How to Counter Archaludon in Pokémon VGC | Team Building Hel

Summary

In the Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments server, members are actively discussing strategies to counter Archaludon in competitive play. This thread explores team optimization, including the use of bulk investment on key attackers and the tactical trade-offs between different terrain setters. It highlights the importance of positioning and switching games to handle rain-based threats effectively in the current VGC meta.

oliveforest-60 OP

It’s the Bridge. It’s always the bridge. Maybe I’m just miss playing but rain teams just give me problems, most specifically Archuladon. When I can get into a position to double it easily then I can get it down, it’s just usually at the cost of losing a Pokémon.

Any help would be great, I am almost done at work and I can answer questions then

Give me moment to get back home

solarivory-89

My team is very weak against arch, usually try to look for a HH + sneasler CC

solarivory-89

otherwise I chip it down and let a special attacker take care of it in the endgame

i like the idea of using corv in other terrains but the thing what made it so good on the baltimore team was the spdef boost, grassy seed is just really mediocre

jollyturtle-55

ychu should also smoke arch

@jollyturtle-55 ychu should also smoke arch
solarivory-89

kinda assumed it would live a focus blast but its a guaranteed ohko unless its heavily bulk invested

@jollyturtle-55 ychu should also smoke arch
oliveforest-60 OP

I guess that’s where my poor positioning comes into play. Or bad luck in getting to the end game with Ychu alive

what if you leave ychu for endgame rather than leading with it

solarivory-89

incase opp runs arch

@solarivory-89 what if you leave ychu for endgame rather than leading with it
jollyturtle-55

I think the best thing is the middle ground of just playing a good switching game

Also; HP investment wouldnt hurt the rat

@jollyturtle-55 Also; HP investment wouldnt hurt the rat
oliveforest-60 OP

I do need to give the rat more bulk. I do know that much.

I could swap out Rilla for Indeedee and get Incin in for something else for Fake out pressure maybe?

jollyturtle-55

fake out pressure and indeedee in the same sentence /hj

jollyturtle-55

uhhh

jollyturtle-55

what idea are you after mostly is it corviknight specifically or just like the idea of a seed sweeper

@jollyturtle-55 fake out pressure and indeedee in the same sentence /hj
solarivory-89

if you dont bring both at the same time 😬

solarivory-89

definitely not ideal

solarivory-89

if your goal is to play around corviknight you dont really need intimidate right

solarivory-89

so rilla fake out should be good enough

@solarivory-89 if your goal is to play around corviknight you dont really need intimidate right
jollyturtle-55

not fully correct, especially at the start youre prone to double ups on the phys side

jollyturtle-55

if you want to run a corviknighht idea you definetly want indeedee, if you want a seed sweeper you could make that volcarona gseed qd thats a pretty popular idea rn

@jollyturtle-55 not fully correct, especially at the start youre prone to double ups on the phys side
solarivory-89

assuming psychic seed + indeedee being in, you can follow me

jollyturtle-55

psych seed does nothing for double ups on the phys side lol but yea it gets a lot more complicated in practice

oliveforest-60 OP

Mostly Corvaknight in general. I just liked the idea behind the build of the Baltimore team. But if that isn’t going to work then I just want to keep the bird, I don’t mind changing moves and stuff around on it.

jollyturtle-55

baltimore team bird worked the way it did cuz of the psyseed boost + the sand duo, one for chip but also cuz excas ground + tars rock take care of the electric and fire types that hurt you

jollyturtle-55

you could go for a more supportive bird with tailwind brave bird body press and like idk still bulk up or roost or something

jollyturtle-55

and then make the volc grassy seed qd

@jollyturtle-55 fake out pressure and indeedee in the same sentence /hj
smartgrove-78

If you dont run fakeout indeedee youre lwk trolling no?
