rotom with sunny day, but that felt stupid af since it would force me to hard pivot off rip. and then I remembered Cloud Nine exists, and that's why altaria is here. I've made it bulky and gave it perish song + roost for late game finishes, since I don't intend to use it for damage, it's there just to shut down weather

AERO
the dino is here just for tailwind and wide guard support honestly, I feel like the speed control is needed for the team's second mode. also funny rock slide flinch.

TAUROS
The Bull! Okay this might take some explaining, But I really love the paldean tauros forms in this format, specifically aqua breed. I wanted intimidate but didn't want to add incin since I really didn't want more rock weaknesses. But Tauros fucking rules; water/fighting is good typing, it's got intimidate as well, a signature move that breaks screens, access to aqua jet for priority and mental herb allows it to keep it's good physical bulk even after a close combat, it's here as a late game sweeper and Intimidate pivot mon

METAGROSS
while building I noticed the team has a lot of weaknesses to rock, ice, and fairy. so... yeah Steel Type 👍 Jokes aside Mega-gross is a good addition to any team really as long as you give it the right supporting tools, and I believe tauros and aero provide those tools rather well. originally the team had altaria as it's mega, but that didnt' help with any weaknesses really (except turning rock to neutral) plus mega evolving removes Cloud Nine which is like the whole point of having altaria. so with the need for a steel type, metagross just made sense to have as the secondary mega imo

THE GLARING WEAKNESS
the team really doesn't like Yard. sceptile isn't weak to fire, but that doesn't mean it wants to take Yard weather ball. the current Yard gameplan is just lead aero and rotom and try to obliterate it before it can move

I had made the exact same team concept last season on champions. I used a rotom wash for the better defensive typing against rain teams and a yache berry torterra to live swampert ice punch and kill. Although, i do like your altaria idea, ive thought about that but just didnt know the best way to implement it. The rest of my team was greninja, blaziken and mega skarmory. Greninja and mega skarmory were my zard Y counter cause it outspeeds and kills with rock slide

oke so i see the vision i guess but i think you're solving problems with other problems here
Altaria is cool but doubling down on a 4x weakness plus a rock slide weakness on a mon that doesn't really aim to do anything besides neutralizing weather is kinda a waste of a team slot

i would suggest something like Sableye with quash
since your main problem doesn't seem to be the weather itself but speed
this gives you flexible support options too with screens
Fake out
counter weather and quash let's you spec into more bulk because i just don't understand why giga drain is here for lol

Yeah I agree altaria doesn't work, if i were to continue using the team it's gotta go. I like sableye, and I love quash, it's a very good idea, but I think the biggest problem of the team is that the two main leads offer zero speed control. Giga drain is there just for sustainability and I figured after a lightning rod boost it'd be as good as energy ball in terms of damage

I think I'm just going to shelf the mega sceptile idea for now however as I believe you're right that it causes more problems than it solves

I've decided I'm going to focus more on improving my actual battling ability and try to improve my knowledge of vgc by using teams that are proben to work since honestly that's where I need the most improvement, if I can't succeed with good teams there's no way in hell I'll succeed with teams I made myself

tidycomet-49

Yeah it's always fun to come up with out of pocket ideas but you need to build good fundamentals first to actually succeed with it
i ran scarf trick starmie last season and won 3 games with such a hard difficulty and lost 2 games in like 3 turns lmao

azurecanyon-43 OP

That's hilarious tho

tidycomet-49

yeee it was funny
it was also made to take care of garchomp with ice beam
Scald for support
positioning with flip turn
and trick for trick rooms

azurecanyon-43 OP

Trick for trick rooms is fun

azurecanyon-43 OP

Typically my TR counter is taunt on a non-prankster pokémon since nobody runs mental herb

azurecanyon-43 OP

Typically incin

azurecanyon-43 OP

And then with gambit in the back, TR isn't the worst to fight in honestly
