Summary
Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments presents a deep dive into a specialized Sun and Rain team featuring Choice Scarf Archaludon and Charizard Y. This guide breaks down specific EV spreads, move choices like Weather Ball and Hurricane, and tactical synergy with Mega Golisopod and Rillaboom. It is an essential read for competitive players looking to optimize their VGC builds without relying on Tailwind or Trick Room.
Hey guys I’m creating a fun choice scarf Archaludon team with Charizard Y, Pelipper, Mega Golisopod as a second mega, Rillaboom and Incineroar.
Every calculation has been done with full investment and nature for the opposing Pokemon even though some of them are unlikely to be running full bulk and etc.
I do not play with Tailwind or Trick Room at all in any of my teams and don’t play with screens unless I use Aurora Veil since it’s a 1 turn move rather than wasting 2 turns on screens
Starting off with Charizard Y, I chose weather ball over heat wave because in case of H. Arcanine matchup rain weather ball from Zard just OHKO full bulk investment HA, and the speed investment has been made for that matchup specifically to outspeed full speed and nature by 1, especially because head smash from HA just OHKO my Zard. I use Hurricane especially because in rain I OHKO full bulk + psychic seed Sneasler. Helping Hand to support Solar Beam scarf Archaludon and then Protect.
Archaludon, speed investment with Scarf outspeeds anything below 150 base speed full investment and obviously some higher speed scarf Pokemon like a base Garchomp unfortunately I won’t be able to outspeed but I can control the damage taken with grassy terrain from EQ and other ground moves. Solar Beam with grassy terrain or helping hand OHKOs Mega Swampert and Electro Shot with the +1 OHKOs Basculegion both with full bulk investment, also my speed investment on Archaludon outspeeds scarfed Basculegion without Swift Swim. Flash cannon pretty straightforward it only 2HKOs fairy types since they are all so SpD bulky naturally so there’s nothing I can do about that even with Helping Hand. I’m unsure between Dragon Pulse and Draco Meteor, but I’m leaning more towards Pulse since being locked with scarf I wouldn’t want to receive consecutive -2 SpAs😅😅.

Pelipper since I have Sash on it I just went full speed and SpA without really doing any calcs. Muddy Water for the occasional accuracy drops is nice and I’d rather spread dmg in case later on in a match I cannot get a Helping Hand off to OHKO certain pokemon. Wide Guard for spread cover
Mega Golisopod with Sucker Punch instead of Swords Dance to 2HKO Gholdengo full bulk. HP investment to guarantee 2HKO heat waves and flamethrower from Zard, Zhomp and MDnite in rain. Full Atk investment to OHKO full bulk Sylveon and any Fairy in general with Iron Head without Helping Hand
Rillaboom with Life Orb grassy glide to OHKO Basculegion without Helping Hand, U-Turn for Intimidate or Weather Control cycles, unsure on High Horsepower or Hammer Arm/Drain Punch, Knock Off could also be a possibility but I’d rather the other ones for some sort of Archaludon matchups and then Fake Out
Incineroar Passho Berry with that bulk investment to outlive Rain weather Wave Crash Adaptability and Life Orb Basculegion to then OHKO it with Darkest Lariat without bulk investment or with Helping Hand if bulk invested. Flare Blitz I haven’t checked calcs like that but pretty sure does a good chunk of dmg to Kingambits, Rillaboom etc. especially in Sun weather and then Fake Out Parting Shot.
Lmk if there’s something that I’ve overlooked or if some things would be better for my team in terms of stats, items, movesets and Pokemon. I definitely want to keep the Archaludon Scarfed since I think it would be really fun to use. Also lmk if there’s any specific matchups I should look out for
So sorry for the really really long Team Dump😂😂😅😅
agree with dragon pulse over draco meteor. maybe you can put 1-2 bulk stats into speed on golisopod so you outspeed a mirror match up
Oh yh I didn’t think of that for Golisopod thanks
npnp
will mean you basically lose under trick room though
do you have a plan against that?
Kind of just going with Golisopod Incineroar, Rillaboom and Pelipper or Zard to support with Helping Hand and maybe dmg against opposing Golisopods or Mawile in trick room
Pelipper would be for Torkoal trick room matchups
Hard trick room might be a hussle and just a matchup that I wouldn’t be able to win easily
you could put taunt on incineroar
idk what move you would drop though
Flare blitz maybe? And then deal with steel type with just Zard maybe
you kinda have both incin and rilla boom do the same with fake out and pivots so maybe you can swap that around
means you cant really bring golisopod into steel types though 🤔
Maybe drop the fake out on Incineroar then? Parting shot seems a bit too good to drop
With teams like these I think pivoting into weather control is better than disrupting maybe?
Maybe try out the team the way it is right now, if you find yourself bringing incin and rilla to the same games, you can drop fake out on either one
maybe preferably on rilla so you can swap in and overwrite psychic terrain to fake out with incin
idk
Yhh I’ll definitely starts doing some testing but yh I need to come up with something for trick room matchup
I also saw that Rillaboom gets taunt
Could that be an option and then drop the fake out and speed investment that I put on him just to have a better fakeout priority than other Rilla and Incin
And I could just go into SpD bulk
The thing is I hate playing with trickroom and tailwind like unless I have slow pokemon in my team that can counter my opponents trickroom than cool but apart from that I don’t mess with the whole trickroom/tailwind gameplay
hey everyone, I’ve done quite a few games of testing I’d say with this team and things have been doing pretty well, the only mon that has been giving me sort of problems is rock slide Sneasler since it does tons of damage to both my Zard and Pelipper and then CC on Archaludon. I’ve also been preferring Draco meteor, fast burst dmg in a moment where maybe weather isn’t ideal during that specific turn and then quick switch or if I have him with Rillaboom I can go hard switch Archaludon into Pelipper or Zard and then U-turn back to Archaludon
Raichu matchups I have been doing pretty well with Golisopod Pelipper Lead
And then obviously psyspam and such also Golisopod comes in play rather than ZardY
I just haven’t found any right time to bring Incineroar over Rillaboom tbh
Like intimidate fake out could be nice if I full send ZardY Archaludon, Rilla and Incin but that has only happened once in 50 games
This is the updated team

Few changes on Incin stats and Taunt instead High horsepower on Rilla
you should replace incin with something that patches up matchups
maybe try farigiraf with trick room and twin beam
I was thinking Farigiraf with nasty plot/calm mind, twin beam/expanding force to counter use opponents psychic terrain, hyper voice and protect
Unfortunately I don’t like using tailwind and trick room I find them so tekky
it gives you an option if your opponent sets up tailwind
expanding force works
deals with your sneasler isseys
issues
Hear this out
Physical Wyrdeer
Intimidate support
it works
With Lunge and Psyshield bash to decrease their atk and increase my def
And facade protect
test it out!!
I’ll get right on it!
Also do you think this team would work in Bo3 opened team sheets

Why tf is there a wyrdeer
Incineroar wasn’t working well
And it ohko’s plus intimidate Sneasler which was a problem for the team
